Need to add Irreversible to this list, but at the moment I'm just listing fucked up movies - not really movies I enjoy or are "my best".

one of my friends continually recommends me gaspar noe but I still never got around to it. he said all of his movies - namely irreversible and enter the void are pretty messed up.
I guess you can throw harmony korine (excluding spring breakers), hal hartley, and todd solondz flicks out there too.

Re: whats your Best f*CKED UP movies?
Yes it is
- it's actually in my top 20 favourite movies ever.
But a f*cked up movie to me can be anything: a weird plot, surrealistic scenes, weird cutting & colour effects, disturbing performances, gore, artstyle, mixing genres, ect.........
And Miracle of P.Tinto (like Save the Green Planet) is a movie you can't put in a genre - there are dark scenes, funny scenes, surrealistic scenes but it's all made with so much love to detail you can't help but to love the weird story that is going on. It's not f*cked up because it's violent or gory but because it's a weird (and at the same time wonderful) story so full of wacky & surreal ideas that they put Terry Gilliam & Tim Burton to shame

Seul contre tous (i stand alone) is probably my favorite Gaspar noe film although i don't like to use the term fucked up for this one more so just a tough watch for some. A serbian film is the hilariously bad side of "fucked up" trying so hard to be edgelord - the movie. Visitor q is definitely a strong contender for straight up weird and i'm going to add Gummo to the list a film i also enjoy immensely.
Re: whats your Best f*CKED UP movies?
I saw a porno once where a bunch of guys wearing pig masks, oinking (screee screee etc) beat off and jizzed over a woman on a table. Does that qualify?

Anyone seen Red Room?
There is something about Japanese shot-on-video nihilism that both disgusts and intrigues me.

great lists..if there's more let me know guys
Re: whats your Best f*CKED UP movies?
Wake in Fright fits the bill here, very tense and surreal, and definitely not for the faint of heart.
I love Man Bites Dog (mentioned by a few), although I'd never give this as a suggestion to anyone I know. "Dude, what should I watch? I don't know... Man Bites Dog?"
Very partial to Eraserhead, Mulholland Drive, The Fountain, any Tarkovsky besides Andrei Rublev.
El Topo and Holy Mountain would also qualify.

Re: whats your Best f*CKED UP movies?
It's funny, Man Bites Dog original translated title is 'it happened in your neighborhood', full of local cultural references, heavily censored in many international releases, and it's still popular even overseas apparently.
Most reviews in english I've read miss the point of the film by far saying it's a satire on violence in the media, voyeurism blah blah blah, when it's actually about a character in that particular time and place we know we all could have met in real life, we all have somehow, and we aren't comfortable with our feelings about him; a terrifying monster that would also make an awesome buddy !
The original title says it, you have to know about the cases of horrible murders the movie even directly refers to like the Gregory case, and what the impact on society these things had in their time (and still do), that kind of stuff indeed almost always happens in our pretty normal neighborhoods.
You know there's always that friend or family in tears saying "we never imagined him being a psycho, he was such a nice guy!" to the cameras.
Well the movie offers you to accompany the killer, playing the perverse 'which side are you really on' game using humor, empathy and horror.
There's no morale about voyeurism, violence and the media, it's about ugly minds, the killer's, that neighbor's maybe, or ours ?
A fun dark punk movie period.
PS: if you know Poelvoorde a bit, he's a master at analyzing people and their culture, especially in his country, so in a way that film is also a personal demonstration of his greatest talent.

Spoiler
The child murder and the rape scenes as well as many other little details seem to be missing in some releases. The movies was even banned in Sweden lol.

I have the same feeling about the movie. French is my mother tongue, and much of the impact of the piece resides in the fact that this guy is extremely funny/casual in the way he speaks, with an extreme sense of detachment; you're part of the action and camaraderie builds up... You're treated in a very friendly manner, which is why some later parts clash so much with the tone of the first half. Therein lies the effectiveness of the movie. When is too much, really too much? I'm not saying you can't appreciate this if you don't know French and or the Belgian culture, but there is a special touch there for sure. Just thinking about the movie writing these lines I can't help but laugh at some of the lines in it... Truly a classic!Xyga wrote:It's funny, Man Bites Dog original translated title is 'it happened in your neighborhood', full of local cultural references, heavily censored in many international releases, and it's still popular even overseas apparently.
