Resident Evil 2 Remake Confirmed!

Been waiting on this for a decade so I'm pretty hype. Not sure how much of my RE2 love is just nostalgia, but it's one I still enjoy revisiting even now and I always felt it was a crime it never recieved the same treatment as REmake.

Wondering a bit how they will take this, whether it will be traditional like REmake or a modern 3D TPS like Revelations. I could be satisfied with either if it were handled properly.

Currently I'm mostly worried about all the violence being neutered since Japan has pussied out a bit over the past decade, but maybe some extra effort will be put into gore effects for the western release as it usually is. The other thing that worried me is the modern series insistence of coop and AI partners. If they make this a Leon and Claire coop afair it will probably ruin the entire thing.

WE DO IT!

Post by iconoclast »

I think the whole reason why this got greenlit is because of how well the Resident Evil HD remaster sold, so they'll probably try to follow the same formula.

I'm glad they're finally doing it though. I loved RE2 as a kid, but I can't play that game any more. PS1-era 3D is just too ugly for me to stomach unless it's heavily stylized (eg. Mega Man Legends). Hopefully Kamiya is involved in some way.

The original REmake was amazing, but it's also a bit a product of its time. I can only imagine what this will be like with a 16:9 aspect ratio and current-gen reimaginings of what the youthful cast (i.e. Leon, I don't recall Claire ever aging much) would look like.

Jesus. I've never spent much time with RE3, but from what little I played, it seemed like it would be a natural pick for a visual upgrade.

Now where's our next-gen Parasite Eve and Soul of the Samurai (Ronin Blade in Europe)?

I'm guessing it will be skipping WiiU again since REmake and RER2 skipped it (despite the non-HD version of REmake being ported to Wii). :(

I'd normally frown on yet another HD Remake/Remaster, but Capcom needs the money.

Honestly it would have made more sense if they remade all 3 as 1 bundle but I guess its all about that cash cow and milking those udders

It might make more "sense". But they're going to have to redo all the graphics from 2. And the same, if they did 3 or Code Veronica. It's not as "easy", as the REmake remaster, or the upcoming Zero, since their assets are more modern.

The old ones look like someone puked them up. I really hope they do it right. 2 is one of my all time faves, from that series. But I want better graphics, and analog controls. Some new voice acting would be a must as well.

Well its about time. I kinda thought they would remake RE2 after randomly deciding to re-remake RE1. Why would they do one and not the more popular one? Other than its easier. RE3 remake will come soon....

Maybe after RE3's remake we'll get some sort of RE3.5 where its using the remade engine to continue the tank style controls that harkens back to the PS1 era.

Why? The REMake HD version and RER2 still came to 360 and PS3 and it seems Capcom is snuffing the WiiU. Maybe if the remake is designed around next gen, but previous games were on the Wii. I don't feel Capcom skipping WiiU is for the best.

The Resident Evil remaster is just a touched up Gamecube game running at higher res. I'm sure the RE2 remake will be an entirely new game, so it'd make sense for them to target the PS4/XB1's power level. Besides, the Wii U will probably be dead by the time this comes out. Maybe it'll be a launch game for the next Nintendo system though (if it's powerful enough).

Maybe, but I still think it sucks how Capcom is treating the WiiU. I mean even RE0 is skipping WiiU (not that I'm excited for it in the first place, though). It's also puzzling how that MM collection is coming to 3DS and not the WiiU.

I think the world is treating the Wii-U the same as capcom... forgot it was still around, regardless if they are publisher or consumer.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Yeah, I have a Wii U. I knew what I was getting into.

If that's the only option you have to play new games...you made the wrong choice.

I also have 360, I just find it frustrating that the company that put REMake and RE4 on GCN and even made some Wii re-releases is even refusing to put the kinds of games they put on Wii and GCN on WiiU. At least they are still supporting 3DS. I don't agree with the sentiment on the WiiU, though. At least it still has some good first party stuff coming out. I don't feel I made the wrong choice with it since I find the first party games for it very enjoyable. TBQH, I have been frustrated with Capcom in general, especially over the MM fiasco. At least MH4U is good stuff.

What the heck is this supposed to mean? There's something wrong with playing older games? How did I make the wrong choice when the first party games on WiiU interest me more than most of the triple A titles on PS4 or XB1? I decided to wait on next gen and since I play both newer and older games, I have quite a backlog. There are games that interest me on XB1 and PS4, but stuff like Mario Maker, Mario Kart 8, SSB, Pikmin, Yoshi's Wooly World, Bayonetta 2, and Splatoon interest me. Bloodborne sounds interesting, but I only started playing Dark Souls (I like it quite a bit so far, though).

Anyway, I think it's good that a RE2 remake is coming out and I hope it turns out well, but I don't like being treated like the odd man out just because I don't agree with Capcom's decisions.

We're missing out on a few. I'm just waiting it out for the price to drop more.

Yeah, I hear you about the other games. It does have some good games on it. That's why I have one. But what I mean about "the wrong choice" is....it's a Nintendo home console, so no 3rd party support. Also, it's way underpowered, so it won't have a long life span. These things were obvious from day one.
I mean, I'll play Bayonetta 2 and Wonderful 101 on it, but I'm not gonna be like "I hope Dark Souls III comes out on this", because that's like waiting for the Rapture.

It's a dead system, and it was obvious from the beginning that it wasn't going to have any support or a long life span.

Remember DS launch titles? Who could tell all sorts of devs were going to embrace the - hardly overpowered - system back then? Not happening to WiiU at this point, it's easy to tell everybody saw it coming, but this kind of thing is never obvious to me from day one.

It's not that I'm hoping that RE2 will come out on it, more that I'm disappointed in Capcom for not even putting things they put on GameCube or Wii on the WiiU. The trickle of WiiU releases actually works out for me since I go between older and newer games, though I still don't get Nintendo releasing Yoshi's Wooly World in October in the US when it came out a month or two ago in EU and Japan. I also lack interest in Devil's Third after reading more about it. At least I have Splatoon to keep me busy for awhile.

I'm not sure if everyone has forgotten about the WiiU either. Splatoon actually had pretty good sales, which is surprising for a new franchise.

LOL, Kotaku came out with a story that Devil's Third "didn't even sell a thousand copies," until they were forced to retract it by their readers who pointed out that the release is currently an Amazon Japan exclusive.

I remember when PC Gamer said GTA V wasn't coming to PC after all. Then had to retract it the next day. 2 articles for the price of 0. Just make stuff up and retract it.

I can't be the only one who thought this was on the way ten goddamn years ago when REmake came out.

It's nice to have it finally but my enthusiasm has cooled somewhat. In preparation I should see if I'm still capable of running through RE2 without getting my shit wrecked.

Anyway, there is some new news on the remake of 2. The crew that were working on the fan remake (I think they were Italian), were asked by Capcom to quit. However, they are asking them for their input. So, that's good news. This could end up being worthwhile.
