Help! I screwed up my Sony PVM 20m2mdu

Post by armorharmer »

Hello guys!

Last night my OCD went mad so I played around in service menu of my Sony PVM 20m2MDU and screwed up. I cannot get descent picture, settings are all over the place :(
Can someone help, I will paste what settings I need, you can enter yours here, then get a starting point from where I will restore calibration settings.
The problem was - I couldn't get good calibration with my PC and also with my 60HZ NTSC Genesis (originally RGB but with 60HZ switch).
They are both connected with PVM trough scart. I managed to get a fine looking picture for them individually, but when I change input from PC to Genesis or vice versa, picture was not centered right. Should over scan be used in that situation?

Found manual with default settings. I managed to set up PC on "normal" mode and Genesis on Overscan. Is someone using same setup/features? If I switch to Genesis the picture is in a frame, like Sonic The Hedgehog - in a blue frame. That's why I'm using Overscan.
The thing that drove me made and made me play with service menu is that when PC is on and displaying picture, the down left corner is a little bit curved. I played with phase but it didn't help.
I guess that picture on CRT cannot be 100% perfect as I expected. I'm satisfied with picture, it's brilliant on PVM, but my OCD is not satisfied. :/

Could you post the default settings here for future noobs? :)

This is just what I was mentioning in another thread, and what's been discussed before: Each system's signals are a bit different, so what works perfectly for one system won't be perfect for another system. That's normal.

You can't copy and paste those settings into any random Sony PVM. Rather, if you need to reset, it's better to write down your current settings, and then select Factory settings in the service menu to reset to the built-in settings.

And, of course, when playing with the service menu, only tweak one thing at a time. Start with h size and centering, then go to v size and centering, and then look at other things like trap (trapezoid) and so on.

El Obscuro, I was talking about 20m2mdu/e monitor. I used these values as a starting point.
I went crazy one night because I couldn't calibrate monitor perfect, so I messed alot of settings. As a CRT noob, this help me to get starting point and to use that as a base and adjust from there. Of course, default values differ from one monitor to another.

I mean using the factory defaults - those are always available to load.

I read somewhere, maybe even on this forum, that that's not safe. I hope that I'm wrong.

I used to say that, but I've been challenged recently

It is simple to do and probably quite safe in almost all cases, especially if you're already going to punch in factory settings anyway.
