So I got a hori RAP4 kai to play a mix of shmups and casual fighters with, and I picked up an LS-32 for it since I've used those at arcades and know I like them for both types of games. I also ordered a flat mounting plate in case that's what I needed to mod it in.
I don't really know a whole lot about joystick mounting and couldn't find much info about it, but from how the inside is set up, I'd imagine the s-plate is what I should use since the mounts are lowered and the s-plate would put the stick's base closer to the face plate.

So my question is, are LS-32's generally mounted this low under the control panel, so the flat plate is actually what I should use for proper mounting height and the s-plates have another purpose? I'm not sure if I should bother wrestling around trying to find a way to get the s-plate screwed in.
