Night Raid for Ps1
Night Raid for Ps1
Is this game any good ?
The graphics is pretty bad, gameplay is weird you shoot a huge orb at enemies to bounce off and get combo's. its 6/10 very mediocre at best, its a very bad Giga Wing type of shooter only with getting big combos by successively hitting enemies on screen and then controlling the orb to where the next enemy is, like a richoet. I personally didn't like it

I have this one. The backgrounds are a joke. It reminds me of the video creation mode on mtv music generator for the PS1.
The hug launcher dosen't seem to work very well. Seems like sometimes the hug launcher will continue to hit enemies on the screen and sometimes it won't. I couldn't get more than 20-someting hits going with it despite more enemies being on the screen. It might be interesting to play for score. Since it has negative and positive score range. I'm not so great with scoring systems so it's difficult for me to tell. Anyways medals fall down the screen. If you collect them it adds to the score. If they fall past the ship they add to the negative score. I don't remember how the hug launcher ties into the score system.
Control is a bit off. The ship will continue to move sometimes after you stop which equals unnesessary deaths. It might not do this on the PS1 I don't know. I've just played it on the PS2.
I enjoyed the soundtrack quite alot like I do with most Takumi games.
It does move at 60fps to my knowledge which is quite good for a PS1 shooter. Throws around a fair amount of bullets also.
Still I can't recomend it really. This is not going to be anything more than a short lived diversion for most shmupers. Stick with the goodness of GW1, GW2, and Mars Matrix (my all time favorite). If you like old school shooters Tiger 2 Plus might be interesting. GWG is supposed to be a busted game but I still get a decent kick out of it.
That aside I do enjoy just having a complete Takumi shooter collection for some reason. Which reminds me has anyone played their puzzle game Weather Tales? I've considerd hunting that one down also.

It doesn't. It's something I found out when I did my little research on floaty controls.MOSQUITO FIGHTER wrote:Control is a bit off. The ship will continue to move sometimes after you stop which equals unnesessary deaths. It might not do this on the PS1 I don't know. I've just played it on the PS2.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

It doesn't what? It had off controls and I was playing it on the PS1, original unit.Ghegs wrote:It doesn't. Well, there went that research down the toilet. Rando played it without problems on his JPN PS1, as did I on my PAL PS1 using a bootdisc and both of us got floaty controls on a PS2.Rob wrote:It doesn't what? It had off controls and I was playing it on the PS1, original unit.
Truly bizarre.

Not that good, no...
BUT it does have the best "power-up get" voice sample ever.
"POW-AH!"
Meh, I think it's fun enough as a guilty pleasure once in a great while. I play on a Jp PS2 with a Saturn pad, and have never noticed laggy controls myself, but I just might not have been paying enough attention.

It at least sounds worth checking out, as someone with a modded PS1 who's looking for import PS1 exclusives. Kiken had footage of the first stage in the game up a while back, but, AFIK, it's not around anymore.
That doesn't sound good about the Hug Launcher, though. Sounds like the "dash" attack in Shooter Space Shot; I thought it was neat until I kept slamming into enemies, and, AFIK, you're supposed to be invincible while using it. I have no idea how people get such high scores in that shmup!

I seem to remember a while ago someone saying that the controls were different using the pad and the analog, like one was floaty and the other wasn't.Ghegs wrote:Well, there went that research down the toilet. Feedback will set you free.

Interesting. That may indeed be the case. There were 2 releases, for example, of Arkanoid Returns for the PS1-the first one just had D-Pad support, but the second release added analog support-and the first one doesn't play very well, IMO, with the D-Pad.Acid King wrote:I seem to remember a while ago someone saying that the controls were different using the pad and the analog, like one was floaty and the other wasn't.Ghegs wrote:Well, there went that research down the toilet.
