Might have got a broken download. Plays fine on my end, right up to the Name Entry screen.uwfan wrote:my download of this video seems to freeze up at about 10 mins, before he defeats the final boss, anyone else having this problem?
....that last boss' fire pattern....can I even call it a pattern? For fuck's sake.

It's like the only way TO beat the game is whore out the bomb and hope you have enough lives to make it through...althouh I admire the little touch of realism there. A bomb that detonates on ground impact can't do so if you're waaaay up in the air. So it just clears the screen. Haha wow to hell with antidepressants and therapy, those guys at Cave's programming department have all the stress relief they need right there...
I think the PS2 can handle this game in all it's modes. The REAL question is whether or not the PS2 can handle running this game in WAIT OFF mode.

that video was sick, that last pattern was almost worse than insane hibachi!
by what mechanism did the bullets disappear? was it when he died or bomb, or something else, i can't say (except for the times where it was clearly because he killed a mid enemy or a boss life sub-bar)
also the music is great, can't wait for this game.

I don't mind that I have to tilt my head to watch it because...
Does anyone else agree that the music totally fits the gameplay? I don't usually pay too much attention to the music when I see some gameplay footage for the first time, but this one really grabbed my attention. I can't wait for an OST release. But then again, I am a huge fan of Namiki!WOW. That's the only crystal-clear footage I've seen. Incredible what a 2D game can do. I'm glad Cave is pushing it further.

Wow, the color purple will now be absolutely shunned be shmuppers the world over! Unbelievable patterns, but so beautiful I...must...watch...

Yup - I'm a bit curious about the backstory - becuase those insects which the last boss commands are the same as the player's options.japtor wrote:actually it looks like theres little beetle things that swoop in and just take the bomb away.
It's worse than hibachi by far, if you ask me. The bullets disappear when you bomb (the boss stops firing for awhile if you die), but when player invincibility fades, the boss seems to throw a few extra spreads, depending on what phase of its attack it's at. And yeah, I really like the music too.chtimi wrote:that video was sick, that last pattern was almost worse than insane hibachi!

Mush
To be brief:
ORIGINAL MODE has fast bullets, very little slowdown and is all about the 1LC (the 1 Life Clear). You can get up to 17mil for stage scoring and end level bonuses + 50mil for 5 lives remaining at the ALL. Hence the WR was 67mil last time I checked.
MANIAC MODE has slow bullets (and lots of'em). It has tons of resultant slowdown, which I personally don't mind. Unlike Original Mode, its all about Mega-Chaining. I have a Master Maniac Mode Replay SVCD, but haven't as yet been able to get it to play. My friends ARC & ARM tell me its HIGHLY AGGRESIVE point-blank style play. It must also be highly robotic in terms of Route/Screen Appointments, because of the Chaining demands.
ULTRA MODE You are always at risk of being 'skimmed' on this sick mode.

- I Knew It!! Late last year I posted on Click Stick that Mush Stage 3 was an homage to Truxton. People have previously argued as to which game Mush is a spiritual successor. They cited Guwange and the DDPs etc. But I think you have to look further back than that. Mush even has 3 firepowers as in Truxton. Having said that, the similarities with Truxton are fairly superficial & Mush is really just DDP DOJ with more forgiving chaining.
If you wish to read more on Mush, check the Mushihimesama thread on Click Stick forums.

I also noticed the music, it sounds quite...magical.. don't know how else to put it.. I thought it was very fitting too, but then I found the double-play videos of the other stages, and don't think they fit quite so well. But the boss theme is cool too!
But why would DivX codec be a problem? It's encoded in MPEG-1 as far as I can tell... anyway, for all you people getting neck cramps, I opened the file in VirtualDub, and apploed a rotate by 90 degress CCW video filter and re-encoded with DivX 3.11 (I'm old school with DivX too :\ ) and it only took about 15 minutes on a 900 MHz Athlon.

at least thats what i think they are. both are around 45 megs if your connection is a concern.
People rarely play Ultra mode on Mushihime in the arcades here. Even in the arcades in tokyo, maniac mode is standard. On a lot of machines, if you check the daily score register you'll see that nobody has played Ultra at all that day...
I think ultra was tossed in without a whole lot of consideration for "perfect balancing." If they did... well, people sure aren't paying much attention to their efforts.
