Where else does Recap post?

Post by Neon »

I'm not going to talk too much shit about the guy, since he's not here to defend himself, but suffice it to say I'm not fond of him...

However I have a bit of a fascination with his views...most of which I find to be totally nuts, however I want to try to understand them a little more.

I know of the Postback place, but I don't speak Spanish very well...

There is nothing to understand.

The guy's news entries sometimes appear on insertcredit (it's almost always about "upscaled and filtered", so is quite relevant to his views I guess), and apparently he also posts on their forums from time to time.

Hehe, it's true. I just have to find out what he thinks of.

Recap: Once I beat a game in a credit, there's no reason to play it ever again since it offers nothing new audiovisually. By the way, you're stupid. [paraphrase]

Me: *cries, shits pants* WHAT IS REAL???!!! *spends next several weeks in straightjacket*

So we've got click's site (which I snagged when it was offered for download, have it on here somewhere) or insertcredit, I also found one on mame.net's, anyplace else?

I had an argue with him (yet another, yes) at Gaijin Punch's own forums. Perhaps you'll find him there Neon.

You're fascinated by the orrid.

Maybe I haven't read enough of his posts, but I didn't see anything too outlandish (I seemed to understand most of his logic, expect when he is flaming). He did get a little bent out of shape when I proved him wrong on a PCB that had both interlace and non-interlaced modes (wow someone more obessive than me about that topic!).

It's not so much that his graphical gripes were outlandish. I'm sure everyone agrees that Mushi on PS2 doesn't look as good as the PCB because of the filtering. It's that it always seems to be his only concern when talking about a game, like games that are filtered are unplayable or not worth playing because of the scaling and filtering. I know that's why I got in to a long and fairly ridiculous argument with him awhile back.
Feedback will set you free.

Filtering sucks ass. Any game that has filtered graphics gets a -1 in my book by default.

+1

I have always agreed with Recap 110% on issues of resolution and graphical display of arcade conversions. Yet somehow, he's still the absolute, all-time biggest douchebag I can ever remember on the internet. I honestly think he believes that the internet needs his carefully tuned eyes to notice when a screenshot (etc) is interlaced, upscanned, filtered or otherwise fucked with from it's native lo-res perfection. I also think he believes that anyone not making himself a martyr over the issue (ie: being willing to play Mushihime or Taito Memories etc on their PS2) is tragically stupid and needs to be constantly badgered via forum insults. Last but not least I think he believes that this badgering is the very reason the internet was invented.

So good luck Neon. You're a true anthropologist. We recently had some fun with him over at Fanitsu, in case you missed it.

Something lame is going on

But i agree, his posts were usually pure gold, usually...i wouldn't be surprised if he's actually a true nut, though, there's obsession and there's pathological behaviour, he seems to fall in the latter.

Even, if must say...

He's just a nut... right now on the mame.net forum he's trying to tell smf and R.Belmont (both of who have worked on PSX emulators) that the various CPS2 to PSX ports were upscaled and filtered.

He's a total and complete graphics whore, and just because he obsesses over 2D instead of 3D doesn't change that fact. Every time I see a news post from him on insertcredit I try to guess whether he'll complain about filtering or 3D graphics, and it's ALWAYS one or the other.

Recap's primary flaw is that he thinks he is smarter than he actually is, and he has an insatiable ego, which all but eliminates his ability to admit when he is wrong. Either that or he is so consumed with himself and so sure that he is right about everything that he simply refuses to consider any alternate opinions or evidence. Instead, he keeps ranting the same rants and makes himself look more and more ignorant with the passage of time. Bleh. I'm glad he's not around here anymore.

The thing is, Recap does know a lot of stuff. The problem is that he doesn't know everything, and he thinks he does. Even when he's blatantly wrong about something (Chi no Ronde, anyone?) he refuses to admit it, because how can someone who knows everything be wrong? The facts must be wrong, dammit!

I think sethsez hit it.

This is golden:

That's like the time that he was trying to get Gaijin Punch to change his jp-eng translation of an article to say "shooting game" instead of "shmup." He argued about that for like 4 pages. He can't help but think that if somebody other than himself writes something on the internet, it's wrong or amiss somehow. But then again he does seem to follow in the footsteps of Brandon from insert credit...

Sad thing is, if he ever said that, it would be completely hypothetical.

If Recap spent even a fraction of the time that he spends harping about resolutions on actually playing games, he would no doubt be one of the West's best players.
