Sony CRT wores

Post by Elbaid »

Hi, first post here.
I have a couple of Trinitron issues...

Firstly, I bought a Trinitron KV-25X1U and the edges/corners are out of focus. I believe there's a focus pot on the flyback transistor? If I remove the case and touch only this pot, is there any danger of electrocution?

Secondly, my PVM 20L2 has some convergence issues at the top left/right corners. How easy is this to fix? I've read different accounts on this issue and I assume not all PVM models have the same internals.

Cheers

I tried to open up and mess with one of mine once, and got a shock. I didn't die, obviously...but it was kinda scary.

If you don't know anything about it, I would TRY to get someone who did to help. I know that's hard to find, in this day and age.

For the X1 I think you will find everything explained in details in the official service manual.

I've adjusted the focus on a few Sonys. Chances are you'll be using a screwdriver to adjust the pot, and won't be touching the knob directly anyway.

I say - take you time, and be as careful a few minutes in as you were in the first few seconds, and you should be fine. Better to take a bit longer and not get complacent and start reaching over to the back to adjust while watching the screen. Work out what the knob(s) do (function and directions), then adjust, check, adjust, check - repeat. You may find that you can get a really sharp image on the edges, OR a really sharp image in the centre, but not both at the same time. In that case just find the highest level of focus that they can each have in equal measure.

I have a couple of Sonys that could probably do with some minor convergence adjustment, but haven't done it. I have PVMs, but the ones that would need it are not PVMs, so I'll leave any advice on that to someone else.
