Hey guys,
I'm having an issue with my Sony PVM-D20L5A. When the screen goes completely white, the image will get out of sync and the monitor will turn off and on again. I am using a PAL Gamecube RGB SCART cable from retrogamingcables, and have this problem with both my PAL Gamecube and RGB modded PAL N64. I believe it may have something to do with the monitor not accepting composite video as sync since this problem does not occur when I use a csync video cable, such as my csync Mega Drive cable. This issue doesn't occur at all on my smaller PVM-14M4A. This problem also doesn't occur on the D20L5A when I use my Gamecube component cables (i.e. I can view the out of sync image on the D20 just fine with the component cables).
Here is a video of the problem (sorry for vertical video!) https://youtu.be/yywxGhe4XQU
My question is can I rectify this problem by using a sync stripper in line (by getting a SCART to BNC with a sync stripper built in)?
Thanks!

Re: Sync problem with PVM-D20L5A
I had a similar issue in the past. My sync and/or RGB levels were too high so I solved by putting resistors in-line with those signals. If it was a sync issue, it would happen all the time and not intermittently when the white level is at peak. A white (or a flash) image drives the highest signal level and that's why it's only happening at that time.

Thanks for the response. That seems like a very plausible cause and I'll be sure to try it with some resistors in line. Do you remember what ohm rating you used? Also would this cause the brightness on the picture to be darker? I wouldn't want to make it too dark since the cable works fine on my PVM-14M4A.noonan2678 wrote:I had a similar issue in the past. Bumping to see if anyone has some extra opinions. Took apart the cable and it has a black insulation around the caps inside the SCART head so I'm not too sure how to work around that. Would I add resistors before or after the caps?
