Name confusion.
Name confusion.
I've noticed an increasing number of too similar names. I think someone should chase these people down and force them into picking something more original.
Monkey Man - Mr Monkey Man
ThunderForce - Thunder Force
Brians (except for "Brian" I have a hard time telling who is who, it's just one collective)
Daves (dave4shmups standing out a bit)

Re: Name confusion.
Hmm, regarding the new user who joined recently with the name ThunderForce, I asked him to do something about it to avoid confusion, and I think he added some numbers to the end of it. That seemed OK at the time.Rob wrote:ThunderForce - Thunder Force
Searching - yes THIS is him now.
Generally unless it's a case of impersonation there's nothing wrong with similar names per-se. But if it still confuses the heck out of enough forum members though, he may be asked to change it to something else. I don't think we want to have to police names of new users too much, but we also don't want virtually identical names interfering with communication, so particularly bad cases should be pointed out to us (preferably with links to the users in question)

So, if you change your name, do you keep your post count?
I wonder what kind of things I could do with a name change... ?

That said, changing one's own username was disabled recently, so you'd have to contact an admin for a name change.

I really hope you can tell the difference between me and dave4shmups.
Given that Felix the Cat is long gone and possibly dead or something, perhaps the screen name I used on other message boards, Anti-Felix, can now be used without confusion or controversy.
I would have come up with something more original, but I don't think any other Daves were around when I first came here.

Nope, sorry.uwfan wrote: is there anyway we can get our post counts back from the last board that crashed? if we have the same/similar name?

The only problem I have with similar screennames is if it's two people who don't use avatars, or someone suddenly changes their's. It's hard to adjust when an avatar changes, it's so much worse when you have to figure out which person it is because of near identical screennames.
I'm glad I settled on Señor Tusken Raider. I have no intentions of changing it anytime soon.

I just thought it was weird that the old name is deleted. Maybe the poor new person saw this harrassing thread and asked for it to be deleted/changed.
Yeah, I will drop this avatar when I stop finding it funny (1-2 more days tops) and since I can't find a larger image. I'll probably throw Quaid back in a few days if I don't feel like something else. It's a shame I had to break the streak, though.
