NES Rainbow Banding on left side of screen
I turned on my NES in a nearly-pitch-black room, and I noticed vertical rainbow lines on the extreme left side when that part was black. This isn't noticeable unless there's no light except for the TV screen (BVM-20F1U, if that makes a difference). I'm using composite via a front-loader (001), FYI.

Since your using a Bvm, you really ought to consider getting the ol nes modded for RGB. There is so much of a difference between composite and RGB on the nes.
The Nes has bad dot crawl. Its some of the worst ive seen on an old console. Rgb completely gets rid of the dot crawl.
Also the colors look washed out on composite on RGB they are nice and crisp.

As someone who recently got their Famicom modded with an NESRGB kit, I second this.mvsfan wrote:Since your using a Bvm, you really ought to consider getting the ol nes modded for RGB. There is so much of a difference between composite and RGB on the nes.

Re: NES Rainbow Banding on left side of screen
I am assuming you are talking about the 2-3 light like bars that show up on the left side. If so RGB modding it wont fix it, it happens on this system regardless. Reduce the horizontal size in the geometry settings on the BVM until it goes away. Setting the H Size too big makes these show up on the NES. On most monitors you don't notice it but on the 20F1U and PVM-20L5 it becomes very visible if the horizontal size is too high.
I am no longer taking free or paid modding projects, please do not contact me asking for my services. Thanks

Lots of old consoles have weird stuff going on on the edges of the screen, since on normal CRTs it would be cut off.
Regardless, if you're using a BVM with an NES, you owe it to yourself to get an NESRGB setup.
