It's so great seeing stuff like this come out of the woodwork. I think this could lead to some really cool places. Carpenter Brut - Trilogy
I really like the way he blends the more standard 80's synthwave with more modern production - has a Justice vibe on a lot of the tracks, but still very 80's sounding.
Great production too!

Be it thought or je-ne-sais-quoi, but I also find Death more digestible than most (!) metal I've heard since my youth. Even Symbolic, that's produced awfully (again - MOST rock albums from that period seem to be). Two first albums are awesome, too, sophomoric as they are.mvsfan wrote:ive pretty much been listening to the sound of perseverance by death since it came out. awesome technical metal album. chuck schuldiner is missed.
oddly though i dont care for much else death metal. sound of perseverence was thoughtful.
Coroner is another metal band that holds up.
Genre-wise, it has to be said my tolerance to (broadly speaking) punk rock stands greater. No signs of growing out of it.
Just heard Der erste Tag by Lacrimosa on the radio, then the DJ told Stille shall soon turn 20.
Just, wow. I vividly remember listening to it all the time when it was new!

^^^I wasn't even aware they had a new album in the works. I was pretty lukewarm on their last two records upon release but they've really grown on me over time.
I am surprised no one has mentioned the album John Carpenter recently released. Obviously recommended to fans of his film OST's but anyone who likes moody instrumental stuff should check it out.

The beginning reminds me of The Waterfall's intro from Super Castlevania IV.

This may be a lame question. But how do you keep up on metal releases? I don't really have any hookups for metal music other than this forum.

Depends on what you're looking for. I read the Obelisk, Sludgelord, and Stonerobixxx for doom/stoner/sludge stuff and Lastrites and Teeth of the Divine for general metal junk.MOSQUITO FIGHTER wrote:This may be a lame question. Its a remix album, but who the heck cares? I also took part in it with what seems to be the only downtempo remix, but Milieu - PolyPlus is just blowing me away. So many great remixes and the 2 new tracks from Milieu are darn good as well. A primarily Acid/IDM/Downtempo series of albums, just 2, that have been remixed and reshaped into something awesome. The original Polypsilon albums are worth checking out as well.

if that track is any indication (coulda pulled it right from the ST album), it's going to be wicked . I thought LP4 was absolute shit excluding 'bare feast'.Xyga wrote:The new Ratatat is not out yet but it will surely be my favorite for a while this year.

I have been listening to a lot of Metal the last year or two. The old stuff that is.
I quite like Doom Metal and have been listening to the band Trouble a lot:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trouble_%28band%29
I like the older sound that is reminiscent of Sabbath.
Any one have any recommendations for other Doom Metal bands?
I am always listening to Bolt-Thrower and more Hardcore stuff these days.
Cheers,
Minty.

You're sure to be in a fine haze about now, but don't think too hard about all of this. Just go out and kill a few beasts. It's for your own good. You know, it's just what hunters do! You'll get used to it.

Trilogy is absolutely unreal!!! Can I buy a physical copy (CD/Vinyl) somewhere? Google tells me that the Vinyl was a limited release (300 copies) and looks like people are trying to sell it for crazy amounts of money now.... The cheapest one I could find was this :/MOSQUITO FIGHTER wrote:It's so great seeing stuff like this come out of the woodwork. I think this could lead to some really cool places. The only physical album available on his bandcamp is EPIII. The final part of Trilogy. I bet the other ones will get reissued. I know Perturbator is always reissuing albums.

Not new and not an album (though I've read there were actually two full albums released) but I just clicked on that a moment ago and it triggered some nostalgia;

Had completely forgotten about One-T, the funny thing is the comment below "I was listening to this on VIVA" (a German music channel) because I actually did too via satellite, despite the thing being a French production it was maybe more popular abroad.
I'm feelin' old.

Been thoroughly enjoying a semi-nostalgic revisit of Danzigs I-IV today. Such innocent times, when Danny boy was menacing the Bible belt with his dastardly yet hunky Satanic wrestler persona, aided by his sinister acolytes EERIE VON, JOHN CHRIST and CHUCK BISCUITS.
IV has an absorbingly doomy air, III has some irresistible Christ riffs, but II is by far my favourite with the most amount of bluesy bayou hollerin' and club singalong choruses. Glenn's passionate exhortations to fap with abandon on "Devil's Plaything" are a veritable elbow from the top rope to the heart of organised religion.

Boys Life - Departures And Landfalls
Of course Boys Life was before my knowing of the awesome local rock scene, but this is one of my favorite albums of all time. I guess it is Emo Rock, but it sure is noisy and melodic and an awesome album. Going back through this after learning they are going to do a few reunion shows in honor of this getting re-released on vinyl in August of this year. Awesome album.
