We're all agreed that the Clone Wars CGI cartoon is pretty good by season 2, right?

Haven't seen it because I was too busy watching awful Japanese children's cartoons for the last year.Sly Cherry Chunks wrote:We're all agreed that the Clone Wars CGI cartoon is pretty good by season 2, right?

Re: Star Wars fans - Anyone have a link to the review rebutt
I had a lengthier post written here, but somehow it got swallowed by technology so here's a short version:
The irony is that as soon as someone refutes their laughable notions on the correct, central level, the one they claim is important - their fans' arguments end and they don't know what to say.
Skykid wrote:"The redlettermedia reviews are exceptionally well produced critical analyses on a site that does reviews of movies. The question of 'nerdism' is irrelevant when the content presents a thoughtful and relevant breakdown from a point of objectivity. Were you well versed with RLM and that particular set of reviews, you'd find that it's not just a criticism of 'Star Wars Movies' but a criticism of film in general. There are plenty of enlightening and insightful elements in those reviews that look at pacing, scripting, cinematography, character development, and the general template formula that shoots American commercial movies in the foot over and over. Your rebuttal is assessing the product as a Star Wars movie, but he demonstrates no knowledge of film, making it worthless.
That you keep labelling the Plinkett reviews 'nerdy' and lumping them in the same pot illustrates that you just don't understand them. Being in-depth and accurate (and covering the topic of SW) is not the same as a fanboy who, if YOU read the 108 page diatribe, admits to liking the movie right off the bat, and presents himself as a geeky zit who has nothing better to do than write a tome trying to debunk a review that was written with higher knowledge and wit.
It's unnecessary to read any of his rant beyond the first two pages, which declare well-enough that he has no brain for genuine criticism and instead intends to nitpick and clumsily try to shoot holes in the details while failing to grasp the bigger picture.
With no film appreciation or education on which to base an argument, he comes at the work in question with a massively biased view because he's a Phantom Menace fanboy. One has to ask themselves, considering these facts, why the fuck they'd waste their time."
One thing that fascinates me about this whole thing, this whole debate, is how much the crazy ideologues are attracted to their counterparts with the opposite viewpoint; most notable cases of people arguing against RedLetterMedia tend to be either "nerdy", "fanboys" or head-in-the-clouds art students - thereby confirming RLM's narrative that they're the ones who "understand storytelling" and it takes people trying to force a positive verdict, focusing on tiny details, or writing woolly wide-eyed essays on symbolism to disagree with them or challenge them. It's embarrassing. This thread needs no further discussion, since the only one disagreeing with the consensus can't even read.
The irony is that as soon as someone refutes their laughable notions on the correct, central level, the one they claim is important - their fans' arguments end and they don't know what to say.

Wow this is the most pathetic topic ever.
"Waah some guy bashed movies I'm pretending to hate, someone link me to a rebuttal!" This on a forum he knows is full of unthinking butt-sniffers who hang on reviewer's every word and have spent so long memorizing pink bullet patterns that they can no longer think outside the box.
As proven by the most vocal response being "WAAH nobody should be allowed to disagree with my favorite pet reviewer! You shouldn't even be asking for this document because I don't want you to read it!"
But my favorite is Barnacle Roo who uses "Brony" as an insult. Oh, what's the matter Barney, those pink and purple ponies make your manliness feel threatened? Can't get it up unless the girl is a 16-year-old in a waittress uniform with cat ears? Or maybe you can get it up for kangaroos, since you have one as your avatar.
I've never seen a bigger collection of pathetic in one thread. Everyone who posted here should hang themselves.

Re: Star Wars fans - Anyone have a link to the review rebutt
I was homeschooled and saw Episode 1 and 2 in theaters when I was a kid, without knowing anything about what critics (or anyone else) was saying.
I thought they were pretty boring and bland, especially compared to the original trilogy. Not that I'm a big fan of Star Wars or anything, but 4-6 are at least pretty imaginative, fun, and colorful fantasy.
I'm sure Wasserkopp will say I'm an airhead who's too much of a nerd to appreciate the subtle nuance of the prequel trilogies subtle plotting or something. I dunno, I grew up reading Shakespeare, Dickens, Tolkien, Bradbury, Victor Hugo, etc. and I still read. I think I have an appreciation for more intellectual entertainment, and the prequel trilogy does nothing for me on any level.
But hey, whatever floats your boat.

The guy who uses terms like "autism" and "brony" as a derogatory thinks I'M going too far? If I had to guess, I think you just want me gone because there's no girls--especially outspoken ones who refuse to make you a sandwich--allowed in your man club, especially when they're pointing out your childish behavior. You just can't stand being criticized. Mommy always told you how special you were and you grew up believing it.
But fine, ban me and prove I'm right--that you will gleefully silence any woman who gets out of line.

We've banned at least 5 guys who got out of line recently. I think it would be sexist if the mods didn't treat both genders equally in that respect :3
You've done nothing but wildly insult people since you got here, whilst refusing to actually have any kind of conversation or debate with them. That is not tolerated on this forum, and lots of people have been banned for it, regardless of the subject.
If you want to defend bronies or something (which seems to be the entire purpose of your account), try something like this:
"I don't think there's anything wrong with liking a kids show, even for an adult male to like a girls kids show. Whatever makes you happy is A-Ok, so long as you're not hurting anyone. Some of the strange, overzealous fans who drawn porn of the show and identify themselves based on it are a little weird, but again as long as their not hurting anyone, fine."
There, I just said something rational that 99% of the forum would agree with. And I did it without calling a bunch of people sexist or whatever.
*edit*
Nice ninja delete, Cave Hermit, but I saw that!

Umm, Skykid has never insulted anyone for being autistic or being a brony. BareknuckleRoo has, but I'm willing to bet he was going through a rough patch at the time and its not something he'd do normally.DunlapDunlap wrote:The guy who uses terms like "autism" and "brony" as a derogatory thinks I'M going too far?
He also didn't say you were "going too far." He said you were being stupid. There's a difference.
And really, you are. You seem like one of those "women" (and I'm still not entirely convinced you ARE a woman) whose whole personality revolves around proving that the world is out to get you, the kind who watches Lifetime movies, Nostalgia Chick reviews, and Anita Sarkeesian videos to inform your worldview that every non-female (and I would suspect, even some females) are part of some vast conspiracy to keep you in the kitchen. I knew someone at TV Tropes who was just like you.... you might have better luck on that website, as the person I'm thinking of was actually taken rather seriously despite being just like you in every way.
Also, dude(tte)... you told us all to kill ourselves, so you have no place calling out anyone else's "patheticness."

Yeah, Skykid's opinion (as always) are pretty level headed on the subject. He thinks it's unusual but theirs no crime in it for a grown man to like MLP, but thinks the fandom is an interesting example of how communities of niche taste form.
The only thing I really adamantly disagree with him about is the quality of Hardcorps Uprising, heheheh.

Squire, I wouldn't even be talking about bronies here if that kangaroo guy hadn't brought them up out of nowhere in an earlier post.
Besides if you had understood my topic on the subject, I actually said I hated bronies because I can't stand the hypocrisy of claiming to like a girl's show and yet they actually only like the parts they can twist and make out to be masculine, going even so far as to pressure the studio into making it more of a boy's action show. If anything, anti-bronies come off as better because they at least are honest that they are offended by the girly parts, rather than pretending to like it but then trying to have those parts removed.
But even though that's what I said, nobody got it. Everyone for some stupid reason thought I was talking about acceptance. I guess that's what I get for using words and not pink bullet curtains to convey my message.
Edmond Dantes, wow. These guys spend the whole topic giving you a hard time just for wanting to see a review of a review, and you jump to their defense. You're like one of those abuse victims that litter the southern states, who take beating after beating but convince themselves that its love. It's awe-inspiring. I thought for once I could reason with you and get you to see my point of view, but no, I guess your head is far too far up Skykid's ass.
I actually know the guy who wrote this rebuttal. He's a college professor, a well-respected one, and yet Skykid dismisses his intelligence just because he disagreed with a review that was blatantly horrible and spent more time showing the reviewer as a rapist (likely the real reason redlettermedia is popular at all) than actually discussing the movie. By the way, said professor actually studied film. Redlettermedia? No qualifications whatsoever. And you're still taking Skykid's side?
Well, I hope you two are happy together! Don't forget me when you send out wedding invitations.

He brought them up because Edmond wrote an MLP fan fiction about Skykid.DunlapDunlap wrote:Squire, I wouldn't even be talking about bronies here if that kangaroo guy hadn't brought them up out of nowhere in an earlier post.
You hate bronies, yet you take extreme issue with the thought that someone should use the term as an insult? You also brought up how your son was bullied for liking the show. We can all agree that bullying is wrong and that it's totally okay for a little boy to like MLP, nobody is arguing otherwise. It sounded like you were trying to defend bronies or defend liking the show or something at that point, but you're preaching to the choir because nobody here really feels that strongly about whatever flavor of the month fanbase is making noise these days.DunlapDunlap wrote: Besides if you had understood my topic on the subject, I actually said I hated bronies because I can't stand the hypocrisy of claiming to like a girl's show and yet they actually only like the parts they can twist and make out to be masculine, going even so far as to pressure the studio into making it more of a boy's action show. It's another internet fad, really. Nothing to get upset about. Today it's bronies, tomorrow it'll be Undertale. After that it'll be some other game or anime or who cares.

You do know you just jumped into a pretty ancient thread that had no purpose being revived, took one glance and started swinging sweeping insults and making appraisals of character without having any understanding of the thread's history, the context, the subject matter in question, or the history of its posters (therefore failing to understand most of their references)?DunlapDunlap wrote:The guy who uses terms like "autism" and "brony" as a derogatory thinks I'M going too far? Why you talking about "intellectual entertainment" all of a sudden? And by the way Tolkien isn't "intellectual entertainment", unless of course you delve into all those worldbuilding things that were a result of Tolkien's own education.Squire Grooktook wrote:I was homeschooled and saw Episode 1 and 2 in theaters when I was a kid, without knowing anything about what critics (or anyone else) was saying.

But the story itself is made out of the same cloth as Star Wars, nor is it a "more complex form" in addition to being detailed thanks to the formal.
"Boring and bland" doesn't interest me, only statements with some pretense of being "the accurate ones" - like the one I quoted originally

Of course the guy that wrote thinks the thread had "no purpose being revived"

Also, wrong premise for your already nonsense conclusion: the "near universally reviled" part is a hilarious error on your part - the reception has always been, averaging out to somewhat above average; it's only secluded cultists on different forums thinking their laughable opinions are actually shared by the entire globe.
What, those actually got poasted? I was talking to a mod and he said nothing showed in the logs... -You signed up on a forum purely to defend a movie, so you probably think highly of the movie.
-Most people in their right mind not would write several posts that took me 5 whole minutes to rapid scroll through holy fucking shit if they didn't have some considerable interest in it.
-Most people would not bother defending something so vehemently, even if they liked it, if it were just a fire-and-forget popcorn film.
Based on these, it seemed a fair starting assumption that you thought there was some nuance and depth to the films which justified all this. And that if anyone attacked them on any note that didn't involve extensive analysis of pacing, plot, character development, motivation, etc. etc. you'd brush it aside.
Regardless of intellectual depth or whatever semantics you want to argue about, I really don't know why anybody would waste all that time posting all that, and continuing to argue about it, despite apparently having no interest in any other subject related to this site.
This actually reminds me of the time I was doing some googling and happened upon a thread where people were bashing a game I liked. I was almost tempted to sign up and offer some counter-arguments, but in the end, it ended up being one of those "who gives a fuck" type of things.

Wow, you really got a whole bunch of things wrong there, haven't you:

Not sure what you mean by "fire and forget" - but of course Star Wars, being something like the most iconic franchise in pop culture, isn't really in the business of being "forgotten", or "fired" for that matter.
And that initial situation, combined with some controversy, creates a film series with the most amount of horse trash written about it - the appeal of dismantling some of that should be instinctively obvious.

Regardless of such particulars, I represent reason and obviously oppose the lack thereofSquire Grooktook wrote: Basically goes like this:

Well, if they're gonna claim intellectual superiority based on their extenive analysis, they'd better be prepared for that - the community on the RLM board, despite being the smuggest of them all, naturally was completely unable to.And that if anyone attacked them on any note that didn't involve extensive analysis of pacing, plot, character development, motivation, etc. etc. you'd brush it aside.

Re: Star Wars fans - Anyone have a link to the review rebutt
I just signed up for this thread and related ones I found afterwards, cause there was a lot of stuff I thought required a response - wasn't particularly planning on insulting people, not sure where I did either.
Can't exclude spreading out to other threads if I find them interesting, though...
PS: I refuse being put on one level with Dunlap, I'm making reasoned points here not arbitrarily ranting about oppression.

Skykid I did indeed click on your profiles to learn your history. What I saw shocked and appalled me. A history of you three stalking, attacking and harrassing each other that even expanded off-forum and into the realm of death threats and attacks on friends and family members who had no relation to the original disagreement... which was over a computer game, from what I could uncover.
I have never stalked anyone.
I have never made a death threat.
I have never attacked people just for knowing people I hate.
And when I got mad, it sure as fuck wasn't over internet reviews or computer games. In fact the last person I truly hated was a pedophile who tried to get close to my daughter.
Yet you and Edmond insist on putting yourselves on a moral pedestal over me. You are both sick fucks. I wouldn't be surprised if you were both criminals of some sort. That would explain why you adamantly want guns banned. Likely some little girl fought you off with one and that burns you so bad.
So now I'm in danger of being banned. I guess I must be hitting a nerve, considering these mods seem to let far worse behavior fly on a constant basis. Fine! Enjoy your Men's Psychopathia Club! Don't let me put a damper on your high spirits! I'm only a successful mom, after all. I have the suspicion I'm the only one here who has ever been inside a college building.

You slipped up there. Absolutely confirmed for troll, and almost guaranteed to have been someone with a previous account on here - there's no way you could have or would have bothered digging through my post history to find previous discussions between us, and there's absolutely nothing that occurred off-forum (especially not from me, because I don't go off-forum).
Basically you've been here before. Nice try though.

I actually really like the sound of that. Can we make this Off Topic's new name?DunlapDunlap wrote:Men's Psychopathia Club!

That's fine. Just remember, there's a fine line between cultured debate and flamebaiting, and whichever a post gets interpreted as largely depends on my mood.Wasserkopp wrote:I just signed up for this thread and related ones I found afterwards, cause there was a lot of stuff I thought required a response - wasn't particularly planning on insulting people, not sure where I did either.

We've had more than enough stupidity here lately without random new people signing up and making it worse.
Speaking of which…
You're not hitting a nerve. I'm just amused at how pompous and self-righteous you are for apparently being a "successful mom" - one that's apparently bored enough to read all 15,000+ posts of a community member's posting history, as well as doing some cyber-stalking of your own, though it seems you're not particularly good at it. Shouldn't you be actually doing something useful?DunlapDunlap wrote:So now I'm in danger of being banned. So let me help you with that. You're now permanently banned. Now you have all the time in the world to continue being successful! :V
I do admit I found the fantasy of Skykid and co. having their personal battles off-forum descending into stalking etc absolutely hilarious and almost worthy of fanfiction, however. Unless there's something you're not telling us, Skykid?

Never happened.
Actually I'm cool with Edmond, we just like being dicks to each other from time to time. And he's the only one guilty of Fanfic.
I bear no grudges with anyone (apart from Friendly of course).
