History
Just a quick greet and post about a Game Jam we have starting in the new year.
Shmuproom Jam on Gamejolt

This could be the first jam of many, but we are going to start with a theme on the origins of the genre.
Think Space Invaders, Galaxian etc.
This is to start us off easy as we consider an attempt at a shmup a month for 2015.
There is a little more information on the jam page.

We are Buko-Studios, we create graphics and games professionally, and we invite anyone with an interest in shmup action games to join along with us on this Jam.
We are personally going to use it as an opportunity for some stress testing of Construct 2's ability to create shmup content.
It would be great to see some competitive examples from other engines such as Game Maker and Stencyl too.

There is some great content and advice already on here, and this will also be a great opportunity to put some of it into practice.

You might also check out our Shmup community over on deviant art, which has all kinds of inspiration on it too.

Post in the comments if there is any interest on this.. or this may well end up being a solo jam. :D
We'd love to see you there.

Happy New Year everyone!

Mission Complete!
The shmup jam closed up with 6 items submitted.

We've put together a little compilation video if anyone is interested in taking a look..

Even better if you can take a trip over to Gamejolt to show some support.

Here's a bit of a closer look at our entry "Space Inferno" we tried to keep things fairly close to the original, although with some unique features from us.

Here is the direct link to play Space Inferno. I'd love you to give it a shot.
I'm thinking you guys should be able to attain unbeatable scores on the leaderboards! ^_^

We will continue now through Feb with ShmupJam 02.
We go forward a few years which gives us scrolling backgrounds and the advent of Laser Disc!

Please forgive the bump/update of our shmupjam.
This is a great forum and resource and any help to inspire people would be awesome.

We would also love some more playtesting on our own games, if anyone has some time to check them out.

Updated first post with compilation images of all games so far.
Its great to see that people are taking part.
Seemingly not a shred of interest from here yet tho.. :D

Its quite a surprise to me that we are actually doing this.. 4 games down, 5th one has been started.. 7 more to do after that. :O

We are in talks at the moment as to what (if any) value these prototypes have.
Certainly we are learning with each one.
Will we be able to justify any further development on them or see if people care enough to see further development?

The comments on Gamejolt are fairly pleasant so far..

Look out for our next game AirBlaze. Celebrating the best of the 16-bit era shmups. It'll be inspired by AirBuster/Aeroblasters.

We would love to see more mid to high level indies taking part to attract more gamer attention.
It doesn't need to be a new product, any shmup development you have going on this year is welcome.

If you are working on/developing your own shmups throughout this year. Please get in touch.
We are using the shmup jam to promote ourselves, but we have no problem promoting any other shmup development going on along side it.
But try to make it easy for us to showcase your work.
We are doing updates every 2-3 weeks currently.

We hope to package the whole jam up in some form of expose towards the end of the year.
It would be great to feature some of the higher level games as part of this.

Cheers,
