where is this information? All I can see from news sept-oct are two vapourware titles being removed from the upcoming dc games list.

As for this game....I guess I have nothing to say. Haven't seen anything at all.
The only announcement about there being no more DC games past September of 2005 was made by Recap, who never backed up that statement with an official declaration by Sega.

Simple fact: the Dreamcast is rapidly becoming the next Neo-Geo.

I loved the original Shienryu, though that may have a lot to do with its similarity to Raiden.

I took some pics/videos of PinkSweets and Exelica which can be found here (scroll to the bottom for the videos). I was planning to write a little story with impressions etc. but I need to get some sleep. So take a look at this stuff and go back tomorrow for more details, if you wish.

In brief: I love PinkSweets and I am sorta indifferent to Exelica.

Awesome Dreamcast cover of Trigger Heart Exelica Kron!

Post by Maikeru_Rocks »

Trigger Heart Exelica looks freaking awesome i can't and hope or cross my fingers that Warashi will announce a Dreamcast version of their shoot'em up masterpiece. It's good to see and read and be part of sites like Shmups.com , Dreamcast-Scene.com and those that follow for all the great feedback on the Dreamcast. Being A Dreamcast fanatic and my prize collection of Arcade-to-Dreamcast ports. This system can't and will never be beat no doubt. LONG LIVE THE CAST!

Nice comment, but really, blame Arika. Cave approached them about a Mushi port and they turned it down. Which probably lead to them to enter into some sort of agreement with Taito.

(For the skeptical, it was in Mihara's blog a while ago, I'm not sure if it was posted here or on click-stick, but either way I certainly can't find it)

Excellent pics and vids, many thanks! :)

The graphics don't look that hot to me, but if the gameplay is fun, then that's easily overlook-able...correct me if I'm wrong, but it looked to me like the player character was able to "capture" enemy ships and toss them at others for bonuses...could this be the second coming of Space Bomber?

Oh, I thought it was well covered that the split between Cave and Arika was over the Ketsui Superplay. Yes it was still Arika's fault for terminating the relationship, but out of lost honor. I do remember the comment on the mushi port saying it would have been a complete re-write anyway from their DDPDOJ/ESPGaluda engine...but it was a moot point.

Yeah, that feature was totally taken from ChinaVortex from what I saw in those videos, that gameplay part looked very similar.

Yeah I saw that. But what can I do? Waste my time arguing with fools? In any case, they've given me credit for the PinkSweets videos so I'll let it slide.

In the end, they just make themselves look bad to anyone who knows what's going on.

If this turns out to be anything like Shienryu (1) then maybe it will be akin to Trizeal, and be largely ignored in Naomi form by modern JP arcade players, but then end up selling and being appreciated better by the diverse shmup fanbase on the DC. We need a DC port announcement.

Sounds like a fun feature 8)

edit: added game name to thread title, to clarify this is the official thread.

Seems to want to be a score-based game (so no Shienryu 1 pt. 2). Gameplay mechanics seem unadventurous (and therefore, to me, basically boring). Pick enemy, toss back. Oh boy, enemy chaining. Who has devoted any significant time to playing Space Bomber for score, really? For the bosses it looks like it's got some lock-on attack milking. Yaawwn. Patterns look straight out of any Cave game. It's all very Cave-like, actually. Shienryu Explosion took Cave's speed-altering shots, so it's really no surprise they continue copying the top dog.

Wow, complete 16-bit era flashbacks there. I still don't know about how well I would like the game, but if it gets a soundtrack I'm in for sure.

This one's not bad at all. It reminded me a bit of GameCube Star Soldier's ST- and that in itself is great.

If indeed the Dreamcast will be retired with Under Defeat, hopefully we'll see a port of Exelica to something.

I'm guessing PS2... if nothing other for the fact that it saw a prior Warashi shmup release on it (Shineryu & Shineryu Explosion)... hell, for the fact that it saw a prior Warashi release period. Correct me if I'm wrong, but none of the Usagi series have been ported to home consoles yet.

Those videos were interesting since it looks like essentially the same game mechanic as Zero Gunner 1 (holding down the shoot button locks on to a target). I hadn't seen any other use of this mechanic; sort of glad to see it come back.

19XX: War Against Destiny has a great implementation of "hold-for-lock" play.

I wrote to Warashi's Exelica feedback e-mail (in Japanese) to see if the game was planned to be released in arcades by my next visit, as well as a passing question regarding home ports. One of the replies I received was in English, though! Here are a couple of relevant excerpts, hopefully it's okay to relay this information:
HIRUNED wrote:"Triggerheart EXELICA" appears in Japan in May.

Whether it transplants it for the PS2 or DC is not decided.
But, it is likely to achieve it surely if there are a lot of demands.
