Old topic, but has anyone had luck with a noise reduction mod on one of these bad boys? I just heaved one into my apartment and the fan has a ridiculous whine to it. I'm still astonished by the sheer girth of this behemoth.

Same, I know this is an old thread and before even reading this I had planned to possibly to some type of fan mod. I have some ideas but I would need to do an insane amount of research to see if it would work. Also did anyone find out about the remote control for this?

Can't you just replace it with a quiet silenx pc fan?Dragon89o wrote:Same, I know this is an old thread and before even reading this I had planned to possibly to some type of fan mod. Yeah that's what i had in mine with my NEC monitor. Shouldn't be too difficult to do, just get silent pc fans of the same size and it should be good. I have just been a little lazy with mine since i don't want to open up my monitor. Probably would be a good idea to do.

I have a Mitsubishi Leonardo, and when a friend installed silent fans to replace the originals the thing refused to turn on for more than ten seconds. It displayed a "FAN SPEED ERROR" message or something similar and shut itself down. The specs of the new fans matched the old ones.

If the fans are connected with two wires, you're good to go to install whatever silent fans you have. If it's it three wires, you might have issues.
Silent fans have lower RPM and when it doesn't match whatever it is originally supposed to be, it can trigger a fail safe.

ive never seen one before, Fudoh. Apparently they used to have them on display at several retail electronics stores in the early 90s, but very few were ever sold because they cost $49,000 US new.
id love to see someone find one and set it up with some consoles.

A display that costs as much as a small house (adjusting for inflation I'd say that was about right), no wonder they didn't sell many.

43" is the largest 4:3 size I have ever read about, but it's the first ime I'm seeing one in picture (that Sony).

Actually, I think the Sony KX-45ED1 is the largest CRT in existence.

Re: Mitsubishi Megaview Pro 42 (AM-4201R) manual/remote mode
Holy! 42 to 45 inch CRTs?
And I thought my NEC(35" visible) and my consumer Sony(36" visible) were massive!
Personnally I don't think I will ever go larger than 36".
Heck, for most gamers, 27" is the biggest size they will consider.
But it's gotta be said : playing fighting games with your buddies, sitting on the couch 8 feet away from the screen, with (still) big character sprites(even at that distance); with that wonderful CRT glow and the rich, clean and crisp picture of a professional tube; and with NO lag... it's a divine experience
it is fighting game nirvana... ^_^

The KX-45ED1 was supposed to get a US release but so far I've never seen it outside of Japan. On the other hand I cannot find any info of it having more than composite and S-Video inputs, which is a shame.
In Swedish, CRTs are usually called "Tjock-TV" (simply translated to "Fat TV") and these big ones are certainly fat...

Re: Mitsubishi Megaview Pro 42 (AM-4201R) manual/remote mode
Well I didn't know about the 43' or 45' prior to this thread. Made me slightly disapointed that I don't own the largest CRT ever made. Before I thought the Mitsubishi was the largest. Back on topic though does anyone know where I can find the remote for the Mitsubishi AM-4201R and manual? Maybe somewhere still around that services the Mitsubishi megaview line?
Did he find any type of solution? They were the same in size, rpms, and power requirements?LEGENOARYNINLIA wrote:I have a Mitsubishi Leonardo, and when a friend installed silent fans to replace the originals the thing refused to turn on for more than ten seconds. Well the story is Mitsubishi actually made a few 61" that weighed over 750lbs (340kg) that were kind of unstable/dangerous.Dragon89o wrote:Well I didn't know about the 43' or 45' prior to this thread. I've read rumors about even larger up to 110" prototypes or something, but it sounds too crazy to believe.

I'm guessing you could find the service manual for another monitor from Mitsubishi from around the same time period and it will have most of the same settings.

Re: Mitsubishi Megaview Pro 42 (AM-4201R) manual/remote mode
Yeah I heard about Mitsubishi trying things in the 60' range but it was a bit unclear if it even made it to market. If they did they got quickly discontinued from what I read but I cant find any visuals on them. Don't even know which country it may of been released in. I was talking about more officially released things.Xyga wrote:Well the story is Mitsubishi actually made a few 61" that weighed over 750lbs (340kg) that were kind of unstable/dangerous.Dragon89o wrote:Well I didn't know about the 43' or 45' prior to this thread. Yeah, kind of was hoping to find the actual manual for it. I guess I can try other megaviews from the same time period. Also what about the control? I hear people being unable to use universal controllers and not being able to program for them due to lack of codes. People are saying to use the official control for best of luck.BazookaBen wrote:I'm guessing you could find the service manual for another monitor from Mitsubishi from around the same time period and it will have most of the same settings.

According to the Logitech Harmony compatibility database (https://support.myharmony.com/en-us/compatibility), the Mitsubishi AM-4201R is supported.

I would then need to find the codes wouldn't I? I think others have tried to do it and failed.xga wrote:According to the Logitech Harmony compatibility database (https://support.myharmony.com/en-us/compatibility), the Mitsubishi AM-4201R is supported.

I've heard that as well. Don't believe it until I see some evidence.Xyga wrote:Well the story is Mitsubishi actually made a few 61" that weighed over 750lbs (340kg) that were kind of unstable/dangerous.
But also, a 61" CRT sounds awful. I wouldn't want one of those.

Re: Mitsubishi Megaview Pro 42 (AM-4201R) manual/remote mode
I get a discount on that series of remotes but I don't know if I currently have a need for that remote outside of using it for a TV. There are so many other things I want for my Console, PC, and Camera setups before I could buy that. So I may get around to testing it but it wouldn't be anytime soon.nissling wrote:I've heard that as well. Here is what I found on ebay. There is cheaper listings for around $24 dollars but just using this link for the better picture.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mitsubishi-290P ... SwBLlVMHnG
I can't find a list of support monitors/tvs for this remote and the listed remote for my tv I can't find a manual for or even a picture. So I have the feeling this may be the remote for my tv. It has input 1, 2, 3 and RGB 1, 2, 3 which is the same amount the Mitsubishi Megaview AM-4201R has. Also the Megaview series was claimed to be used for presentations and classrooms. This and other listings of this remote has it listed as a "Learning remote cotnrol" which might be referencing the Megaview series or hopefully my monitor specifically. Issue is trying to find one that is in decent looking conditions.
My other hope is even if it isn't the remote that came with the monitor orginially that because it's the same brand it might work anyhow. I know when I bought my Sony TV and then seperatly bought a remote for the PS3 simulview Playstation monitor it ended up working on my tv. Plus my tv remotes work on my playstation monitor. Although it has been annoying to use the remote for my tv and it turns on my Playstation display or turning on my playstation display and it also turning on my tv.
So I am hoping for the same luck though with this remote working. What do you all think?
