Wavy Picture with XRGB Mini

Post by Chrescendo »

Hi,

So about a month ago I had my SNES Jr. modded for RGB by RetroFixes. I bought my SNES CSYNC SCART cables from Retro Gaming Cables and my XRGB SCART adapter from Retro Console Accessories on Ebay.

Once I got my SNES back from RetroFixes, I discovered this problem... Image

The wavy image is static, but there's also a wave that runs vertical from top to bottom. I also experience some screen shaking occasionally as well.

I have talked with RetroFixes and MyLifeInGaming and both of them have said they've never seen an issue like this before. I sent my SNES and the cables I use back to RetroFixes so he could test on his PVM, and he said it ran perfectly for him, which leads me to believe it's my XRGB Mini.

I've tested all of the other inputs on the XRGB Mini and they all work just fine. I've adjusted every single setting on the XRGB Mini and nothing helps.

It's been a month and I just want to get to the bottom of this problem. It's all been very frustrating. If anyone has ever seen an issue like this and how to fix it, PLEASE let me know.

I can't see the image but it sounds 210% like a sync issue. Test av out to confirm.
I have heard what you describe before and it ended up being that the person bought the wrong cable.

I think they were using a cable meant for the full sized SNES which apparently was not compatible with the SNES mini RGB mod.

Anyway I'll tell you what I told them. Buy a "Super Nintendo SNES/RGB N64" cable from an ebayer retro_console_accessories
and specifically ask for C-sync.

I know she is on this site sometimes perhaps she could elaborate on what causes the issue ?

The other possibility may be C-sync bridging to another pin/test point but I don't know how likely that is.

Please let us know the results of testing AV.

Had the very exact same issue. Not sure why it happens with the XRGB. It's caused by the XRGB not terminating the sync line. Putting a 75 to ground in my SCART to MINI-DIN 8 adapter fixed this.

It's the exact problem I had. You can see it in earthbound as well on the naming screens, the borders of the windows will be wavy.

What was even more odd is it only occured when I used the passive outputs from my RGB monitor, if I ran it straight to the XRGB it worked fine.

I've tested all other inputs and outputs and they all work perfectly. All of my cables are wired for CSYNC. I've actually talked with retro_console_accessories and she said everything I have should work just fine with this specific mod.
