What did I buy (STV bootleg edition)

Post by Strikers1945guy »

Bought a sega stv cart from sheep_nova on ebay as it was a decent deal and he has 100% feedback. Pics in the ebay ad showed the game running but no pic of the cart which I didn't realize until later. My bad there. This is what arrived. It fires up as Guardian Force alright but I assumed it's a crappy bootleg as it came with this games case :/

I was looking at the old how to spot a bootleg thread and it seems that this pcb has some signs of an original though? Rounded corners, has the sega logo stamped on it, etc.

Thread here :

I asked him about it and he never responded he just immidiately refunded me... so I guess that's great but still I wanted a real cart.

In my eyes clearly an original one, it has SEGA written all over it!

Wait what game? Guardian Storm? :?
Well, does it play like Guardian Force?

The cart label is from this game:

Sorry yeah meant guardian force. It was advertised as Guardian force but no pictures of the cart were available and when it arrived it was inside that stv game shell :/

If jt was a legit cart I would think he would have fought the paypal refund but he never did.

What exactly are your concerns about it?

It seems 100% legit to me:

- Round edges on the PCB
- "Right" tone of blue on the label
- Original sega maskroms

I would bet it is original!

PS- I can take it off your hands at shipping cost  and then you look for a "legit" one.

The pcb is original. The case is from a different game. Just a case swap, not really a bootleg, but not taking a picture for the sale or telling the buyer this information is rather dishonest.

I just assumed it being in a different case it was a bootleg so I asked him and he just sent a full refund with no explanation. If he said jt was real but in a case swap I would have investigated earlier and waited for some other people's opinions but I only opened it up after the immidiately refund as I assumed that was his way of saying yes sorry it's a bootleg.

I wasn't sure if bootlegs had taken a new turn and we're harder to spot or what.

I've bought stuff from sheep_nova in the past (and I know others who has as well). He's a decent guy but more of a function than an aesthetics kinda bloke, so it's always advisable to ask him for pictures of the actual item before buying from him.

Ahh, now I feel bad. Wished he would have said something before issuing a refund I just started the paypal claim to be safe as I wasn't sure if it was a bootleg being in the wrong case and all. Maybe I can contact him and settle this I don't want this for free if it's legit.

Thanks all.

I've also bought several different items from sheep_nova in the past without any problems. They are good people.

If you want/need send me a PM and i can give you their email.

Same here, I've bought from them in the past and they've always been pretty stand up in their transactions. Some great stuff comes up from time to time.
