-Arcade and Japanese PlayStation version: 3 lives, all difficulty 2. Please note which version you used.
-US PlayStation version: 5 lives, all difficulty 4.
-Just ignore the European PlayStation version, it's probably a bad conversion anyway.
-Saturn version (Layer Section II): 3 lives, all difficulty 3.

Other difficulties or settings, 13 Players, Attack Mode, and Ray Storm HD by request, of course. I'm not interested in the iOS version at all and I recommend that someone makes their own thread for it.

PlayStation version: To unlock stage select, finish Arcade mode. To unlock 13 Players Order mode, finish Extra mode.

I think that's everything.

Can someone fill me in on LSII and HD? I think they're similar enough that I can group them together, but what settings do they use? And does LSII really have the original R-Gray 0 as an unlockable, outside of 13 Players?

Thank you guys :D

Took me a about two and a half months overall. I played no other game during that peroid (the exception being Solstice on the NES for the sake of diversion during the frustrating moments).
Needless to say I had a lot of free time handy...
Stage select option with the difficulty switched to maximum helped me a lot.
Great game overall (like most Taito shmups I played), it's a shame nobody seems to bother with it in the community.

Just whipped this out for a spontaneous credit... haven't played the game since early this year and somehow managed to beat my old record just like that by almost a million.

Finally figured out all these versions, aside from HD and iPhone. Thread updated.

The PC version should be identical to the original Japanese version, but I don't have it.

iPhone Version? It should be iOS version. Update that aside from Xbox 360 HD Mode,PSX,PC, and Arcade Versions. Taito recently updated Raystorm as well as Rayforce and Raycrisis.
At this rate, I won’t be interested into shmups anymore. I am no longer going to be active in this forum from now on. I am more interested into Kemono Friends, rhythm games, D4DJ, Puzzle Games, Hololive, and Pretty Cure.

When I wrote that, it was not known to be iPad-compatible.

If a score is submitted, I will open a board for it. Again, I don't have the iOS version, so I have no idea what's in it and what version it's based on; this is a potentially bigger problem for Storm than Force. I don't have access to HD either.

I am doing this because Taito updated the iOS port of RayStorm.

I assume that the Taito Legends 2 conversion is analogous to the Japanese arcade release? From what I've read it's supposed to be a perfect port.

To the best of my knowledge, yes.

Yeah, okay, took a look at these iOS ports. I'm just gonna be a straight asshole here, I don't like 'em. Just graft on touch controls to game design that absolutely wasn't made for it, terrible idea. A bunch of extra tables for versions that don't look that great, and that only one person wants... I'll pass. Mushi Novice makes much more sense than this (especially for Ultra), I really hated having to make a separate topic for that. If someone wants to make their own topic for these iOS versions, I'd be fine with that and would link to it here.

In the shmup goals 2020 thread, ggmaximo calls on players to try their hand at RayStorm. While I'd rather put the time into RayCrisis right now, I answered the call with a new PB, reaching stage 5. I almost didn't make it given how scary that battleship boss is (I think its name is Hannibal?). You really have to just remember where the lasers are going to fire in that stage when it comes to all those smaller battleships.

Great job man, and after only 8 or so days! Too bad I was busy while you were streaming it. Hopefully a replay is uploaded :wink: The other day when you were getting to the final boss with a spare life, I knew it was only a matter of time.

Hopefully I can get there too. Yesterday's practice was:
-make it to stage 6
-make it to stage 5
-make it to stage 4

Hey, I did it! This is probably one of the hardest 1cc's I've ever gotten, and there was so much luck in this run it might as well be a fluke. Then again, there was a lot of bad luck too, so maybe it all evens out? :wink:

Congrats Omkol and EmperorIng! That didn't take long at all.

I've decided to dedicate myself to this game as well. However life is so hectic it'll probably be just stage practice until I actually get time to grind full runs. Hopefully sometime before August 4th, 2219.

In the meantime I'm going to head over to the strategy section and post some random facts about the game I've discovered.

Do either of you guys have plans to go for higher scores? Or was the clear itself too traumatic lol?

Ha, thank you. Though by my calculations, I started practicing RayStorm just over two months ago, so make of that what you will!
OmKol by comparison cleared in about 9 days.


While I would like to beat Kollision's score and have da commoonity record for RGray02, this was a pretty hard feat and I'm not sure what I'd need to change to get an extra 3-4 million in routing. Survival is quite a bear already.

Congrats to all. Can I ask y'all a question? How in the actual fuck do you play this cursed wretched hateful game? I understand that I'm not good at games, but I can barely make it out of stage 2.

The new port helps, but I really wanna play this on keyboard, and every emulator has crazy input lag... sigh. Can't hook a keyboard up to a Switch! Well, you can, but basically no game uses it.

PC version is out now. You can't remap the keyboard controls, unfortunately, which sucks, but it plays super nicely. RayStorm audio seems broken for now, though, which is why I played this on PS5 instead.
