Extron Emotia / VSC700 / RGB580xi
Just for a little project I'm compiling some information about various Extron units, can anyone tell me if the Super Emotia (or Emoita Plus or Emotia), the VSC700 and the RGB 580xi can be set with no processing so basically in bypass mode. I think the VSC700 can but not 100% sure, I don't think the emotia's can and I'm guessing the RGB can but only through dip switching.
If these aren't capable of being bypassed via the unit itself is there an elegant way to do this via a switch?
Cheers if you can help!

These units all have a dedicated bypass output, but you cannot disable processing on the "processed" outputs. Usually the passthrough is done as a VGA port, while the processed output is done in BNC.

So that means they can't be used in a chain and have the processing active or bypassed, I still think the VSC can (through the BNC), as it suggests so in the manual but can't confirm this.Fudoh wrote:These units all have a dedicated bypass output, but you cannot disable processing on the "processed" outputs. The passthrough is for a local monitor, but what I'm after is being able to bypass the 'master' signal on/off for each unit in the chain. I don't think that chaining the 580 and Emotia would matter but I think I'd want to use the VSC700 as clean or processed.

Re: Extron Emotia / VSC700 / RGB580xi
you can put a 2:1 switch behind the Extron and use the switch there to toggle between the signals. So that means they can't be used in a chain and have the processing active or bypassed
not really since the VSC does his 240p conversion on 480i signals once the DDSP (disable digital sync processing) is enabled.I still think the VSC can (through the BNC), as it suggests so in the manual but can't confirm this.
well, usually the same display cannot show 15 and 31khz show, so most users wouldn't get to much use of a bypass mode on the standard output. The passthrough is for a local monitor, but what I'm after is being able to bypass the 'master' signal on/off for each unit in the chain.
what display do you want to use the 700 on, that can display both signals ?but I think I'd want to use the VSC700 as clean or processed.

I think that's the best optionFudoh wrote:you can put a 2:1 switch behind the Extron and use the switch there to toggle between the signals.
So are you saying that no matter what you throw at the VSC it's going to convert it? I had an idea to run it so that h and v shifts could be done for the signal without and scaling etc...not really since the VSC does his 240p conversion on 480i signals once the DDSP (disable digital sync processing) is enabled.
I'm not sure I'm just trying to figure out how I can use each unit, have no specific idea just doing a bit of recon.what display do you want to use the 700 on, that can display both signals ?
Thanks

I'm struggling to edit this properly on my iPad sorry for the messy last post!

My bad, I meant the RGB interface. So are you saying that no matter what you throw at the VSC it's going to convert it? I had an idea to run it so that h and v shifts could be done for the signal without and scaling etc...
The VSC definitely cannot. The BNC output is strictly 15khz.

Re: Extron Emotia / VSC700 / RGB580xi
That's fine as I wouldn't be using it on anything other than 15khz CRT's, just thought that it would act as a h and v centring device and or a scaler.. I guess though that if you throw 240p or 480i at it it will just output something usable at 15khz? I'm new to this so as I said it's all a bit of recon....Fudoh wrote:My bad, I meant the RGB interface. So are you saying that no matter what you throw at the VSC it's going to convert it? I think the minimum input frequency for the VSC units is 24khz.

Re: Extron Emotia / VSC700 / RGB580xi
Bugger! I guess I need to find a way to bypass it then if I was to use it in a chain; though If I used it on a signal path that never went bellow 24khz at input it wouldn't matter and I can't think that I'd throw 15khz into it anyway.Fudoh wrote:I think the minimum input frequency for the VSC units is 24khz.

It might be of help if you described what you want to do.

Re: Extron Emotia / VSC700 / RGB580xi
Just trying to figure out what these things can be used for...... I think it might be best if I buy them and experiment. Looking at setting up things into a rack in the future with the option to switch things in and out of a chain when needed. Looking at Matrix switchers and multiple screens. So it's just a bit of research right now to see the possible applications of each unit in reference to using it with a matrix and various monitors, hence I just wanted to know if these things ran in a bypass mode which would have made things a bit easier.Fudoh wrote:It might be of help if you described what you want to do.

Re: Extron Emotia / VSC700 / RGB580xi
Thanks for your info so far! Can I ask the bottom row of 5 BNC's on the VSC700 under the input lable are the throughput to a monitor and not a second input? If that's the case it kinda solves the potential problem (I think).Fudoh wrote:My bad, I meant the RGB interface. So are you saying that no matter what you throw at the VSC it's going to convert it? yes, that's the passthrough output. Can I ask the bottom row of 5 BNC's on the VSC700 under the input lable are the throughput to a monitor and not a second input?

Great!!! It looked like a second input.Fudoh wrote:yes, that's the passthrough output. Can I ask the bottom row of 5 BNC's on the VSC700 under the input lable are the throughput to a monitor and not a second input?
