I have been searching for an RGB monitor for a good 5 years now. Being fed up with transcoders and scalers (well cheap ones....aside from the CGA to VGA board w/ a sync strike which seems decent on some displays). I just can not find them for a decent price because I live in the middle of Bumblefuck, USA specifically southern Michigan hours from anywhere. not to sound complainy but 1 RGB monitor crossed my path in my entire life...and that was back 10 or so years ago when I found a Magnavox monitor which had an RGB input. No knowing what I had, I gave it to my brother who ruined it. Found it in my brother's storage unit after he passed, the tube was toast and the unit was sticky.
I have a feeling I am doing it wrong. I have access to two craigslist areas (Fort Wayne and Jackson), rarely anything comes up. I search for "Monitor" and "CRT", and rarely does a PVM or any kind of 15khz monitor come up, when they do...the seller knows what they have and wants upwards of $500+ firm for a monitor with an abundance of hours, cracks in the screen, knicks non-working inputs (saw one a year ago, the seller wanted $700 for a 5 inch, the red input did not work). The local salvation army has my number when ever they get a CRT in (they aren't supposed to take them, so they call me), and they call me regularly. Through them for $5 I got a very nice 29 inch CRT TV from 2006 which has a myriad of inputs including Component. I have been using this with S-Video and Component.
But I would really like to get an RGB monitor. I know patience is a virtue, Rome wasn't built in a day, etc...but yea....any tips on finding one for a decent price?
here is an example one I found nearby, 60 miles away.

So yea.....lets have this be a RGB monitor location tips thread. Alternatives, etc.

Re: In search of a RGB monitor
That PVM is incredibly overpriced. Below 20" isn't very desirable.
I have a spare PVM-20L2, though it's got a tiny mark on the monitor. I could let you have it, if you want (I'm in Battle Creek).
I got my 20L2s from a business in Cleveland. Check out auctions like Public Surplus, Dovebid, and local classifieds / craigslist.
By the way, keep an eye out for other brands: Mitsubishi, NEC, JVC, Ikegami are a few good ones.

I'll talk to you about that over PM.
