NEO GEO CDZ (Using 100V JPN power supply in 120V USA outlet)

Post by RetroGame❤ »

So sorry guys if this has been asked a million times!
However, in case opinions have changed or people have specific usage experience to share, I figured I'd ask anyway...

Basically, do I really need to step down 20 volts? If it's necessary or even strongly recommended, I'll do it, but it seems a bit trivial.

I've heard some folks say that SNK used the same 120V-tolerant power brick for JP and the US and just slapped a new rating sticker on it to save money.
This could be wishful thinking, though, so I just wanted to see what others here think.

On such an expensive console I don't see why you'd risk it at all... Spend another $50 on a converter- the wattage rating doesn't need to be very high so you don't need an amazing industrial one- you can use for it and any more imports in the future.

I wouldn't get a converter, I'd get a new power brick that meets the voltage and amperage specs on the original...

I've used Japanese PSUs for years and never had an issue, it should be fine to use.

I've never had an issue with mine. I've had a CDZ since the late 90s.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?
