Should I keep my Atari ST?

Post by zinger »

Got an Atari ST in order to use maxYMiser synchronized to my MPC, but kind of lost interest in that particular setup for music production. So, what other reasons are there to keep an ST around? Any interesting exclusives in the games domain? I'm getting an Amiga 500 sooner or later, so not interested in games that are on both systems (provided the Amiga versions are better).

Oids and Bolo (nice Breakout-style game), that's about it. You can also play Goldrunner with a joystick, unlike on the Amiga. Apparently, there's also a conversion of Slap Fight for the ST, but I have no idea how good or bad that one is.

Wow, that bad? :(

I read somewhere that the ST version of Defender of the Crown was supposed to be better than the Amiga version, but I have no idea myself.

Super Sprint, EPROM, the original version of Llamatron, Robotron.. those are ones I hear recommended but I never checked some of them out myself.

Here's a list someone put together. I wonder if the ports of Enduro Racer, Metro Cross or Slap Fight are good. And there's an advanced Star Raiders for it too. It's interesting too that some 8-bit games like Ranarama are available for it which aren't on Amiga either!

Damn, the Ranarama port looks dope :)

And IIRC 3d games like the excellent Vroom! or Stunt Car Racer run a little faster on ST.

I have an ST collecting dust in the corner. I think it's time for me to bust it out!

EDIT: Oh! This one is cute too. papanovember brought it to a meet one time. It's a homebrew Mario clone good for some kicks

Great link louis, thanks. Some interesting looking titles on that list for sure. I especially like how Karateka, Matahari and Get Dexter 2 look cool from watching screenshots.

I noticed that Slap Fight is one of those games where you have to choose between music and sfx and none of the videos on Youtube have the music. It's probably not as good as the arcade or MD versions, but the C64 version of Alcon/Slap Fight actually has very nice music.
