Mounting an LS-32 into an HRAP4 kai

Post by Yakkers »

I wasn't sure if this was simple enough to post in the "Questions that do not deserve a thread" thread, but I figured the resource might be nice for future people.

So I got a hori RAP4 kai to play a mix of shmups and casual fighters with, and I picked up an LS-32 for it since I've used those at arcades and know I like them for both types of games. I also ordered a flat mounting plate in case that's what I needed to mod it in.

I don't really know a whole lot about joystick mounting and couldn't find much info about it, but from how the inside is set up, I'd imagine the s-plate is what I should use since the mounts are lowered and the s-plate would put the stick's base closer to the face plate.

The hayabusa stick it came with was mounted with a flat plate so I initially popped the LS-32 in with a flat plate and played a few credits with it, but I noticed the hayabusa's shaft is a lot longer so I feel like it being mounted so low under the face plate is alright, but with the LS-32's shorter shaft it's practically just a little stub from the top. I tried putting the s-plate back on and seeing how it fit, and it only lines up to the middle holes and not the corner ones, but only corner holes in the controller are actually threaded so I can't screw into the middle ones.

So my question is, are LS-32's generally mounted this low under the control panel, so the flat plate is actually what I should use for proper mounting height and the s-plates have another purpose? I'm not sure if I should bother wrestling around trying to find a way to get the s-plate screwed in.

I always mount with the middle screw holes. Are you sure they aren't threaded?

Yeah, I can't get a great picture showing it but the corner holes have pretty visible threads machined in and the center hole is just a hole.

I probably just destroyed two of my screws in the process, but I actually managed to forcibly screw them in and get them to catch on something and go down pretty straight. The stick's height looks about right now, so hopefully it stays stable.
