I recently got a Gamecube D-Terminal cable (because I have way too much free time) & a component adapter from Solaris Japan, and was exploring the best way to hook it into my TV, which is some otherwise unremarkable 2013 Vizio E-series.
I rather like the presentation of the GameCube direct to the TV, 480i looks quite nice and 480p upscales cleanly. However, I see a faint cascading "waves of interference" pattern across the screen in 480p, which is noticeable and annoying. I don't see this issue in 480i. I've tried unplugging everything in my setup except GameCube & TV to see if it was an electrical problem and the result is the same.
As a side-note, the pattern doesn't appear if I run the GameCube through my VP30. However, the VP30 adds a little ringing to the image, so it's not quite optimal either.
So I would presume some sort of interference is bothering my video output. Not sure if anyone else has experience with GameCube component/D-Terminal, so I thought I'd ask. (Or maybe it's cable choices? The D-Term > Component adapter isn't what I'd prefer, but it was way cheaper on Ebay than trying to get an original GameCube component cable.) This could just be bad cable hygiene on my part.

... Do you have another set to try it on?

Not at home, but that's a great idea. I'll take it to a friend's house and see if it's just a problem with my setup.

ive read before the you can convert a gamecube D terminal cable into vga.
the advantage would be that the signal will not get processed by your tv.
thats why the GBS 8200 is so popular.
provided your tv has vga of course.

Re: Gamecube D-Terminal > YPrPb interference issue
In the end I was able to try other televisions beside my own (no issue with component/d-terminal there) and also, a separate Wii+Component console into my TV (same issue).
The next thing I did was unplug everything in our living room except for the TV & console, and I still saw the same issue (periodic scrolling waves visible on all-black or light-color backgrounds), apparently this is my first experience with some sort of interference/hum on the component signal.
It seems to either be a product of my television itself or (wild mass guessing?) general circuit line noise in my apartment.
While doing some googling for component+interference+isolation etc., I ended up running into the AA1184 isolator for component & RGB signals:
http://www.cs1.net/products/audio_authority/1184.htm
"Designed to solve the problem of rolling video hum bars caused by AC-line related noise"
I think this might actually be an appropriate remedy to my situation.

AA makes great products. Assuming the noise is not a problem with your set, that might work. Im afraid though, that it most likely is the set.
