Truxton I or II ?
I always just assumed that II was more well-regarded since it's the sequel, but what are this board's thoughts?
Re: Truxton I or II ?
1 is long and frustrating-hard, I don't like it much.
2 is a better game but even longer, endless, tough, tiresome ... boring. It looks absolutely fantastic though.
Sold my 2 a while ago after realizing it was taking the dust, I like my fights shorter and more lively, truxton 2 is for Spartans.

1 has too many memorise or die moments as enemies come from all angles, and it takes far too long to power up. The Mega Drive version makes it easier by giving you a sort of shield at red weapon full power. And then gives you different endings for each loop, as if one isn't hard enough!
2 is just sooo looong.
Both have awesome soundtracks though.

I prefer 1. Tighter miniboss action, great music, great pace though too damn hard. I play it with auto fire and still get checkpoint addicted. I wouldn't pay it without auto unless a real quarter was on the line.
#2 is great, too. Just to goddamn long of sections.

1 overall is better, but still hard in the wrong spots. For example, the 1st midbosses are surprisingly harder than a lot of things in the game, and enemies come from all directions frequently in the later stages.
The problem with 2 is that it drags out for way too long, by the time you get to stage 4 it's the same amount of time that you would have played Truxton 1's first loop. Stage 5 and 6 here can go **** the hell off.

both are great. 2 is more balanced but 1 has its charms.

Tatsujin Ou has I DEFEND STM the shooting music definition of "sup motherfuckers?"
However Tatsujin has the better Screaming Skull. It appears to be shrieking in deranged delight at the carnage wrought! Ou's looks like an angry god screaming for vengeance while taking a fiery shit, admittedly not a bad image in itself.

I prefer II (I play it a lot) because I feel like it's more of a game and less of a teeth grinding affair. Both are hard but T2 allows you to breathe a bit. Both classics.

I love part 2 and own the PCB (though it has an issue at present that needs to be fixed).
It is in my top 5 favourites Shmups.
But I think that the first game is solid too but in that old school and less sophisticated way - like listening to trash metal in the mid 80s on ancient audio tape
I think that 2 is more "unfair" though and many complain about it being so and I have to agree but I never let that stop me.
Used to play it at the Casino Arcade in London too before it was moved

Truxton is legendary. 2 is just kinda there and doesn't do much for me.
Re: Truxton I or II ?
both are pretty good games and tatsujin is a slightly better game maybe
ou is definitely not easy (not even truxton ii), and tatsujin isn't that hard (not even tatsujin)

truxton or truxton 2 hard decision but I have to choose the first, remember when I played the port of megadrive with 4 or 5 years at my cousin's house, and later I was very frustrated in my house playing Galaxian nes

Re: Truxton I or II ?
It's around 45-50 mins per loop. For proof as to how long and exhausting the game is, here's probably one of the longest shmup vids on YT - a nearly 7 hour run of 7 loops:

Say what you want about the PC Engine port of the first, but the drum track they added really brings the OST to life:

Re: Truxton I or II ?
I think II's first boss is one of the earlier appearance of our old fiend WHERE DA BULLETS AT, %&*Q@!ERS?
Not really a fan of that. Good design otherwise, but yeah, too long-winded for me too. Seibu ate their lunch by, ironically, sticking to the original tried-and-true Toaplan formula including a more appropriate stage length. Let's be honest, outside credit feeding, how many people ever got to the end of any of these games? By the 15th minute of TII's first stage, I'd wager many players had simply lost interest at the lack of visual interest. TII has this problem where every pattern must be followed through to its logical conclusion, and it makes things drag on much longer than they should. Just a sniper tank or two outta nowhere (!) is all it takes, bah gawd!

PCE Tatsujin music is godly. Outdoes its arcade OSV nearly as hard as Kyuukyoku Tiger's MD port. (Not as hard as MIDNIGHT RESISTANCE MD though!)OmegaFlareX wrote:Say what you want about the PC Engine port of the first, but the drum track they added really brings the OST to life:

Truxton 2. Beautiful game and great to play. Just a shame it didn't see a wider release outside of the arcade and FM Towns.
Re: Truxton I or II ?
The music in Truxton 2 takes the crown.
I like the first game a lot, but Truxton 2 is pure Toaplan magic.
I'd rate it just under Outzone and Dogyuun.

Re: Truxton I or II ?
well i just played both and to me they're pretty much the same based on first impressions. Truxton 1 feels kind of cheap at times with enemies spawning behind you with no warning. But truxton 2 feels wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy^infinite too long. i personally prefer truxton 1 even if it feels a bit cheap at times right now.

Re: Truxton I or II ?
Truxton II has it's own beauty, the music is damned nice, like others have said though, it's main problem is how long stages are without much variety in backgrounds (after all space is a lonely place....except for these alien spacecraft and their fast bullets). The first is a thrill ride, the second is like a long trip of never ending fighting, but is still a solid game after all.

Except for stage 2, the music in Trux2 is so... happy. It's just bizarre, especially stage 5 which is downright horrifying in every other aspect.
It's like that scene in Karate Kid 3 where everything's going pear-shaped and Miyagi starts singing this Japanese song. "Come Daniel-san, sing. Happy song."
