If Taito actually dips out on including TATE, they'd be unloading a shotgun shell into their own foot... I'm kinda hoping developers such as Cave and Skonec will catch wind of how horridly Taito is porting their games, and go back to letting Arika and Success, respectively, port them-- faithfully and, of equal importance, put some goddamn effort into the port.chtimi wrote:yes those are definitely tate screenshots. i don't think anybody expects true low res from taito at this point.freddiebamboo wrote:I know its not exactly cast iron proof, but none of those screenshots had yoko side borders, which makes me assume this is tate-able.
And it looks like a very similar conversion to the mushi one, so I wouldn't be at all suprised at scaled graphics.

On a related note, does anyone know why the save files for DDP:DOJ, Mushi, and apparently Ibara are reasonably sized, but the basic save file for Galuda (not counting the equally-sized stage replay save-files) was 200 kb? It still perplexes me to this day.

There were multiple factors:Zweihander wrote:why the hell would they decline?Valgar wrote:Arika was asked to port Mushi, but they declined.
The initial work on DDP:DOJ was _hard_. However, since Galuda ran on the same hardware, that was much less work, so they'd prefer to port games on the DDP:DOJ hardware.
Mushi is new hardware. So they'd have the same hard work to go through for that port. Of course that might have made future ports (ibara/galuda2) easier.
Mihara had mentioned being 'sick' around that time. Something about work-related stress. I think he even went into the hospital for a bit. If his job was already that stressful, the Mushi port was probably out of the question.
So when they turned it down, off to Taito went Cave.
On an unrelated note, anyone know what resolution the mushi/ibara/galuda2 hardware runs at?

Actually, Cave ported Mushi (and, the upcoming Ibara) to the PS2 themselves. Taito was just the publisher. For proof of this just look at Cave's consumer game page:zakk wrote:The initial work on DDP:DOJ was _hard_. It says clearly in Japanese that Cave is the developer of the Mushi home port, while Taito is the publisher. If you compare DOJ and Galuda on that page, it states Arika was both the Developer and Publisher of the home ports.
Arika would be the best choice for a Ketsui port, as it's on the DOJ/Galuda hardware, right? I'd think it would be a snap for them, considering they have the dev tools all in place and two games on that hardware behind them. But I doubt it will happen at this point.

Yes, essentially Black label is a port of the PS2 arrange mode to the arcade, but they have "intensified the sense of destruction and the thrill of weaving through bullets" in the Black Label. From reading that blurb I got the impression the basic system is from Arrange mode, but with extra graphical upgrades (and perhaps more intense bullet patterns) exclusive to the Arcade Black Label. Anyway I hope I'm wrong and the PS2 arrange mode will be totally identical to black label.

Damn, so Arika does better Cave ports the Cave themselves? Ouch.twe wrote: Actually, Cave ported Mushi (and, the upcoming Ibara) to the PS2 themselves. Taito was just the publisher. For proof of this just look at Cave's consumer game page:

This may explain why only 100 PCBs were made, and why the price is not astronomical.

Mihara said something about not doing Ketsui on PS2 because it would be a straight bare-bones Arcade port, which no one would buy.twe wrote:Arika would be the best choice for a Ketsui port, as it's on the DOJ/Galuda hardware, right? Well, they make arcade games, not PS2 games. I'm sure PS2 is a completely different beast from the games' original hardware. Plus they are trying to re-create the same game on different hardware, not building it from the ground up, so I'm sure it's a tedious process.Dave_K. wrote: Damn, so Arika does better Cave ports the Cave themselves? Here's to hoping Cave gets better and better at porting as they go, and Arrange being a carbon copy of Black Label.

Well, it's been up for a couple months actually, but under the name "ishoubi". They finally corrected it. For those who already preordered it when it was called "ishoubi" (like me), don't worry. You don't have to cancel it and re-preorder this. They've automatically changed the game's name for your order.Michaelm wrote:Ibara up for preorder at yesasia.com.
For those who haven't preordered it yet.

Say what you will, but I want the image on my RGB monitor to look nice, and that shit filter in mushi gives me a headache.Neon wrote:Is it just me, or does that look like it's scaled and in tate?
Great news all around. Tate so I can play it on my RGB monitor, and scaling to upset all the graphics whores.
Only a few more days now...
