Seimitsu ls-56 or ls-58?
Hi, I'd like to swap out the Sanwa stick that my 360 fightstick came with and replace it with a joystick more suitable for shmups.
In IRC I got suggestions for either the LS-56 or LS-58 models, and right now I'm leaning towards the LS-56, mainly because it's the only one of those two sold by Focus Attack (which happens to be just one hour away from where I live, so I would probably get it pretty quickly with minimal shipping costs!)
Besides the LS-56 having a slightly stiffer spring, I'm not really sure what's the difference between the 56/58.
Which one, if any, is better for shmups?

is the same
the difference come from spring and is very small - 4me is only cosmetic
buy cheaper

I have two LS-58´s in my New Net City. Very nice sticks, I also bought two LS-56 springs for them, but haven´t tested the springs jet.
I would recommend you to buy octagonal gates, too. Much better control for shmups and everything in my opinion.

This. Get the KOWAL actuator from Focus Attack + a stiffer spring and an octo gate for your JLF instead. IMHO a much nicer stick than the sloppy LS ones. It's cheap and better.kowal wrote:is the same

Been meaning to try that setup emphatic recommended. I think I have a $5 focus attack coupon I’ve been meaning to use up

Re: Seimitsu ls-56 or ls-58?
FA soon will be selling an simple upgrade kit for LS33/55/56/58
it will be cheap and stick will be have very short throw - close to Suzo
This mod will only work in version PCB "-01" but is really minimally invasive
It can be reversed at any time
without any risk or damage
work with all restrictors
It will be able to cut 0,7-1mm or 1,5-2mm
2 option (Of course I would recommend more for shmups)
engagement will be shifted proportionally
with good sales I can create a more advanced version (in future)

Re: Seimitsu ls-56 or ls-58?
@kowal: Im interested. When will you release your kit?
Re: Seimitsu ls-56 or ls-58?
Count me in too! I wanted you to make your completely own brand, kowal, but beggars can't be choosers.Shadolf wrote:@kowal: Im interested. When will you release your kit?
Edit: However, the JLF is a much nicer stick than the Seimitsus IMHO, as I really HATE the dead zone wiggle that even a brand new stick exhibits.

Ok, I'll try just getting the actuator, the octo gate, and the spring empathic mentioned;
This spring, right? http://www.focusattack.com/2lb-tension- ... sanwa-jlf/
And the GT-Y gate, correct? Also should I buy an entire gate or just the insert?
For reference here is the inside of my fightstick: http://i.imgur.com/RbT05bn.jpg

I've been meaning to try a JLF modification that would work well with non-versus fighting games -- mainly shmups, but also beat-em-ups and platformers.
Does this mod also work well with the octo-gate restrictor for the JLF? Like, any problems hitting the diagonals? (sometimes these mods can mess with the diagonals)

Re: Seimitsu ls-56 or ls-58?
Well I decided to go with Emphatic's suggestion and ordered the stuff he mentioned (I got an octo insert instead of a full octo restrictor plate since it appeared I already have a plate built in, and the insert just needs to be swapped).
Hopefully it'll be here soon!

I have that spring you linked to. They are cheap too, so in case you don't like it, you can just switch back to the stock one.cave hermit wrote:Well I decided to go with Emphatic's suggestion and ordered the stuff he mentioned (I got an octo insert instead of a full octo restrictor plate since it appeared I already have a plate built in, and the insert just needs to be swapped).

LS-58 with an LS-56 spring is my stick of choice and I loved the 56!

Re: Seimitsu ls-56 or ls-58?
I love both the 56 and 58 (56 is slightly preferred).
That being said, I'm considering getting a new VLX to explore further options. Any thoughts on the LS-40? LS-38?

Re: Seimitsu ls-56 or ls-58?
VLX can accept all stick, SUZO, with FA converter plate fit Competition, Wico and P360 too.
best option - still suzo STC
or old japan JLW version (with short 27mm shaft) + FA japan s-plate
VLX does not have threads on the 2 holes for the S-plate but this is easily to made

Re: Seimitsu ls-56 or ls-58?
Well apparently I'm too incompetent to do this. Parts are sliding everywhere, I don't know if they're aligned correctly anymore, the new actuator is scuffed up, I may have applied too much pressure trying to force things back in, don't know if the joystick assembly is even aligned properly anymore since I removed it and put it back on in a fit of confusion, etc.
I'm pretty sure I haven't lost any parts though, so I'm going to take my fightstick to my local game store next week and see if they can un-fuck this for me.

Re: Seimitsu ls-56 or ls-58?
Well I couldn't find out what was wrong, so I decided to just take the entire joystick apart and put it back together again. This worked, and I finally put the joystick back together!
The joystick is noticably much tighter now, which is just what I wanted!
Now for the ultimate test: Xiizeal without auto-wiggle.

Re: Seimitsu ls-56 or ls-58?
Maybe just a misalignment? Glad to hear you worked it out.

Re: Seimitsu ls-56 or ls-58?
Well I wasn't confident that I had tightened the e-clip enough, so I tested this theory by playing zangief in street fighter and attempting to constantly do 360 motions on the joystick.
Sure enough after 2 credits the joystick popped.
So I put it back together, and tested again.
This time it popped on the second credit.
Repaired it again.
Still hasn't popped after several credits of Zangief, so hopefully I tightened it enough?

Re: Seimitsu ls-56 or ls-58?
Can anyone here tell me how to change the spring of an LS-58 with an LS-56 spring? I tried, but the LS-56 ones are way bigger than the LS-58 springs. Have I got the wrong springs or what else can I do?
Oh, and @kowal, when will you release your kit???

This mod is bad to fighting games?
How to put this item in Seimitsu LS-56-01?
