You can try this:

- Delete the nvram folder
- Create a .txt file named "nvram" in the Mame folder
- Remove the .txt extension, leaving an extensionless file named "nvram".

Now, when you run a game in MAME, it will try to create a folder named "nvram" to store the nvram in, but it will fail because the name is already taken.

I haven't done this in a while, but I remember it working well.

It looks like that worked, thanks. I also found out I can skip the loading of shmame GUI by calling from prompt. Only thing left is the stupid Window Size. Do you (or anyone) know how I can get mame to start up with he same window size each time? It only seems to allow MAXIMIZED or SMALLEST window size possible from what I'm reading. I really need it to be nearly the exact size and position on screen each time or it just feels "off".

Edit: I made a program that does it, so that's it.

Well I made a mame inp tonight of a score similar to yesterday, score would be 2.87m, a decent no-miss run. Only thing is STUPID GHOST is appearing in stage 10, so I lose 60k points... so the score is only 2.81m. https://www.sendspace.com/file/ckzkfr

if I get a really good inp or mambo, I'll upload it

You can play with wolfmame 106 if you want autofire. Is the better emulator version for all neo geo players (I use it from years). But I suggest you to use bios japan mvs 3, so you can compare your score with D.I (I never use euro bios because in many neo geo games some things changes).

I'm not sure if I can use wolf106 because it's always giving me some issues, and the replay always sends End of file as soon as it starts. Also the sound sounds a bit weird.

Also I found a RISKY strat to kill the 2-9 boss with only 1 bomb. I can dump all my bombs on the black planes in 2-9, this will give me 30k-40k extra points, so maybe I can reach the score of D.I on a PERFECT run without mambo. https://youtu.be/gHeT_bx-cAo

Welp it's not mambo, but it happened. I spent the last 3 days furiously studying bombless 19 boss and 20 boss SUICIDE STRAT. Extra bombs allow me to kill all the black planes in stage 19, and then the super dangerous farming of stage 20 boss. Then I did the riskiest run ever and somehow finished with no bombs or lives. 2,950,800! .INP Replay here https://www.sendspace.com/file/7ya1j4

Image

And there is no way in hell I will get higher than that, because I won't do bombless 19 boss again, it's just too risky. I'll just do safe play and grind until mambo appears.

Well I almost just got higher than 3 million, something I didn't know how was possible, but at the last minute of course the ghost appeared, causing me to lose 50k points. Man the RNG in this game is crap.

My 49th full completed score run of this game...

Image
As far as I know the first time someone has gotten more than 3 million without mambo. I figured out a score boost with:

Stage 3 - Much better path giving me 15,000
Stage 10 - Got several monkey spawns, eye boss appeared
Stage 13 - Much better path giving me 8,000
Brazil 2 - Better medal strategy worth 8,000 (messed up and only got 2,000)
France 2 - Got the easiest boss pattern, so saved a bomb (10,000)
Stage 17 - Super lucky bonus collection (20,000?)
Stage 19 - Dumped 3 bombs on black planes and got full points, did bombless boss strat
Stage 20 - Got several monkey spawns, eye boss appeared and destroyed boss parts worth 70,000

With very good luck and better stage 7 I could have got 30k more maybe. Max humanly possible score for the F-15 is probably around 3.04 million. Also here's a video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNymmeIsglU

Is the first time in the arcade hi-score history when a western player beat a japanese score in a shooting game. No words....

Here's .inp replays of mine, I recorded about 30 in the past 1 month https://www.sendspace.com/file/k4m7s3

I'm not sure why japanese scores didn't play the F-15 more. She must be the highest scorer in this game, because she can get full point bonus from stage 8 and 18. I don't understand how to score well with other planes at all. They're too slow to get all the medals, and they can't stop time so sprite limit bug causes huge loss of points.

But now I must still find the stupid fish anyway...

Completion #63. An insanely lucky run, I finally got 1,600,000+ on the first loop. This is probably not happening again.

Image

Probably due to that and not messing up on 2nd loop, I then got 3,031,200, also probably never happening again because I'll never be that lucky again.

Yeah I'll do that one more time when I'm sure I'm done with the game forever, but I'm tired of recording videos already. Actually, I made this guide video for brazil 2 while I was learning how to use adobe premiere https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xd67G27WIfs

A fairly focused run (for me!) after a lot of snoozy deaths.

jessiewonka - 565600 - Spanky - 1-6 - MVS (AF2)

They're super weird. I prefer Mao Mao's speed but I seem to make it further and score higher with Spankster.

Well it was never a very popular series for sure 8)

I still complete the game once per day. Up to completion #77 now. Still no mambo appearance.

Well it's fucking over, after 85 full runs and many failed runs, taking 44 minutes each spread over several months, I can finally stop playing this god damn RNG game

Image Image Image

Fishman even appeared in the best place during a very strong run, so the final score was much better than I was hoping for. I would've settled for 3.2m. Next I want to learn Sonic Wings Limited / SW4 (not PSX version). I think the west record for it is low right now.

Here is a zip file which contains 3 things - https://www.sendspace.com/file/7l0oed
1) All my .inp files
2) A program I made to resize the MAME window, because it always annoyed me starting minimized.
3) Fixed sound engine working for aero fighters 2 / sonic wings 2. It stops the frequent sound crashing you get on MAME, but doesn't effect the game.

That score is awesome, looks like Mambo finally turned up and you beat the ancient world record?
Amazing work either way, we need some more world records up in this.

Yep. But still HKR's old score is still impressive to me, because he never got to study the game in MAME like I could. I would love to contact those old players or watch them play.

Get Sonic Wings Limited western record
Try and 1cc some games like sengoku blade and strikers
Learn some yagawa games

But not so serious anymore. According to MAME I played sw2 for 1,500 hours total and I can't waste that much time again.
