No thanks i'd rather not have another bland looking 1 hr loop snore fest with unskippable cut scenes.
Whenever I hear people talk smack about Gradius V, bleh.

I mean sure, the length is a problem (but in some ways a strength*). Other things far less so (20 second cutscene, big deal. the graphical style is gorgeous as well and the game is far from bland visually, even if it lacks the more fantastical elements of previous titles). Hearing someone call it a snorefest baffles me though. Game is intense as fuck, can't imagine anyone feeling that way unless they credit fed it.

The option control also gives the game a very unique playstyle. Mastering aiming and controlling your formations is as important as learning stages or dodging bullets.

Gotta give credit to any game that can make feel like passing out from mental exhaustion by the time it's over. Now that's a visceral experience.

Whatevs i didn't credit feed it i cleared it like every other Gradius game i've played bar 3 arcade. Just didn't click for me where as i play G4 everyday and adore it for me it's the perfect gradius experience, the difficulty, the pace, the strategies and the greatest maoi stage of all time imo. I'm happy to be in a minority here but Gradius v just wasn't for me at all.

^^^Fair enough.

I still don't quite understand, since I don't think I've ever had a boring time with any reasonably difficult 1cc. If I find the game boring, I can't play it enough to be able to get the 1cc. But once you get into the 1cc experience, the excitement is pretty much on.

The cheerio launching modules of Gradius V's first boss will always be a stealth Moai reference to me. ;3 They just didn't have the time/budget to spruce 'em up for deployment this go-round. Faux-granite plating and mass fabrication ain't cheap!

Would've been cool to at least get a jungle or desert zone for ol' time's sake. Although st4 did a pretty bang-up job with GAU. Dig the glaring, tracking eye that rolls back as they sustain critical damage and explode.

I voted for Sunset Riders, as we need more run 'n guns with wild west themes in these days.

I'm a huge Gradius fanboy, but it's hard for me to see how someone can prefer part IV over V. IV is decent and also pretty challenging, but the music and presentation is just awful compared to the rest of the series. III & IV are just really hard to get into IMO, whereas V is a delight.

To me it's easily the most polished of the series and everything just clicks. From the mechanics, the music and graphics ,and the challenge, it's almost perfect. The only thing I would have changed is the infinite looping. I think they should have stuck with a 2-ALL and had the loop 10 difficulty be the second loop. That would have been incredible. It just takes way too fucking long to play for score in that game, like "most of your day" long.

Also maybe you should try playing it on Very Hard if you think it's a "snore fest" on normal.

Behave yourself the music is fantastic, the boss themes don't compare i agree but the rest is great and pretty original for a shmup although i'm not going to argue this as objective truth it's just taste and preference. I also love how the 2nd loop is such a gentle increase and well balanced in terms of difficulty over the first loop instead of the all to familiar groin punt of other titles in the series. IV for me was just the most refined version of the original Gradius formula which is probably why i love it and some of these qualities were removed from V and it just didn't offer the same senses of panic, claustrophobia and importance on getting shit right the first time to avoid the difficult although doable recovery suffering (i'm the minority that actually enjoys this aspect of Gradius). Different strokes for different folks i guess.

I think 5 really is different from the rest of the series, but that's hardly a bad thing. Definitely not going to appeal to everyone, but nothing ever does.

^^^Really, that sums up most of my feelings on Treasure's games in general. The Treasure Anti-Hype is so overblown IMO.

Treasure makes some great games. It's easy to get caught up in "aaaargh there are more shooters than Ikaruga, people!" But... Ikaruga, Gunstar Heroes, Gradous V, Alien Soldier, Guardian Heroes... I'll admit that Bangai-o and Radiant Silvergun aren't my favorites, but Treasure is a damn fine developer.

I realize that's not tge argument right now, bit I thought I'd contribute my two cents. I think every Gradius is pretty fun, I just think 1, Gaiden, and V are the best. The options in V are really entertaining.

Asked for a new Gradius game and new true old school 2d bomberman.

Oh and of course I asked them to find Yagawa and let him develop the new Gradius with suiciding and rank management.

Suiciding and rank management... how would that factor into the classic Gradius recovery factor?

Let Yagawa figure it out . I Can't remember but when you die in old gradius games they had checkpoints no? Take out checkpoints. You also lost all your power ups? Have them fly into the air aka raizing style and you have a chance to grab some as they fall.
Well Im ruining Gradius now so I think I'll stop.

Actually, Gradius V did that - when you died, your options would scatter, like the P-items in a Cave shooter. No checkpoints either.

That was taken from Salamander.

Gradius already has rank, and you can already strategically suicide to get rid of laser/double/excess options.

Go back to the real Castlevania.

Give us a new Contra.

Hell, give us a new Silent Scope with a badass light gun.

cave hermit wrote:"We've heard your pleas! We at Konami are happy to announce the grand return of the treasured Gradius series!

Introducing Gradius: Saikou no Fukkatsu, a complete reimagining of Gradius 4 for smartphones and tablet devices! Here's a list of some of the many new features:

-Innovative 1:1 touchscreen ship controls!

-RPG style progression system! Collect coins for later use, and get amazing permanent load outs for the Vic Viper to annihilate your foes! You can also use the premium shop to purchase golden power up tokens for the ultimate in firepower!

-Over 100 different stages based on various stage segments from the original! No need to marathon a handful of ultra long stages all at once! Now you can enjoy bite sized challenges at your leisure!

-Refueling and repair system! Adding a new layer of depth and realism, after each stage you'll have to wait a short time for the Vic viper to undergo maintenance! Not to worry though, repair speed can be easily boosted to hyperdrive speeds via the use of golden power-up tokens!

-Rebalanced difficulty!
Gradius has always had a reputation for being brutally difficult, so we've toned down many stage segments to make this release more accessible and enjoyable for casual play! Veterans have no need to worry though! We've included many ultra tough challenges that'll require very strategic load outs to conquer! Can you strengthen your firepower enough to pierce the core of the ultra-reinforced Steel Big Core? Better start saving those golden power up tokens!

Gradius: Saikou no Fukkatsu. Available from the App Store, Google Play, and Microsoft store Q3 2015!"
Don't call it a grave - it's the future we chose.

In all seriousness I would love to see another proper Gradius or maybe even Salamander title, but I wouldn't trust the modern konami to do it.

Please, please, please.....A proper Parodius game by Treasure for a console.

And if you are going to make a new Castlevania game then make it linear. Stop trying to be Metroidvania.

New Gradius, sure I'd buy that. New Contra, sure I'd buy that.

No mention of IIDX or Pop'n anywhere. :(
