Need help with audio on xrgb mini!!

Post by aamike68 »

So my mother in law bought me a new surround sound system for my wife and I's new home. Its the Vizio 5.1 38" soundbar with sub and satellite rear speakers. The system sounds fantastic but today I decided to play some secret of mana with the wife and remembered the xrgb mini mainly supports hdmi and my soundbar doesn't. I have optical cable going from it to my computer. So ive been trying to hook up the xrgb mini through hdmi and having red and white composite audio cables going to my sound bar. After an hour of tweaking and guess work I have given up. There is a digital input on the soundbar, is there some kind of configuration I can use with that or is it simply impossible to separate audio and video from two different inputs? (hdmi video and composite audio).

The Mini does not have audio output except HDMI. You need a HDMI to SPDIF audio extractor, something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/HDMI-to-HDMI-SP ... 53fc353611

You can use either analogue L/R or SPDIF from that box to your soundbar.

SPDIF carries the exact same signal as HDMI itself. And while I doubt that there are any high quality D/A converters included with this one, I also don't think that analogue would sound considerably worse than digital.
