Bloodstained RotN : Kouji IGA's new "Castlevania" game.

58% of what the Ouya kickblasted.
Pretty good effort there.

They have at least 180k in Paypal pledges too, 5.5 might even happen.

Could it be the cultural divide you're seeing, in part?Necronopticous wrote:Is it just me or does he really give off a strangely inexperienced/passive vibe? I thought the same thing when I watched his appearance on that 8 hour twitch stream and listened to him answering questions but I thought maybe that was just because he was so out of his element and alienated there. Here, I'm not so sure. Maybe I'm overthinking it, but I have worked with lots of project managers in my professional life and I just can't help but feel that if I were the developer in that video I'd be thinking "does this guy even know what he wants, or why he wants it?"BulletMagnet wrote:Short video of Iga testing some stuff for the game and chatting with (I assume) one of the other staffers.
I think Iga is smart and experienced enough to know what he wants, but I think he also knows that the community can be two-faced, praising him one minute and then throwing firebombs and creating controversies the next. (JUSTICE 4 SONIA BELMONT)

Re: Kouji IGA's new "Castlevania" game
Yeah, definitely could be. I don't really doubt Igarashi--I pledged for Bloodstained with no hesitation. His demeanor just kind of took me by surprise, and I was really surprised at how he answered a lot of questions about development choices in his career during that 8 hour Twitch stream he did, especially during the Shadow Complex segment. Anyway, I have very high hopes for this game, and it's really cool to see the community band together and throw so much money and support at a game concept/genre like this. Someone tell IKD to get on Kickstarter.
Re: Kouji IGA's new "Castlevania" game
Yes, because the producer of a couple games in a super niche genre is obviously going to be met with similar success to the producer of one of the most praised and known games in the history of gaming.

It was a joke.
Re: Kouji IGA's new "Castlevania" game
Didn't sound like one :V but w/e. Good luck to IGA on reaching the final goal, and I hope the 'classic' mode is good.

5.5 is busted. Also unlocked the 'Miriam Pure' costume in the achievements thing they've been doing.

Finally pulled the trigger on this. Can't hurt, right?
Now, the waiting game.

I hope the mode is, at the least, super combat-centric, a la the Cave in Order of Ecclesia, with better stage layouts.trap15 wrote:Didn't sound like one :V but w/e. Good luck to IGA on reaching the final goal, and I hope the 'classic' mode is good.
Combat just needs to be better than OoE's spam Falcis+Nitesco until everything is dead (I love Ecclesia though).
I too am a sucker and went for the physical/GOG option.

Re: Kouji IGA's new "Castlevania" game
I put in for the boxed game because it sounds great. I honestly don't care how much they've made (or costs to develop), I really just want the solid Symphony of the Night style thing it seemed like it would be. I hope all the stretch goal promises and extra modes interfere with making the basic game excellent.
Made a giant arcade-adventure: Pig Eat Ball. Also made shmup with multi-ships: Shoot 1UP DX, Gunstacking game: Serious Sam Double D XXL, and more shooters.

Footage from E3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5CuDs87MkQ
Looks great so far. Like the polar opposite of Mighty Number 9.
(the topic title could use an update with the name of the game)

I haven't been following up on this, I try not to jump on the hype-train before something hits store shelves (when I can stop myself LOL)....but that E3 footage looks pretty good!
Re: Kouji IGA's new "Castlevania" game
I've never really been into the metroidvania games despite loving classic Metroid and classic castlevania. not really sure why. I am however, really looking forward to the upcoming game Ghost Song.

That gameplay looks fucking rad.

I just hope they don't end up spending 90% of their budget on the first 10% of the game

Re: Kouji IGA's new "Castlevania" game
Looks good overall, but the character animation is weirdly too slow for the action or something, it's really disorienting to me for some reason.
Re: Kouji IGA's new "Castlevania" game
Feels like a continuation of Ecclesia, which is a great thing.
Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.
Re: Kouji IGA's new "Castlevania" game
I felt this same way. Watching romscout cancel dashes into each other looked really jarring. I mean, I suppose the animations were really slow in most IGA games, but they feel a bit more odd here for some reason.Necronopticous wrote:Looks good overall, but the character animation is weirdly too slow for the action or something, it's really disorienting to me for some reason.
That aside, it looks really really good. Was very pleasantly surprised at how visually pleasant it is.

I also feel the same regarding the character's jog cycle animation (drop-down animation is also a bit floaty). I even commented on it on the "Development update 3" video.Necronopticous wrote:Looks good overall, but the character animation is weirdly too slow for the action or something, it's really disorienting to me for some reason.
That said, every thing else so far pleases me, so count me in as a happy camper.

For the run animation, they're trying to go for the same feeling as SOTN. In fact, all their animations seem to be loosely based off SOTN's feel and speeds. Even the attacks are very similar.
I'm not sure it translates well to 3D, but (as an animator of 17 years) I would have put more weight and bounce into her run.

Re: Kouji IGA's new "Castlevania" game
I dunno, somehow I can't share the excitement (yet). Visually I think it just looks like an HD update to Rondo of Blood's PSP 3D disimprovement. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I agree with you
I think it lacks character too. A bit bland, could stand to exude more badassery. Or at least some personnality. It's robot-ish right now.
