Shikigami 2 PS2 - differences from DC version?

Post by neojma »

I have the DC Shikigami no Shiro 2, and I'm wondering if it might be worthwhile for me to get the PS2 port. Are there any extra features, port quality differences, included superplays, etc.? Can't remember all the discussion from back when it was released, and my search of the forums didn't turn up any info.

I'm not interested in the US Castle Shikigami release - I'd like to play on my Japanese PS2 hooked up to my TATE monitor. That's part of the reason I'm considering the PS2 port - the system is set up perfectly for shmups and I like my PS2 Saturn pad.

I have the US release, and to be honest with you I haven't really played it that much since I'm just not a huge fan of the series, so there may be unlockables I'm missing, but IIRC the only real difference is there is a wait (slowdown) on/off option that is not present in the DC version.

Unless you get the LE PS2 version with the figure, the only difference, atleast that I know of, is the ability to toggle the slowdown on or off (and the actual "quality" of the slowdown). There's also an internet scoreboard but I'm not sure if the DC has one or not.
Feedback will set you free.

If you have a Gamecube or Jap XBOX, those versions are probably best. At any rate, the GC version looks much better in tate than the PS2 version.

Well, for the PS2 Japanese version, you got progressive scan support?!?!

This is the one and only one PS2 shmups got this support. But people said the game got less slowdown than the acrade version even with Wait ON.

For the the DC version, you got a SoundTrack if you go for the LE version. IIRC, the acrade version is run on Naomi hardware, so the DC version is as close as acrade perfect. DC version support VGA mode.

My conclusion is you should acquire the PS2 version if you want the progress scan support, and don't want to purchase an encoder to convert VGA into TV's Porgressive Scan singal.
