"100 Hz TV" (Sony KDL-32R410B)

Post by Obiwanshinobi »

When my WinXP computer's hooked up, v-synced games running on it are capped at 50 fps. OutRun 2006 frameskips, Raiden III slows down, Midnight Club II crashes etc. PC claims the refresh rate to be 60 Hz and I can't seem to set up any other. TV agrees it's 60 Hz, but v-synced games act like it's 50. I'm using a HDMI port because the TV has got no VGA one.
What should I expect when I hook PS3 up? Will everything be 50/25 fps at best? That on a Sony television I'm otherwise pleased with would be weird.
I'm not seeing a 60 Hz option in the TV menus either.

60Hz from a console should be fine. And you probably work around the PC issue using a HDMI EDID minder.

So the computer won't care about TV's whims? Sounds good, thanks. Should anything with at least 2 outputs work?

I would be very surprised if you're actually facing an internal 60->50Hz framerate conversion. PC video cards often react stupidly, especially when connected to TVs through HDMI. Just give it a try with a console. They don't care.

I wonder if PS3 or 360 are even allowed to output 50 Hz HDMI signal (I know PAL PS3's RGB is 50 Hz only, that made me go LCD to begin with).

For video playback possibly. Maybe also for SD or ED output, but once you start a game that actually runs in 720p, you'll get forced 60Hz output.
