H. Ford is actually a modern Sisyphus.

Well, it wouldn't be a Blade Runner sequel without Mr. Ford in it, would it?
So if we go by the BR Final Cut version of the film, Deckard is a Replicant but in the original 1982 theatrical version, he's human. Therefore, if Deckard's role returns in this newfangled sequel, is he considered a human or rather, a Replicant? Hmmm...it certainly does bring/raise up a whole new set of questions that need answers in regarding this BR2 sequel, indeed.
Makes me wonder if the Gaff character will be making a cameo/guest (or returning) appearance as well?
And will the weaponry of a future-day Blade Runner be upgraded or still remain the same (as it was back in 2019)?
If Eldon Tyrell is already dead (as shown in the 1st BR flick), then whom is the head-honcho running the Tyrell Corporation in this sequel (possibly one of his heirs)?
There was one unfilmed scene in BR of where Roy kills Tyrell and then the camera pans to an underground scene of the "real" Tyrell is in cyrogenic sleep (leading the audience to fill in the blanks and make sense of it all). WTF!? Of course, the movie studio didn't give Mr. Scott the necessary budget to film this particular eyebrow-raising scene as intended but it was rather axed (as being too expensive to create the lavish sets to do so).
A high-speed chase involving police spinners and a stolen spinner would make for a good action scene in this sequel, right? (This was never explored/mentioned in the 1st BR film anyways).

Yes, let's say Deckard is the bio-replicant prototype that was used to develop Tyrell's own copy.

That's an interesting premise if the sequel ends up going that route...I doubt it though. I'd expect to see/behold the usual lavish set pieces set within the BR universe to move the story/sequel along -- nothing less than that "high bar" for an already high-caliber sci-fi film as it is. If this sequel does take place some 30 years later, then it'd be 2049 or thereabouts (making for a very different future/overall visual style/flair nevertheless with the humans/Replicants dynamics/storyline).
When BR made it's theatrical debut in the USA back in December of 1982, there were accounts of one or two people in the entire theater watching it (the rest was empty seats at best) -- it bombed big time at the U.S. box office during it's initial theatrical run.

The flop of BR is told in the long documentary as well. There's one guy who worked on the movie sharing his experience of it being a flop like only a week or 2 after release and being one of 3 people in the theater. I'm excited for a sequel, but I'm pretty sure it will be some sort of watered down action oriented sequel. Unless there's tons of info I've not heard about pertaining to the sequel.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:That's an interesting premise if the sequel ends up going that route...I doubt it though. I'm more optimistic. There's no way it's going to be another cult classic, but I'd believe Scott is well aware he can't screw up, not with that one.lilmanjs wrote:I'm excited for a sequel, but I'm pretty sure it will be some sort of watered down action oriented sequel.

So Ford will be an old detective partnered with the younger Gosling, similar to Freeman and Pitt in Seven, showing him the ropes on how to spot a replicant.
"I've been doing this a long time kid. Seen a lot of weird stuff."
I can see it. The question is, can Scott?

How else can you see Gosling and Ford paired? Ford is old, I have a feeling he won't be reprising the action aspect of his role, but there has to be an action aspect, unless Scott can manage to muster even a flicker of the artistic abilities he used to have, which is doubtful.Xyga wrote:Erg. not that scenario, please.
Gosling could be a replicant in Batty's shoes, not sure.

Well let's all hope and pray that he doesn't make a pig's ear of it as he did with Prometheus.

Check out this link for a cool Blade Runner sequel poster -- I am not sure if this will be the official BR poster used for the upcoming BR sequel though (perhaps Warner Bros. has an official BR sequel theatrical poster in the works -- this seems more likely/possible). This poster certainly fits the bill as a subtle nod to the replicant owl shown in 1982 cult classic film in one key & memorable scene. In the original '82 BR theatrical release, the owl was portrayed as being a real owl (considering that Mr. Eldon Tyrell could very easily afford such a real one if he so desired when it was cheaper to manufacture a replicant version for sale worldwide due to the worldwide acid rain pollution and whatnot affecting real animals and their eventual decline/death).

And if you have an "eagle eye" for detail, you'll see the cool Weyland-Yutani logo in miniature form within this particular poster itself. How cool is that? So what does happen in the year 2054 within the BR universe/timeline?

I don't think he's past it. He's a visual director and needs to be tied down to a good script. Blade Runner had a great script and was realized with Scott's visual splendour, Legend didn't have a very good script and was realized with Scott's visual splendour.MintyTheCat wrote:Well let's all hope and pray that he doesn't make a pig's ear of it as he did with Prometheus.

Are they going to bring back Harrison Ford on his continuing tour of playing tired old man versions of all his iconic roles? I can't wait for American Graffiti 2!

And how was Prometheus in your opinion? I remember wanting my cash back - what a complete waste of a perfect opportunity, it was shit. He had it when he was active in the 70s and 80s in my book.Mischief Maker wrote:I don't think he's past it. He's a visual director and needs to be tied down to a good script. We all have our hey day and most of us lose our potency over time.
I agree, he's a visual guy; he has an art background and it shows. I am biased but I think the directors with art backgrounds are some of the best as they just have this ability to work with detail and nuance.
Let's see how he does with this but I am not expecting much - which is exactly the way these films should be taken these days. I cannot recall the last time I saw anything mainstream that had any value.
Remind me on: what is the Tannhäuser Gate again? I have not read the book for many years and it escapes me.

Yes, it has a sort of "70s tech" thing going on. I liked how they did the industrial designs in the original film and its nod to Hard SciFi.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:Check out this link for a cool Blade Runner sequel poster -- I am not sure if this will be the official BR poster used for the upcoming BR sequel though (perhaps Warner Bros. has an official BR sequel theatrical poster in the works -- this seems more likely/possible). Mind you, having said that, the Owl design as an icon is a bit too 'obvious' they should use something more involved and subtle I would say I realise that they have to hit the audience over the head with a hammer these days to 'get through' though and help bring people up to speed.
Makes you wonder: if you could have a real woman would you have one if you could have a handful of replicant women - I dare say the same thing goes for replicated animals. But if you were Tyrell would the ego in you not want to show your intellectual wealth and pioneering spirit by having a replicated Owl that was 'better than the real thing' and 'so authentic you cannot tell'? I think he would opt to have the replicant Owl and keep a 'copy' of the real thing just in case.
I want to see them playing go in the new film instead of Chess

Beautiful visuals, shit script. If Scott writes BR2 it'll be terrible. If an actually talented writer does the script it could be good.MintyTheCat wrote:And how was Prometheus in your opinion?
Oh shit, did I just say, "talented writer" outside the indie scene? Bwahahahahahaa!

You don't know that.[1] Because he's never written anything in his entire life.Mischief Maker wrote:If Scott writes BR2 it'll be terrible.
Scott doesn't deserve much of the kudos he gets. He's not a bar raiser like James Cameron. Warp time and space so that David Fincher directed Alien instead, it'd be pretty much the same movie.
Shit, TV series have an infinitely rotating lineup of directors. You have to be REALLY into something, to be able to tell them apart without looking at the credits. It's really weird how the guy who decides where to set the camera has been romanticized as a randian superhero worthy of worship.
[1] Well, unless you happen to be a connoisseur of Boy and Bicycle, unlike the rest of us who have no idea what the hell that is.
Re: It's official, Ridley Scott to do a 2nd Blade Runner fli
I'm just going to wait until 2028 to watch it. That way, I can choose between dozens of versions of the movie.
Frankly, I would rather have another Blade Runner adventure game.

Cameron is a working-writer: he can deliver on a time limit, that is a skill.BryanM wrote:You don't know that.[1] Because he's never written anything in his entire life.Mischief Maker wrote:If Scott writes BR2 it'll be terrible.

But yes, writing is a large subject area and indeed directing is one seperate area of expertise too. You may find sometimes that you have writer-directors but it is often a function of plans and budget. Most of the time there are directives put in place by the ones who fund a film about who does what and how much can be paid to a certain member of the film team so often it is out of their hands.
Writers in this sort of media are paid to put the stuff out and do it on a time limit.

What is Scott thinking!
I mean, its not money, right? That Prometheus disgrace and now this? Maybe its a fear of impending death?
And Ford is on board too? Fuck me! What a state of affairs.
Calling it now; the fucking carpenter is going to persuade the mad director to let Deckard be killed-off a la Han Solo, for the glory and just to piss people off (like he did Lucas).

Maybe he thinks it's something fans want, like the Ash vs Evil Dead tv series? It's not like this is an act of terror.
It's hard to say he's desperate for senpai to notice him again, considering The Martian was received well. .. .. Unless the senpai in question is Mr.Ford.

That seems to describe Scott's entire career this past couple of decades, or perhaps his career overall, since his best films appear to be an exception to the rule in question.Mischief Maker wrote:Beautiful visuals, shit script.
