Looks like I'll be arriving right as the Darius play is wrapping up. Shame I'm missing so much of the good stuff.

hey guys :]

here are presentations for the guests this year :] shmuppers from China!!

WC - 邱俊圣
Image

"Hey there everybody at Stunfest, I’m Chinese shmup player, WC. I started shmupping in 1998 and quickly fell in love with the genre. Its unique charisma has not only brought me the fun of playing, but also many good friends. All who remain in the shmups circle still love taking on the genre everyday, and always will.

As a player in China, my shmup efforts mainly lie with CAVE and Psikyo titles. So I’m very honored to attend Stunfest and demonstrate Dodonpachi Saidaioujou Expert along with Strikers 1945 this year. Many thanks to the hospitable Stunfest staff for making this happen. See you guys in Rennes!"

WS - 漏伟杰

"Hi everyone, I’m WS, from Shanghai. The “W” comes where all Shanghai players share the same “W” in their name entry (no specific reason). I’ve played shmups for nearly 20 years, enjoying them since childhood. To me, shmups are a lot of fun and have a great feeling of achievement. Most shmups I played are from CAVE and Seibu/MOSS, therefore I’ll be demonstrating ESPGaluda 2 & Raiden IV Double Play for both games. I’m very happy to join you in this marvelous event and sincerely hope that our common faith can encourage more people and lead them to the way of the shmup. Let’s have fun!"

DKA - 周木真
Image

"Hi! I'm DKA, a Chinese STG player. DKA is short for DKARUGA, or "Dark Ikaruga". When I was young wanted to use Ikaruga as my internet username, because it was an impressive game, but it had already been taken, so I added the 'D' for 'Dark' to represent the game's colour changing system. Later I joined China's largest STG group, and decided I needed a signature similar to some Japanese super STG players (like SWY, TAC or ISO) so I finally settled on DKA.

I am not good at dodging bullets, so something like Touhou is hard for me. Instead I consider scoring strategy over survival or a 1 coin clear, meaning I'm used to restarting games over and over again. Stage 1 of Crimzon Clover World Ignition is definitely a good example of a game where I perform many restarts to try to achieve an optimum stage 1 score, as well as Zone P of DBACEX with the Second Silver Hawk. Additionally I really enjoy STG music, particularly Radiant Silvergun, Battle Garegga, DBACEX and Raiden V. I hope one day I can form a small band to play this type of game music.

The last thing I want to express is that I feel very lucky to be invited to attend Stunfest, and to demonstrate Crimzon Clover World Ignition and DBACEX."

Awesome!

What instrument do you play, DKA?
If we find a guitar or bass I could play some Garegga. Transcribed most of the games music back in the day. :P

I can already tell this year will meet expectations. It's a shame I can't make it - it happens to fall on the weekend I have to fly to South Africa. But I'll do my best to catch the stream, and I'll be (quietly) cheering for you guys.

WC - 邱俊圣

WS - 漏伟杰

DKA - 周木真
Boys, I think of you like my children (tears in my eyes!)

I'm sad I can't be there with you, but I want to wish you three the best of luck. Have a wonderful time and give a great show. I'm really proud my article (and some blood, sweat and emails) made this a reality; this is kind of a big thing for shmupping, to have China represented for the first time abroad, and I'm really happy I could help make it happen.

Prometheus has been great facilitating all this - I think we exchanged upward of a million emails (maybe a million and one) but there's also an unsung hero who deserves to be noted: Chris, aka X91 on the forum here, who has been managing translations and handling all my correspondence to the players (except DKA, because he speaks pretty good English!)

Just to note, we're actually waiting on two Visas to come through at the moment. We don't expect there to be any problems, they should be arriving very soon. But Chinese people know well that Visas are really complicated because there are a load of really dumb restrictions and requirements for obtaining them. I'll post an update when they're finally through.

High fives all round though boys! I'm looking forward to seeing the footage.

Give 'em bullet hell! :D

Yes, the visas, this is why we've held up on announcing things until now :S But let's be confident.

Skykid played a central role in making this possible. I learned of the "W" players and the Shanghai shmuppers in his article in eurogamer (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015- ... -heartbeat that fiend posted on shmup.com), and contacting the writer of the article found out he was Skykid. We had met some years ago in London ^_^ I want to say a public thanks to Chris aka x91 as well since I know he has been very helpful in the project too! Also props to Yom for helping out. And to 3hitcombo of course for the continuous support!!

It is really good to invite WC, WS and DKA as the first guests from China coming for Shmups in Stunfest! It is a very interesting set of demonstrations that they will be doing and it will be great to meet them :]

Awesome news! That's a nice game lineup and I'm sure the players will impress! Ever since hearing about it I've been curious how a player can manage an Espgaluda 2 double play...

Yes, although I'll be more relieved when they're actually in-hand, and better yet, the guys are on French soil!

I would love to go but neither me nor my mate can go this year. I just noticed that there will be a Wind-Jammers competition too :)

Have a good time, all.

Cheers.

Yeah, there ´s a little Windjamers community in france with website and they organize some competitions all over France and specially at the Stunfest like last editions.
My friend Keikun and their associations make that possible with 2 cabinets and the final on the big scene on a versus cabinet ! That's impressive !!!

Thanks to Skykid, Prom and Chris for the huge works on making this Event happen with Chinese Superplayers !

Welcome to Stunfest guys :-)

My goodness... Really wish I could be there, witness the very moment when our guys step on the stage...

But no regrets, I've done my best assisting Skykid. With everything settled now, I can finally rejoice and anticipate the grand opening.

I'm deeply grateful to Skykid, Prometheus and 3hitcombo, it is your dedication that brings everything together. This won't be happening if any of you was absent from the scene.

Good luck to the players, have fun everyone!

Pat yourself on the back Chris, this was a collaborative effort! You worked hard

Now we can relax and watch the show while poor Prometheus tears his hair out to make sure it all goes smoothly

There might be a strike on french railways on the 18th and 19th, so if you're coming by train on thursday I'd recommend you look into it further.
There will be a confirmation from the SNCF on monday.

Ha, I didn't get nearly as much practice as I'd have liked either. I have all the routes well in mind but my consistency is pretty terrible.
