Stunfest 2016 - STG Stream Details (20-22 May)

Post by Icarus »

I'll assume that everyone here knows a little about Stunfest, the huge fighting game tournament that runs for a weekend in Rennes, France. This will be the 12th edition of the tournament. The reason why this is important as, for the past three years, Wasshoi! has been a big feature of the event, with STG demonstrations from top players around the world - last year, we had several of our own on the main stage. This year, there'll be three major Chinese players in attendance, of which you'll know them from their occasional posts on this forum.

As with previous years, they'll be broadcasting the STG demonstrations live and direct, but while the STGWeekly guys did it last year (and did a great job), this year, they've invited me to front up their official English language stream on Dailymotion, whom they're partners with. I'll have one or two guest commentators alongside me, so it should be funtimes all around.

Public stream URL: http://games.dailymotion.com/3hitcombo/x48q1e4
--> VODs: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... PdiP0W42rV

The complete schedule (if you're interested in the fighting games stuff too), you can find here: http://www.stunfest.fr/programmation/grandescene/
The abridged shooting game schedule is below.

ALL TIMES IN UTC+2

Friday:
• 13:00 - Strikers 1945 - Player: WC
• 16:00 - Dariusburst Another Chronicle EX - Player: DKA

• 12:00 - Dodonpachi Saidaioujou AC (Expert Mode) - Player: WC
See you guys in the stream! ^_^

Player introductions!

Quoting Prometheus in the Stunfest 2016 meetup thread:
PROMETHEUS wrote:hey guys :]

here are presentations for the guests this year :] shmuppers from China!!

WC - 邱俊圣

"Hey there everybody at Stunfest, I’m Chinese shmup player, WC. I started shmupping in 1998 and quickly fell in love with the genre. Its unique charisma has not only brought me the fun of playing, but also many good friends. All who remain in the shmups circle still love taking on the genre everyday, and always will.

As a player in China, my shmup efforts mainly lie with CAVE and Psikyo titles. So I’m very honored to attend Stunfest and demonstrate Dodonpachi Saidaioujou Expert along with Strikers 1945 this year. Many thanks to the hospitable Stunfest staff for making this happen. See you guys in Rennes!"

WS - 漏伟杰

"Hi everyone, I’m WS, from Shanghai. The “W” comes where all Shanghai players share the same “W” in their name entry (no specific reason). I’ve played shmups for nearly 20 years, enjoying them since childhood. To me, shmups are a lot of fun and have a great feeling of achievement. Most shmups I played are from CAVE and Seibu/MOSS, therefore I’ll be demonstrating ESPGaluda 2 & Raiden IV Double Play for both games. I’m very happy to join you in this marvelous event and sincerely hope that our common faith can encourage more people and lead them to the way of the shmup. Let’s have fun!"

DKA - 周木真

"Hi! I'm DKA, a Chinese STG player. DKA is short for DKARUGA, or "Dark Ikaruga". When I was young wanted to use Ikaruga as my internet username, because it was an impressive game, but it had already been taken, so I added the 'D' for 'Dark' to represent the game's colour changing system. Later I joined China's largest STG group, and decided I needed a signature similar to some Japanese super STG players (like SWY, TAC or ISO) so I finally settled on DKA.

I am not good at dodging bullets, so something like Touhou is hard for me. Instead I consider scoring strategy over survival or a 1 coin clear, meaning I'm used to restarting games over and over again. Stage 1 of Crimzon Clover World Ignition is definitely a good example of a game where I perform many restarts to try to achieve an optimum stage 1 score, as well as Zone P of DBACEX with the Second Silver Hawk. Additionally I really enjoy STG music, particularly Radiant Silvergun, Battle Garegga, DBACEX and Raiden V. I hope one day I can form a small band to play this type of game music.

The last thing I want to express is that I feel very lucky to be invited to attend Stunfest, and to demonstrate Crimzon Clover World Ignition and DBACEX."

I'm going to be stuck (?) in South Africa this week, or I would totally be there. Can't wait to see all the superplayers do their thing!

Awesome, I've been wondering whether there would be an English-language stream!

Does DailyMotion save archives of past broadcasts? I doubt I'll be able to catch these live.

I was wondering too. Anyone interested in recording the stuff?

I'm looking forward to it! :)

Great game selection this year. (besides including Psikyo)

I'm looking forward to the Espgaluda II double play the most. I've never seen that done before, so I wonder how far that game can be pushed under unusual conditions like that. It'd be great if its systems can be manipulated enough to do something like the Futari God Mode counterstop.

I have been dreaming of seeing actual footage of Espgaluda II in dual play ever since Skykid mentioned seeing a chinese player doing it. I can't wait!

Thirded for Galuda2 double play . If I could guess, I expect to see the strat involved mostly relying on planting a character off to the side while controlling the other, than switching as needed. I imagine it kinda like how pro DJs scratch records going from one deck to the other.

It's the same guy! I don't think there are two people in the world crazy enough to attempt it.

Next time please ask why the Chinese haven't accepted Yagawa as their lord and savior.

You can do the translation (if you have time, I know you're busy!) and post it here.

Even with my limited Chinese I could hear a lot of stuff being left out.

I forget that the girl do not know some words of STG, I should have gone with her and do some help for translation

Yeah I'm hoping these can get on YT or something soon, doesn't appear to be a viewable archive on the dailymotion link at the moment.

45:00 for Icarus recounting the rush when we fought Great Thing back in Casino lol. So funny you mentioned that, it's exactly what I was thinking about while watching the GT fight!

DB at home is superb, but nothing beats the cab.

Being in a different timezone here I didn't see the stream for Galuda II double play, did anyone get a recording of it?

Thanks for that Zaa. I've downloaded it and upped it on my YT for later as I didn't record anything from Friday due to a number of lingering setup issues, and because I wasn't sure how my system would react to streaming and recording at the same time. It seemed like everything was okay for Saturday, though, as I have full recordings for both runs, and will record both runs today as well.
