When I say they're slipping, I mean they're going a direction that I don't like. With certain styles of gameplay and aesthetics that don't appeal to me at all becoming very wide spread and dominant, while the things I like become more singular and hard to find on consoles (when they weren't before). So far, Nintendo has been the biggest aversion of this during this generation.
I guess it's a matter of taste, I'll call it quits on this discussion for now.

Ahh I see.... well there is a reason why I own a Wii U there are definitely games on it that I cant' find elsewhere.Squire Grooktook wrote:When I say they're slipping, I mean they're going a direction that I don't like. That said....I'm soo crossing my fingers for Star Fox Zero to be good. Unlike the previous disappointments... last really good Star Fox game was Star Fox 64..... I was actually happy with the 3DS remake.. really enjoyed it in 3D
Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
this is a really stupid argument. I have a ps4, I don't have a wii u. my pc is ancient, like 2005 or something - don't remember exactly. so I don't really use it or play games on it. but even if I had a decent pc I would probably have a ps4 just to play bloodborne.
having said all of that it's pretty clear that the ps4 has very few great games which are not on pc. it's also pretty clear that the wii u just has very few games in general, but the ones it does have can only be played there. it's going to come down to whether those games resonate with you or not.
it is also clear that the wii u is on the way out and going to get very few more games while the ps4 is going to continue getting stronger for a decent amount of time. how many more exclusive titles it will get is hard to say - but there will definitely be more.
the value of any of these things is going to differ person to person. it's super pointless arguing about it.
-edit- the main thing that annoys me about the wii u is that the damn games never go down in price. I wish I could just ignore the wii u for a couple of years and then pick up the console and games for cheap like I'm currently doing with the ps3. -_-;

Even in a few years the prices will remain the same lol.Immryr wrote: -edit- the main thing that annoys me about the wii u is that the damn games never go down in price. C'mon we saw it with the original Wii as well games are still retailing for almost full price unless its the Nintendo version of the Greatest hits then its like half of the original retail release.
3DS is in the same boat... we'd be lucky if we can find games at 50% off used.
Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
Nintendo positions itself as a premium manufacturer who refuses to play the race to the bottom game of Microsoft and Sony. In fact, I quite like that I can buy a Nintendo game and if I don't like it, or it doesn't keep me interested long enough, I can resell while losing very little money. On the other hand, buy an Xbone or PS4 game at launch, and after half a year you'll get a fraction of the money if you want to sell it.Immryr wrote:-edit- the main thing that annoys me about the wii u is that the damn games never go down in price. Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
I like the WiiU's games, but releases like that Animal Crossing Amiibo board game and Mario Tennis are a bit disappointing. There is no good reason for the former to be a full priced game and the latter to have less content than even the 3DS Mario Tennis. While I like Splatoon and Mario Maker quite a bit, I found the decision to lock content for a later time a bit odd. More frustrating with Splatoon since much of the single player is locked behind Amiibo.

So I found this today on SRK

http://store.nintendo.co.uk/wii-u-acces ... 29357.html
I really don't know what to say other than I'm really turned off about the whole Pokken release. I was just reminded that in order to play local you have to use both the TV and the Wii U Gamepad and on top of that the first player has to use the Wii U Pad!!!!!!!
Anyone else annoyed with the Pokken details?
I'm most likely going to pick the game up but damn.... I am really bummed

Jesus H Christ, why can't Nintendo get their controller compatibility right? Why isn't the GC controller compatible with only Smash? That's so short sighted.. Then they pull the same garbage with Pokken, not that I was interested in that game but egads Nintendo.....
How awesome would it be to have a GC controller work with N64 and GC games on the virtual console....?

Yhaa this is a big problem not just with Nintendo. I've held off buying majority of fighting games and racing games for my PS4 because I was unable to use my PS3 fight sticks and Racing Wheel. Not only that my expensive PS3 headsets doesn't work either.broken harbour wrote:Jesus H Christ, why can't Nintendo get their controller compatibility right? Its a dick move and detracts players from buying the game for that console or finding another platform to play on.
Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
Didn't Sony say that PS3 peripherals would work on PS4? I vaguely remember reading that some PS3 sticks work on PS4, for instance.
Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
I agree that they dropped the ball heavily in this regard. It's pretty dumb how a game like SSB4 can have so many controller variations but most other games are limited to Wii/Wii U options. It doesn't seem like it would even cost them much to just release support as free DLC.Shelcoof wrote:Crosses fingers that this gets resolved before the game gets released.DestroyTheCore wrote: People will obviously complain and Nintendo will eventually patch it. You mean a firmware update or patch to support accessories like the GameCube controller? Yhaa I don't think it would either..... I honestly think it would help with sales a lot more.tacoguy64 wrote: I agree that they dropped the ball heavily in this regard. Right now I'm thinking about the NX I've read rumors that Smash will be available for the system at Launch. If that is the case I'm buying an NX just for Smash alone..... just like way back when I bought the Gamecube because of Smash!
I'm really hoping that Wii U and Gamecube Controllers are supported by the NX. I have 4 Wii U Pro controllers and 12 Gamecube controllers..... plus 6 Wiimotes and Nunchucks!

I don't want the NX to be like the PS4 where I hold off on buying games because I just can't justify buying more controllers for just one or two games.

Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
Pushing 1080p on what's essentially mid-range laptop hardware on the PS4 is difficult enough. The Xbone can't even reach that far, and has to resort to 900p. Nintendo's next console doesn't have a chance. it will be stuck at 720p for another generation. Maybe 800p if you're lucky. lol

But yes thats what they should be doing. Adding additional controller support for games that would benefit from it.
Being on par with both PS and Xbox graphic capabilities should be ok for them. I would like it if they made it a bit stronger than the PS4 but being a bit weaker is ok too. The important thing is that they are able to get third parties to finally start making games for the NX. Having a similar platform in that regards will make it easier for devs to port games.Udderdude wrote:Pushing 1080p on what's essentially mid-range laptop hardware on the PS4 is difficult enough. Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
I started playing Devil's Third the other day. It's a lot better than review might lead you to believe. In fact, I'm having a lot of fun with it.
It is by no means perfect (occasional glitches and stuttering), but I've come across a lot worse games than this one. The campaign is quite lengthy too, considering the genre. The boss fights are the highlight for me so far (minus the first one, which is just a warm-up anyway).

Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
It got better review scores in Japan.Udderdude wrote:Wow, I just checked the reviews .. game got absolutely shat on by every major publication. Ouch.
I finished Devil's Third today. It was worth the time and money, but I'll probably sell it rather than keep it. Overall, it's a competent if mildly flawed experience. On its own, the campaign certainly stands up to typical AAA games, in terms of fun. It takes about 8 to 10 hours, depending on your play style. Several times I experimented with different approaches. The game is very flexible. While there are some areas where you (presumably) have to stick to guns or melee combat, there are many where the approach is up to you. Among the most satisfying moments were when I managed to slash up enemies very quickly by taking them head on with the katana, instead of a more drawn out shooting match. Note that the enemies will pull out their blades if you get close, so it's not as if they are like sitting ducks once you manage to break through the line of defense.
To compare it to some other games I recently played: It plays a lot better (and was much more fun) than The Last of Us, which likewise mixes gunplay and melee. Similar mixtures of melee and gunplay are also in Bayonetta 1/2 and Vanquish, to some extent. Devil's Third does not reach their level. It's a solid 8/10 IMO, though. If you like a nice action romp, give Devil's Third a try. Note that the game expects you to "git gud", i.e. use the terrain (get the high ground whenever possible) and the weapons effectively, act fast, and exploit your enemies' weaknesses. This is quite different than a Call of Duty campaign that requires little more than hitting the fire button. I'm quite impressed with how much thought went into the melee system. There are several weapons available, for instance katana, tomahawk, fire axe, sledge hammer, and some more. They play vastly differently. The weight of the weapon even influences your walking and running speed. I can only reiterate what I wrote about the bosses. One of them would have fit perfectly into the Doom universe. If there was a 'boss rush' mode, I'd certainly play that repeatedly.
Re: The Wii U ( WiiU ) Thread
I don't even have a WiiU and probably will never due to region-locking so I haven't played it, but from what I gather, it is the kind of games that get panned by the press as they don't fit their weird standards yet the actual people who buy them tend to like them.Udderdude wrote:Wow, I just checked the reviews .. game got absolutely shat on by every major publication. It is quite possible that the negative press coverage lead to lower expectations and thus more enjoyment out of the purchases, but in any case, I would trust people's opinion on this game more than the press'.
Well, of course, this piece of advice is relevant for any game whatsoever due to how terrible "gaming journalism" is, but it seems even truer in this case.

Toying w/ getting a WiiU. If I wanted to play Japanese games is it advisable to just get an NTSC-J unit? I see there is an exploit but I'm generally weary of those things. However, looking over on the Japanese side of things, the units haven't dropped in price much. What the cock is Nintendo doing? I've been way out of the loop.

The Wii U has no noteworthy third party support. You're fine with a non J system unless you want to play Xenoblade Chronicles X or #FE or whatever it was called with japanese voices

I'm in the same boat... I've been waiting to see if something popped up to defeat the region locking. There isn't much on it I want and the continued gimmicky controller aspects, Amiibos and things like Splatoon that just are a turn off looks wise (I hate the look style wise).... If Bayonetta 2 came out else where I'd probably just skip it.
To be honest at this point I wish they'd just go third party. Getting sick of having to shell out a few hundred, for last gen hardware, for a handful of exclusives. I'd just rather spend 60.00 bucks on the new Zelda on the PS4 etc.

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Yeah, but the Zeldas are generally quite fun... no telling when the new one will be out though, eh? I see Nintendo as control freaks to the max. They're not going to go 3rd party until they're on their last leg, a la Sega. From what little I've heard, they are very much a Japanese company... which generally means stubborn.
