XRGB-mini Framemeister
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Hey,
I'm having a few issues getting the Framemeister to play nicely with my PS2/Xbox over D-Terminal/Component.
I run my SNES through JP21 RGB and it works perfectly, but using when trying to use Component with the two mentioned above, I get problems with either the screen going black every few seconds (like it would if it were doing a HDMI handshake except it's just on a static menu or whatever), or the picture will be fine but I'll get a lot of judder. I've tried playing with sync settings and some other stuff but nothing seems to help.
For clarification, my SNES is PAL 60Hz Modded, my Xbox is PAL and my PS2 is NTSC.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How many different games have you tried? Which games have you tried?Xileize wrote:Hey,

I did neglect to mention that my PS2 was actually working a week or two ago, it started playing up today, which is after I tried using my Xbox a couple days ago which had the same problem.scottmog wrote:How many different games have you tried? Which games have you tried?Xileize wrote:Hey,

I was mainly trying the original Disgaea (PS2) and Dragon Valor (PSX) on the PS2, and mainly Shenmue II on the Xbox. I haven't tried loads of other games but I did put in a few others that seem to have the same issue.
Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Scanlines on 1080p really only look good when the image is perfectly integer scaled. For example, they look great on SNES 4x scaled.Everblue wrote:Quick question - now that FW2.02 is out, how good are scanlines on it @ 1080p, compared, let's say to 720p? At 1080p native resolution of course

I've got them to look pretty good. Try these out for yourself and let me know.Everblue wrote:Quick question - now that FW2.02 is out, how good are scanlines on it @ 1080p, compared, let's say to 720p? At 1080p native resolution of course
For thicker looking scanlines use these:
40 INT LINE 66 INT SMOOTH
50 INT LINE 71 INT SMOOTH
60 INT LINE 76 INT SMOOTH
70 INT LINE 81 INT SMOOTH
For more even looking scanlines use these:
40 INT LINE 71 INT SMOOTH
50 INT LINE 76 INT SMOOTH
60 INT LINE 81 INT SMOOTH
70 INT LINE 86 INT SMOOTH
For more authentic looking CRT TV scanlines use these:
40 INT LINE 81 INT SMOOTH
50 INT LINE 86 INT SMOOTH
60 INT LINE 91 INT SMOOTH
70 INT LINE 96 INT SMOOTH
As FBX said, these will only look good on perfectly integer scaled 4X profiles.

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Does anyone know why the Super Famicom would be producing vertical and diagonal lines in the RGB image? I'm running it off a Sega 9V MK-1602 with 1.2 amps so it isnt starving for power. I've tried CSYNC and Composite Video Sync cables, same result, I've tried a few different power supplies, even the official Super Famicom Japanese 10v 850mA same result, I even tried a regular Nintendo composite cable connected directly to my TV and the vertical lines are still there.
So could this be capacitors on the board that have gone dead? I took a picture, the first is the original, the second is solarized to make it a little easier to see, look under Pikachu's tail in the green and the black of the letterboxing. And I have tried the system without a game, and they're still in the image.

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Some board revisions of the SFC/SNES are notoriously bad for image quality. I have a SNES with the APU revision that has identical noise in the image as you show in your pictures. Ultimately I obtained a 1CHIP-03 and restored csync on it for the best possible picture. No bars, no noise, and no smearing.zakruowrath wrote:Does anyone know why the Super Famicom would be producing vertical and diagonal lines in the RGB image? I checked and I have the SNS-CPU-RGB-01, no wonder the image is washed out and overly bright, especially the GameBoy screen areaFBX wrote:Some board revisions of the SFC/SNES are notoriously bad for image quality. I also have a SHVC-CPU-01 SNES with the seperate APU in need of I believe new RAM chips, and I don't remember it having those lines, but that was on a CRT through a CSY 2100.
I may replace the caps in the future and check the RGB circuit components and see if it makes a difference. I also wonder if having wires come directly off the S-RGB BA6596F (RGBs) pins and adding a THS7314 multi out board from RetroRGB would help? Maybe even create a custom board and come directly off the PPU?
I guess the better question is, what's creating the interference in the first place, the S-PPU2 or the S-RGB encoder?

also may possibly look into getting a 1CHIP model or motherboard in the future

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Guys I need some help. I have completely setup my Framemeister and I am trying to load profiles from my SD Card, but I am hitting a wall.
When I do DATA -> LOAD_SELECT it just shows me a menu to select if I want to display in RGB, HDMI etc. and all options are greyed out. I doesn't show me any files, and I cannot do anything. I tried 2 different SD Card, same problem.
Files are found in a folder named EEPDATA (all caps).
I rebooted the Framemeister but it didn't solve anything
Edit: Nevermind, found out there is another folder involved
Will give some feedback later!

If you're not using a custom profile, you may be forced into the "DEC" options. Makes sure you load a custom profile first, like the ones I have made, and turn ZOOM to "ON".Everblue wrote:Where do I find these settings please? Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Ok I have managed to play a bit on my Framemeister on an HP27XW monitor....
First, these are a few pictures from my PC Engine using a MDx4 setting from FBX's pack @ 1080p.

The picture looked flawless and I see absolutely no problems with the scanlines. Furthermore, I loaded a PC Engine x4 custom profile and used one of the CRT settings using FBX's suggested settings... and well... WOW I'm REALLY impressed.
Few notes about the monitor (I didn't used it much but here it goes:
Lag: what lag?
Ghosting/blur: what ghosting blur?
Screen: Yeah, I wish it black were blacker, but once you are playing, you don't care any more
Anyone got question, feel free to ask, my turn to give back

Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
Looks clear, clean, and right!
Yes you'll have to deal with the comparatively weak contrast and probably some IPS glow, but that's only really annoying with dark contents.
The benefits of a spotless and snappy picture (as much as it goes with classic 60Hz lcds) are much greater IMHO.
It would be awesome if it had hidden Adaptive Sync /FreeSync compatibility too.
Anyway you tried 720p and 480p modes yet ? to see how the monitor deals with those.

Yup I know its an IPS 'problem', but certainly I can live with it. Maybe once OLEDs become a thing, we can have nice proper blacks

Tried 720p for a minute, looked ok, but slightly blurry as it wasn't at the screens native resolution (and I'm sitting 2 feet away from the screen so that doesn't help).
I am about to test Dreamcast over RGB/SCART next - any custom profiles handy for 1080p?
Thanks

Does anyone have a capture device connected through their Framemeister, because if i set HDMI_1_Direct to On, my Avermedia refuses to show the image, I either get a black screen or a completely distorted image. I've even tried with my Haupaugge to the same results. Any solutions?

I have FBX's profiles loaded up and they look great, with RGB i can actually play super mario 64 on my rgb modded 64, i was just curious why the greens only show 1 like shade if i use svideo or composite?
is it due to jacked up settings and the profiles from FBX only change the RGB input?
just wondering, i dont plan on using these inputs too often, was just curious
thanks for the great info

Well those scanlines are whatever come out of the box with FBX's Megadrive x4 profile, eventually I played around with different scanline settings he posted, and they look just as good, if not better (slightly thicker).austin532 wrote:Glad to hear that they look good as I don't have every 240p system to test them on. Re: XRGB-mini Framemeister (now available !)
I'm not sure if I understood you correctly but as far as I know FBX's profiles are made for RGB only, so composite or svideo might not be fully compatible. Secondly I think his profiles are made with the Framemeister set to DVI in mind. Differences between HDMI and DVI output were already discussed several pages ago.africamagical wrote:I have FBX's profiles loaded up and they look great, with RGB i can actually play super mario 64 on my rgb modded 64, i was just curious why the greens only show 1 like shade if i use svideo or composite?
Last but not least: Never forget that some options like resolution, HDMI/DVI, scanlines, RGB FULL/LIMITED... are not being saved by profiles and therefore need to be set manually.
