The Curse of Issyos (New Locomalito game)

Post by Vexorg »

http://www.locomalito.com/curse_of_issyos.php

Locomalito's latest game has been released today, and looks to be heavily influenced by the old school Castlevanias. As is standard for Locomalito games, it's freeware.

You know I've had Locomalito on my radar for awhile now, although I never got around to playing his games; downloaded this earlier, will probably play it over the break.

While I'm at it, any other games from him in particular I should play? Hydrorah for sure, but anything else?

There's also Maldita Castilla which was well received AFAIK :

L'abbaye des Morts is great if you like the ZX Spectrum feel. Play it late at night in the dark.

Maldita Castilla is my favorite so far. Very good homage to GnG. Play it on a stormy afternoon.

Gaurodan & Verminest 83 are also worth playing if you like classic arcades. Play them when you're sweaty.

Hmm, the website probably is getting slammed...51MB downloads! I'll check out the posters and stuff later :o
Basically everything by Locomalito is good to great. 8 Bit Killers is kind of a throwaway title, though.

Oh cool, didn't expect this one to come out this year. Will give it a try later.

Seconding on what other posters have said, basically all of Locomalito's games are fun. But Maldita Castilla and Hydorah stand out from the rest.

I like it so far, but I'm a bit surprised that it seems to only support the Xbox pad since a few of Locomalito's other games support non-xinput pads.

Game is pretty good. I thought it was going to be a metroidvania but it plays very similar to NES Castlevania. Didn't make it to the end but initial impression is that it isn't as difficult as Castilla.

Ran into a glitch btw. Died on the 2nd boss and as soon as I spawned, I was stuck to the ground and couldn't move anymore.

Can someone with a twitter account show Locomalito the pic above? I can't find an e-mail address anywhere on his site to report it.

Alright, made it to the end. Turns out even an 1cc will give you a bad ending. There's a locked door on stage 4 and you need to find 3 keys throughout the game to open it. Whatever you need to get the good ending is probably inside.

You can buy one key at a store but I have no idea where the other two are.

I need to pick this up again - the chase level gives me trouble (I run out of space / time).

Might be a bit late, but...

The first hidden key is in the first stage, at the wrecked ship. Get on the mast, then jump far towards the left and slash at the sails. The key will fall out.

Don't know where the second key is...

Switch to the sword (there's always a weapon change icon at the very first breakable brick you see on that part), it's faster than the spear so you can easily hack your way through.

Yeah, but even with the sword it's tough going. I just need to put the time in.

There's a key in that organic-ish cave stage, seemed like there were more than two to me.

Ah, that's right, I forgot about that. Yeah, there's an extra key there. So those two plus the one you can buy, and that's that.

Nope, in the cave there are only the three keys needed to beat the level. I actually looked it up on youtube to see where the last one is.
Spoiler
It's inside the Colossus. Shoot an arrow to its hand before it awakens and the key will drop.
