Woohoo, return of the old topic!

How about that ending theme music of R-Type Final US version? That made me "WTF? What asshole's idea was it to put this shit in here?"
Really... I thought screwing around with localisation to that extent went out in the 80's.

Another WTF moment for Mars Matrix. Gigantic teapots? WTF?? What's next? Gigantic TEABAGS?

Thats all I can think of right now...
Oh God this is scary. XS Games should be dragged out into the street and shot with R-Types Giga-wave cannon on Full Charge:

No shit? Man, I would never have guessed that Philosoma could have anything in it that would impress me. I have to beat it now just to see WTF you're talking about.

I know what you mean man. The music was really abnormal, but still cool as hell IMO. It made me feel like I was in between dimensions or something :?. Actually that whole entire level kinda creeped me out. WTF was up with those shadow images of the man and women in the background? WTF was that all about?

I dont think I've ever had a what the fuck moment.

Maybe trying to figure out what the hell the pilot is on during the first stage of rtype final. Why does he/she fly upside down and all over the place!?

The first time I saw the second stage boss in Ikaruga and thought to myself "How the hell am I supposed to do that?" Probably my favorite boss fight ever.
Feedback will set you free.

Definitely guwange. And also the way the Galaga sequels just ask you if you want a double ship ? That was an anticlimatic WTF right from the start.

The first time I saw the stage 5 boss in Gradius V(Blaster Cannon Core) was definitely my WTF moment. Never seen anything like that in a Gradius game.

Most Treasure shooters are a cavalcade of WTF moments...that's practically the philosophy the games are designed on.

In an interview, the game's developers state it was their idea, and they tried to choose something that sounded like R-Type.

All the bosses after stage 4 looked like they belonged in Ikaruga, but were too hard, so they stripped them of black-and-white sections, rotated them 90 degress counter-clockwise, and stuck them in Gradius V.

Every single boss at that point (stage 5 and up) elicited a "...no fucking way..." from my mouth.

OOer, don't expect anything life-changing of course. It was like 10 years ago, mind you, and it was japanese, one of the first games on PSX I had, and I was bedazzled by the cinematic and dramatic cut of the game - I don't think I'd go WTF now, but at the time I was really enthralled. Cmon, a shmup - with a real plot! WTF?? :D
Alas, Ikaruga is going...

Undesired, unwanted them...
What makes them go?

God:

Sexy Parodius: stage 1, IT'S A FLYING CORN!
Metal Black: some of the most weirdest backgrounds ever!
Darius: I'm shooing fish!
The Striker series: Bosses turning into weird ass robots!
Fire Shark: Seeing the people on the ground.

Wow. that's slightly worse than Treasure claiming their Gamecube port of Ikaruga was a "superior version". Or however they put it.

As for the Blue Man Group track... I thought it would have made better music for stage 1, since stage 1 didn't have music.

Another wtf moment: playing Shikigami no Shiro for the first time, and hearing the stage 1 music-- which sounds like a rejected track from The Addams Family or The Munsters, take your pick.

Some levels in Darius Gaiden had me feeling like I was on acid, the backgrounds I mean. The first time I got to the boss with the psychadelic background and the odd Chinese pop tune going, I said WTF kinda game is this! I went on to enjoy the rest of the game, but that right there just took me by suprise. Even my younger brother was like .

And I'll never forget my first impression of the last level in Giga Wing. I couldn't believe the amount of bullets that were coming at me. It was, and still is, unreal. I was seeing blue and pink bullets in my dreams!

getting to the stage 4 boss of mobile light force and having him just sit there in his final form. having had a lot of time with ps2 gunbird i was all pumped for a fight but diue to the terrible porting the ship just floats to the left and sits there waiting to be shot. also in the same game on one of the first random stages a ship flies across the background and then totally fails to appear again....

how did they get away with this??

The enterance of the first boss on Psyvarier 2 is spectacular to say the least.
The walker on Axelay was impressive way back when.
R-Type's battleship of course.
And the first time I played Giga Wing (my first manic) full stop.

Yes! That was quite nearly my response when I saw it on the attract mode. Then when I popped in a quarter & got the weapon the first time I was equally impressed.

The first time I saw the "skull" bomb in Truxton/Tatsujin. Awesome.

I've been playing R-Type Delta for the past few days (trying to beat the game with all three types), and I've already beaten the game with R9 and Rx and seen their endings. But I just beat the game with R13, and I'd like to know WTF is up with R13's ending? It's way different from the other ones. As soon as I beat the Bydo Core, the R13 worped into another dimension or something, instead of escaping and docking at the space station. And while the credits are rolling, it takes you through some weird, dark alien looking place, finally showing the R13 stuck inside of this egg looking thing at the end. It's trippy as hell. Anybody know WTF is up with this? I'm just curious.

Anyone notice this...

Near the beginning of Ikaruga, in Chapter 1, while you're shooting the first few waves of popcorn enemies (after the Chapter 1 screen is displayed) the large, tank-like enemies floating in the background have the wrong color auras-- whereas white usually goes with blue and black goes with orange, there was a white ship with an orange aura, and a dark ship with a blue aura.

Kinda wtf'd me when i first noticed it.

- Playing Strikers 1999 for a month, then watching a replay of it and seeing someone do a tech-bonus. (I had no idea you could do that)

- Seeing the boss in Sexy Parodius with the big nutsack.

- The 6th level of Gradius V (honestly never thought I'd pass it when I started playing that game).

- Seeing a replay of someone finishing DDP and DDP:DOJ.

And the fifth boss is THE SHIP YOU WERE USING IN THUNDERFORCE 4 WITH AN OMINOUS VERSION OF THE THUNDERFORCE 4 ATTRACT MUSIC PLAYING AS YOU WERE FIGHTING IT. That really shocked me the first time I saw that happening.

Oh, and this is the war the United States doesn't want us to know about. :D

LOL, that's gold, dude.

Man... Americans never cease to amaze with their crappy cover art... there are no words... I just don't understand, and don't think I want to. Just shows you, "art" doesn't have to be Serrano's "Piss Christ" to be offensive :P Just, ew.

wouldn't go as far as calling them wtf moments, but in a similar vein -

the boss in Silpheid that has these circular hand extending things that can slap you flat

the 'monkey' boss in Battle Garegga that has long arms that seem to plant things that become cannons

the boss in level 1 Star Soldier thats a big greenish head that splits into four then reforms

and yes - the Bydo sac in RTF level 2

the bit in Mr. Heli that is in the dark! even weirder when you manage to get thru it

what sounds like a cat noise in character-select music in Shiki 2
