Mine says shipped as well...I paid for the fastest UPS shipping, so hopefully I'll have it by next week. I like how Play-Asia has the UPS data integrated right into their site.MSZ wrote:My copy has been shipped out from play-asia today.

Looking for confirmation on a firmware upgrade requirement, to what firmware version, and if a psp version changer is enough to get around this.
Any info appreciated!
Generally speaking, version changers don't work beyond 2.0. A few 2.1+ games work due to some piracy voodoo in which you replace the .prx files in an ISO with that of a game that works on older firmware, but Gradius Portable isn't one of them.
Good luck or cry.

This is pretty lame, I'm not willing to give up homebrew. So I guess I'm going to be holding off on this. What a nasty decision to be forced into ...

Got the game yesterday. Here are some notable features:
- Three display options: normal, large, and full screen.
- Hit box options: normal/small.
- Gallery mode: music/intro movies from previous Gradius compilations (deluxe pack,III&IV,Gaiden).
- Single-Player ONLY.
FYI,as many others have previously stated,Gradius Portable requires fw 2.50 upgrade.

i know this post is old as all hell, but it was too funny to not quote and reply to.
anyway, the fw upgrade is disappointing. i've got sengoku cannon on the way, and was looking forward to gradius keeping it company.
as i don't know much about the homebrew scene, i have a question. is this one of those, "it's only a matter of time" kind of things, before someone finds another go around? or at this point, is it a matter of me saying one or the other?
OT: homebrew is supported up to v2.1 now right?
I have no sig whatsoever.

Well, there's this one 2.50 reach-around program I haven't tried yet (PSPsetX,I think?).captain ahar wrote: anyway, the fw upgrade is disappointing. i've got sengoku cannon on the way, and was looking forward to gradius keeping it company.

Fajita of the uh, appropriately named www.fanjita.org is already hard at work on on a 2.6 firmware flasher. I have been using his 2.0 flasher for over a month, and even thought it crashes 4/10 times, it loads all my emulators perfectly when it does open. Best of all, fajita's programs do not allow ISP loaders and they refuse to work on a downgrader (which allows ISO play), they insist their emphasis is on homebrew/emulators (which is probably why Sony hasn't bothered to shut down the site yet as MPH's was)
Anyways, I ordered this today from NCS. With portable Gradius 1-Gaiden and Capcom Classics to go next month (Varth and 1941 baby), losing my roms hurts a lot less personally. If they can crack later on, fine, it's icing. But if not, I can look into a Gamepark or a PDA. Megaman Man X, Mega Man Powered Up with 100 extra challenge mini levels, online level edior, Daxter looks hot too. Bah. I don't need my roms, I'll just play 'em at home.

You're going to take your PSP to 2.5 firmware early? It might be a good idea to rethink and wait until a robust 2.5 exploit is out first (if ever). Having a few new v2.5+ shmups will be great, but in the process your PSP might be forever losing two or three dozen better v1.5/2.0 shmups. Only kill your homebrew-compatible firmware if you're absolutely sure. There's no certainty that a Gamepark or a PDA will do the job as well as a 1.5/2.0 PSP.Dylan1CC wrote:With portable Gradius 1-Gaiden and Capcom Classics to go next month (Varth and 1941 baby), losing my roms hurts a lot less personally. This is the reason why I own two PSPs,since I'm a bit skeptical about the GP2X's romz capabilities.Thunder Force wrote:You're going to take your PSP to 2.5 firmware early? As I said before, fanjita is already hard at work and close to cracking both 2.5 and 2.6. And you don't need to wait 'till they make the fix. I'd already upgraded to 2.0 (Tokobot forced me) when I downloaded their V.9 changer which works great.Thunder Force wrote:You're going to take your PSP to 2.5 firmware early? But OTOH, I didn't buy my PSP to be an emulator (seriously didn't start using them until at least 3-4 months after i bought it when the thought had finally caught my interest). It is a nice extra feature but at this point it's either play 1.5 UMDs forever just to play my old console games and Noiz2a (never got Rrootage to work) or buy some new releases.
I love my emu but as an example if I had a choice between Tokobot or my roms, I'd choose Tokobot just for the fact that I want a new title on my system now and then, ya know?

Yeah, basically the original games have large hitboxes (the whole ship), and there's an option for small hitboxes (dot in center of ship like manic shooters), at least I think this is how it will be.iatneH wrote:Large/small hitbox options? Weird
All of the games on this collection should have "large" hitboxes in the original versions, right?

Has anybody tried running this (or any other 2.5+ UMD) through the Fastloader hack? I'm on firmware 1.5 and can run the BurnOut UMD (a 2.0+ game) through it without a problem. I see no reason why this would work for 2.0 games but not 2.5+.
I'll be damned if I give up my homebrew capability because of $ony's paranoia.

I thought the fastloader was only for ISOs? Or is it also a stand alone program that lets you boot UMDs?Lone Deranger wrote:Has anybody tried running this (or any other 2.5+ UMD) through the Fastloader hack? Dylan1CC: Not just for ISOs... It has various functionalities. One of them being the ability to boot a UMD. There is also an option to make an ISO dump of the currently inserted UMD.
A really nice feature is the ability to unlock the PSP's processor speed to full 333Mhz glory. Tears through your battery though.
Anyway, you start the fastloader from the MemoryStick, so yes... it's a standalone program.

Thanks for the info, BIG. I gave in and bought picked this up today, even though I've got a 1.50 PSP and have no plan to upgrade it. Hoping to find some workaround to get it playing though.
PSPsetx requires 2.00, right? Would be interested to know the results if anyone tries this as well.

Some games with newer tech simply don't work with Fastloader (aka UMD Emulator)Lone Deranger wrote:Has anybody tried running this (or any other 2.5+ UMD) through the Fastloader hack? For reference, you can find an almost complete list of titles that do/don't work with that booting method HERE
