Previous thread: 1
__________
This thread will track the following modes and settings:
  • Arcade Original, Xbox 360/Perfect/Additional, and OverKill
  • Normal to Ultimate difficulties only*
  • All three ships, solo only
* if anyone actually wants to play easy besides me, let me know

Boards will be added when a score for that category is submitted. Remember that "Original" is both the name of the submode you need to select in Arcade mode, as well as a difficulty setting for all modes.

3 lives and 3 bombs for all modes. I currently do not know how either arcade version's difficulty settings work, but I know that the Type X version defaults to the same difficulty that's called "Original" in the ports. Don't use a 50Hz version.

Be careful when using other ships, as there are no separate boards for them in-game.

Thanks to Moss, figuring out what you actually played in this game is a nightmare. Please always note exactly what you used to play this game.

There are five modes: Arcade, Xbox 360/Perfect/Additional, OverKill, the original Boss Rush (only on 360), and the OverKill Boss Rush (only in OK).
There are six (valid) difficulties for each mode: Easy, Normal, Original, Hard, Very Hard, and Ultimate.
Arcade has two "submodes": Light and Original. These are separate from the difficulty setting.
There are three ways to play any given mode: Solo, Dual, and Double.
For Solo and Double, you have a choice of three ships: the Fighting Thunder ME-02 Kai (the default ship erroneously called the Raiden Mk-II, has the purple whip laser), the Raiden Mk-II (starts off at a lower power level but each power level is stronger, has the green whip laser), and the Fairy. Of course, Double lets you mix and match these however.

Oh, and it can get a lot worse than this.

-I know the website just calls the Raiden (the DLC ship) the "Fighting Thunder Mk-II", but this already threatened to cause problems for the old thread. Please just call it the Raiden. (The idea is that the line of fighters in Raiden was renamed "Fighting Thunder". The ME-02 is the new ship for Raiden III, while Raiden IV's default ship is a "Kai" model of ME-02.)
-The World Rankings mode in the 360 version uses Original difficulty on Original (submode) for Arcade Mode, and Normal difficulty for Xbox 360 Mode; OverKill's World Rankings mode uses Normal difficulty for everything. Again, if you happened to use World Rankings mode, please note this. Note everything. PCB or Nesica or OverKill on PS3 or GOG or Steam, please please please.

So much for blanking the board.

Sorry, meant to write Original there. I assume your score is Arcade Original Original.

Please edit your post so it says "Fighting Thunder" then. I had put your score in the Raiden section because it looked like you read the post about the categories and you said "Raiden".

OverKill - Normal difficulty - ME-02 Kai
Neptas - 42,970,460 - 1-7 - Plasma/Proton - Double Play - PC (Steam)

I wanted to wait the 1CC before putting up my score, but since I'm still in middle of university semester, it may take a moment before that happen.

Silly death on 1-3 Boss that possibly cost me the clear. Also I'm still pretty bad at 1-6 since I haven't worked that level yet, and completely forgot about 1-7 due to stress (it was mostly like "OH S*** I PASSED 1-6 BOSS!?" in my head :p).
Seriously, what's up with 1-5? You can barely see a thing.

OverKill is really something though, and Double Play on that game feels much harder than in Ikaruga, just because bombs and life are shared between both ships (like it needed to be harder  ).
I figured a way to get around ~3 times more damage output than a single player though, that really helps, specially for OverKill level 5 bonus (+100k each) and for the bosses. They generally don't last 15 seconds.

Nice. Do you plan on going for 2-All on it, or are you fine with the 1-All?

I don't know yet. I'm going to try a 2-ALL in Arcade mode for the moment, cause it's (much) easier than the OverKill mode. The speed of bullets in the 2nd loop is really impressive though, it basically requiered perfect movements during the whole loop.

Arcade mode - Normal difficulty - Original - Fighting Thunder ME-02 Kai
Neptas - 47,438,630 - 2-3 - Plasma/Proton - Double Play - PC (Steam)

Video will be coming later today.

So that run was pretty amazing, no miss on the first loop and till 2-3, where I lost all my lives. Lack of training on that stage, but also someone on the phone that completely put me out of the games, it's hard to get back in it correctly  .

Also managed TO MISS the 1-UP on 1-4, while, of course, it never ever happened before. Cause why not.

So well, lot of room of improvements actually, 2-ALL is feasible.

I noticed my score is quite higher than BBH who died on 2-3 too (47m VS 37m), and I'm actually close to CIV (49m) who died 2 stages later. Just by clearing the game correctly, a very good score may be possible (+70m?). Comparing with Jaimers' splendid video, he has ~43.3m where I die myself.

Not really a surprise there. 2 ships means faster kills, which means more points. You can even get the boss milking done twice as fast if you're doing it(probably too risky for survival) as well as more charged attacks for those 500(or 100 in Overkill) hits.

Both the overkill and flash shot score systems definitely have higher potential score on Double Play than on Single Play, but it's a lot harder to optimize.

Yup, though I'm not doing the milking part, I really dislike that kind of scoring in Shmups, it really kills the pace for me, and I don't feel it's pleasant to look at someone doing that (was never my case at least).

I don't think it's harder to optimize though, the survival is obviously harder, but scoring in itself is way easier. Just stay at middle of screen, and you basically kill everyone at once. Even for OverKill, with one red and one purple, you can get the Level 5 bonus in a second.

Upgrade time though:
Arcade mode - Normal difficulty - Original - Fighting Thunder ME-02 Kai
Neptas - 57,799,260 - 2-5 - Plasma/Proton - Double Play - PC (Steam)

My weak point for now is Boss 2-3, it's a real pain. Even boss 2-4 was pretty correct in that run, as it's just a faster version of 1-4. Once again, no miss till Boss 2-2, really proud about that, it seems rather consistent.

Arcade mode - Normal difficulty - Original - Fighting Thunder ME-02 Kai
Neptas - 63,983,760 - 2-5 - Plasma/Proton - Double Play - PC (Steam)

ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

Lost 1 life middle of 2-4 and lost 7 bombs at once. (for once I managed to save bombs for the last part of the game    )

Then lost 3 in beginning of 2-5 at the worst time possible. Managed to get to the boss, and died on the last pattern.

The 2-ALL is close though, and without big mistakes, I can clear the game soon.

It's gonna be my first 2-ALL ever!

By the way, anyone knows the real difference between Normal or Original? Loop 1 seems a bit faster, specially at later levels, but that's pretty much all. I don't even feel like there is any difference in any difficulty in loop 2

I haven't completely gave up on this game yet. After getting through my final exams, time to 2-ALL once and for all that stupid game then never ever mention it again.

Decided to go in Original difficulty since that's apparently what everyone plays, though I didn't notice a single difference, except maybe bullet speed in Loop 1.

Arcade mode - Original difficulty - Original - Fighting Thunder ME-02 Kai
Neptas - 59,976,820 - 2-4 - Plasma/Proton - Double Play - PC (Steam)

Managed to no miss till 2-3 Boss, lost a single life but had everything I have could ever hoped to this point (3 lifes, 3 bombs, red + purple power, M missiles).

Then completely lost it on second part of 2-4 and lost everything in literaly 6 seconds. (Thanks you, devs, for putting 'shared life' in Double Play, I really like having my lifes destroyed 2 by 2, specially when you only have at most 4 of them :!: :?: ).

Oh well, I started practicing like 3 days ago, so it's not all that bad and I still got it.

2-4 is clearly the big step, 2-5 isn't half as hard, and 2-6 is a joke in DP.

The year is 2017, and the thread still looks like crap. I hate categories, but categories are required for so many of these games to prevent them from devolving into "pick a top tier". Please help me.

1. I want to get rid of Double and prevent Dual from ever happening. Please?

2. If we do that, I also want to prevent Boss Rush from happening. I have to make two separate Boss Rush tables, multiplied by all difficulties and ships, because the developers of OverKill thought it'd be a great idea to change Boss Rush to use OverKill rules. Please?

Just the above two would cut out a LOT of the bullshit, even if it doesn't seem like it.

3. I kinda want to just have a couple of difficulties, but the Normal/Original nonsense compels me to at least have all the ones that aren't Practice and Very Easy (which are stupid). What do?

4. I would rather not retroactively do anything for Raiden III, because III isn't completely insane with the categories. Raiden IV should have just been like III. Thanks, Moss + friends.

Help.

Ahh... uhh... is that Original the difficulty level and Original the submode of Arcade Mode? I hate this game.

Ahh yes that game is really confusing with the modes and stuff.

So, yeah, the score is in Arcade mode and Original is the difficulty level as well as the submode. That would put the score in the table with 26 scores.

I figured as much, thank you. Added.

Things I want to do: make some "Black Label" of Raiden IV that doesn't have the previous versions in it, make a separate thread for it, then throw this ridiculous thread at someone else forever

I don’t think so. Isn’t this enough?
At this rate, I won’t be interested into shmups anymore. I am no longer going to be active in this forum from now on. I am more interested into Kemono Friends, rhythm games, D4DJ, Puzzle Games, Hololive, and Pretty Cure.

Farewell.
