The Vanishing (1988) - Rex and Saskia, a young couple in love, are on vacation. They stop at a busy service station and Saskia is abducted. After three years and no sign of Saskia, Rex begins receiving letters from the abductor.
don't read about the ending and don't even bother with the '93 remake. hollywood took a giant shit on it and butchered the concept of the film in the process.

Have a soft-spot for mainstream offerings Arlington road and Pacific Heights, also another shout for Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer.
Shane Meadows' Dead Man's Shoes is also great.

Heavenly Creatures came to mind when I saw the thread title. Haven't seen it in nearly 20 years, clearly it left an impression. It's also interesting to note that movie as a springboard for Kate Winslet and Peter Jackson's careers as well.

I don't really know what counts as a dark psychological movie. I guess it's a mix of thriller/horror? In that case I'd recommend these:

A Tale of Two Sisters (2003) - Best horror movie ever made.
Confessions (2010) - Revenge thriller.
I Saw the Devil (2010) - Serial killer thriller.
Strange Circus (2005) - Horror/mystery from Sion Sono.
Kotoko (2011) - I might be the only one who thinks this, but Kotoko is the best Shin'ya Tsukamoto film I've seen. Either this or Silenced is the best movie of 2011 imo.
The Man Who Stole the Sun (1979) - Crime/thriller about a school teacher who decides to build an atomic bomb. More nihilistic than dark, but an awesome movie nonetheless.
Mother (2009)
The Chaser (2008)
Keiho (1999)
Han Gong-ju (2014)
Pieta (2012)
New World (2013) - Crime/thriller about cops and gangsters. One of the best films of this type in ages.
The Bad Sleep Well (1960)
Guilty of Romance (2011)
Montage (2013)
Suspect X (2008)
Cold Fish (2010)
Perfect Blue (1997)

That's everything I have rated 4-stars and up on my letterboxd page. Some of them might not be what you're looking for, but at least they're all great movies. And they're all Asian films by the way since that's pretty much all I watch.
