Genesis Audio Distortion Help
At certain volumes, the left channel is distorted. How do I fix this? I'm using the headphone jack hooked up to PC speakers on a USA VA3 Genesis 1.

Re: Genesis Audio Distortion Help
Don't know if this is what causes your problem but...
The Genesis' headphone output doesn't work well with devices that have high impedance jacks (most headphones, some active computer speakers).
For example : my headphones (300 ohms)in my Genesis's headphone jack caused all sorts of trouble, but my sound system (75 ohms - a standard) using a jack with matching impedance (75 ohms) sounds pristine.
So first, I would try to plug your genesis in a different sound amp, preferably a sound system. This will tell you wether the problem is caused by a wire, the Genesis, the computer speakers, or simply incompatibility between these two devices.

Oh and by the way : when you say "At certain volumes", doe it mean that your using the volume slider of the Genesis to lower volume?atheistgod1999 wrote:At certain volumes, the left channel is distorted. Because you shouldn't do that. It needs to stay up all the way, or at the very worst around 75%, no lower than that. Lowering the audio signal from there gives undiserable results.
Just want to make sure this is not the case.

Genesis' volume slider is notorious for having issues.
I got fed up with it in one of my 5 Mega Drives and just removed it and jumpered the connections, so it always stay at maximum.
And as said, you should always keep the slider all the way up and adjust the volume with your speaker's controls.

Robneal81's method worked for me. Now I just have a 3.5mm headphone cable running out from the back of my Mega Drive which I plug straight in to my powered speakers. Streets of Rage has never sounded better. It might be worth throwing a ground loop isolator into the chain, too. I should add that this was with an early model 1 Japanese Mega Drive.

OK I know I should be posting more in other people's threads instead of my own, but I got a problem: The left channel is still distorted at MAX VOLUME.

Re: Genesis Audio Distortion Help
And you tried plugging your Genesis in an other device(a sound system) too?
Not necessarily because I think your computer speakers might be at fault, but more because, as I've said devices with an impedance higher than 75ohms seem to cause problems (all headphones/active computer speakers I've tried with my model 1 sound horrible, but through my integrated amp it sounds pristine).
If it still has noise in the left channel : I've seen a few cases where people got rid of(bypassed) their slider on their model 1, and that solved their issue. You could try that, as I'm sure it's not a hard mod. Ask people on here how to do it (I personnally don't know how to do it)
