Awesome stuff you've just bought (+pics please)
Re: Awesome stuff you've just bought (+pics please)
It would be junk to me without RGB. A paper weight.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?
Re: Awesome stuff you've just bought (+pics please)
It just depends what you want.
Personally, I'm a gamer first, so I want the most convenient way to play Mega Drive and Mega CD games with awesome picture quality on a great looking system. So adding RGB to the Wondermega was a no-brainer for me. (Mine uses the S-video out, I think it's the least invasive mod.)
If you want a collectible in its original immaculate state, then you're not gonna want to mod it, obviously.

^ I understand you guys. It's just I have an RGB MD, an RGB SFC, 2 RGB modded PCE's, an RGB modded N64 etc.
This is one I feel I don't need to mod just for MCD. I appreciate it would be nice, but I just haven't the balls to have the thing tampered with in any way. I've opted to keep in its original format.

Re: Awesome stuff you've just bought (+pics please)
I don't think it's got anything to do with that really. For me it's dealing with high value videogame hardware, and if I were ever in a position where I wanted to sell, I want to get the best return possible. Modding something like a Wondermega is just a no no when you have to bear in mind that most people buying these things nowadays are going to be collectors. I suppose an unboxed less than pristine example, wouldn't matter all that much... I don't know what condition you WM is in.Strider77 wrote:I've never been a sealed in box kinda guy.
Now, I am a gamer, not a collector, but I always ensure I do what I can to protect the value of high end purchases. I call it being prudent.
I look forward to setting my Wondermega up next to my Saturn and Regulation 7 Dreamcast once I've moved house and playing some Sonic CD

I've been out of the loop, but I've never heard of a hard RGB mod lowering the value of a console.Tarma wrote: Now, I am a gamer, not a collector, but I always ensure I do what I can to protect the value of high end purchases. I call it being prudent.

I dare say that it is more to do with a collector wanting an item in the 'just off the assembly line' condition.GaijinPunch wrote:I've been out of the loop, but I've never heard of a hard RGB mod lowering the value of a console.Tarma wrote: Now, I am a gamer, not a collector, but I always ensure I do what I can to protect the value of high end purchases. It may be that it is all about having something that as the years go by becomes harder to find.
For me personally I keep my consoles and software in very good condition but I am not what I would call a serious collector. I find the whole collecting thing these days has gone to some people's heads and that is sometimes all that they think about and they miss out on playing the games.
One of my PCE machines had an RGB mod when I got it and to do that a hole was made in the side and that most certainly would lower the value in the eyes of some.

Re: Awesome stuff you've just bought (+pics please)
I suppose in most cases it wouldn't, but a Wondermega isn't exactly a machine to be found in abundance.GaijinPunch wrote:I've been out of the loop, but I've never heard of a hard RGB mod lowering the value of a console.Tarma wrote: Now, I am a gamer, not a collector, but I always ensure I do what I can to protect the value of high end purchases. Plus, if all you wanted to do was just play carts and CD's you'd purchase a standard Mega Drive & Mega CD for a lot less, and have change for games and no need to mod for RGB!

Re: Awesome stuff you've just bought (+pics please)
Some stuff I got.
2 games for cheap ( also a huge plus since Richard Sherman is on the cover! Love my home town Seahawks!!). some new music (Kottonmouth Kings and Three Six Mafia) And a new pair of silicone tunnels.

My monthly TacPack of gun stuff.

And some legal (In my state anyway) fun times stuff for the weekend. Local shop had a Halloween sale. And alcohol infused root beer.

Got my copy of Breach & Clear, and a card game I backed on kickstarter

Also got a copy of P4DAN launch edition, and 3 Vita game case protectors.

This is exactly the machine I'd use as an example. I had a Duo-R and Duo-RX RGB modded... they always sell/sold for more than the street price. One of my PCE machines had an RGB mod when I got it and to do that a hole was made in the side and that most certainly would lower the value in the eyes of some.
Indeed, but it's not all that rare either. Not in abundance is probably a good term for it... but as stated, I think the collecting has gone a bit nuts. I'd probably think "do I want to spend a lot of money on something that I'm not going to use b/c the picture quality is inferior"?I suppose in most cases it wouldn't, but a Wondermega isn't exactly a machine to be found in abundance.
...it's been a while since I've debated anything like this. I kind of miss being a huge dork.

To be honest I think the PC Engine puts out a pretty decent picture through the xrgb mini using the standard pack-in AV leads.GaijinPunch wrote:This is exactly the machine I'd use as an example. Wondermega standard AV is shit. Waiting to try it through S-Video, but in the middle of moving house at the moment and it's packed away.
When I get unpacked and stuff I'll be glad to have a dorky debate over standard output to RGB mod

Re: Awesome stuff you've just bought (+pics please)
Reminds me of the time when I got FIFA11 for the Wii, bundled with a Wii game I did want. I finally managed to sell the former off the other day, as a bundle with Mario Kart Wii. Kept the wheel (thus inevitably reducing the price I've got, since even the Mario Kart Wii buyers appear to agree the wheel accessory was the best thing about that game) as one of those things Nintendo keeps doing rather well. Did you know the wheel was re-issued as a Wii U/MK8 accessory? I doubt anybody prefers to play MK this way, but it makes for a neat Wiimote holder under certain circumstances.

Philips Brilliance 202P4 22" (a wee touch darker than I hoped for the price, but the most high-end VGA CRT I've owned to date nonetheless).

I’ve been going a little nuts on a G-Shock kick lately. Been customizing some of these ‘square’ models, pretty addictive

More shit I really don't need.
The BBC Office $7 at Half Price Books
Season 5 of Mad Men BluRay $15 at Half Price Books

Kingdom of Paradise $4 at Half Price Books
Persona 3 Portable $15 but had a 50% off coupon for Half Price Books so it was $7.50
Fate Tiger Colosseum $4 at Half Price Books. No clue what it is and its an import but it was cheap so why not.

All Games below were $20 each but had a $10 off coupon so total was $50.

Nice Valks. Have you seen Bandai's upcoming 1/35 VF-1J per chance? Got rivets and everything. Pending price, And whether its transformable or not, think i'm going to need it if just to have a slightly more appropriate scaled Valkyrie to stand next to my Yamato 1/24 Ingram.

As good a place as any to restate using L3 for dash in Blood Will Tell is NOT recommended (use double tap instead; it must be manually enabled in options).

Some more DECO and Puyo for the Megadrive.
What do you guys think of the control schemes for Midnight Resistance? So far, it seems A is for awesome and B is for bad. I tried the different variations of B, but they all seem to rotate in only one direction. It doesn't work as well as the Forgotten Worlds scheme. A is the point and aim method with a button for holding the fire position and seems to work best.
