ARCADE WORLDS COLLIDE AS BANDAI NAMCO ENTERTAINMENT EUROPE LAUNCHES GALAGA: TEKKEN 20TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION MOBILE GAME
Special Commemorative Game Celebrates 20 Years of TEKKEN with Unexpected Crossover Action
Paris, FRANCE – April 30, 2015 – BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Europe today announced the worldwide release of Galaga: TEKKEN 20TH Anniversary Edition mobile game from its BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Inc. Tokyo, Japan headquarters. The new crossover game is available now from the App Store and Google Play™ as a free download for iOS and Android powered mobile devices. This over-the-top crossover game celebrates the 20th anniversary of BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment’s famed TEKKEN fighting game franchise by combining its characters with the gameplay of Galaga; one of the company’s most well-known classic arcade games.
“TEKKEN is one of our longest running franchises and has enjoyed a strong fan following for two decades,” said Katsuhiro Harada, Game Director and Chief Producer of the TEKKEN series at BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Inc. “With Galaga: TEKKEN 20TH Anniversary Edition, we wanted to give our fans something unexpected to celebrate such a huge milestone for TEKKEN. The crossover gameplay is sure to surprise and delight both TEKKEN and Galaga fans.”
Galaga: TEKKEN 20TH Anniversary Edition brings together the classic arcade gameplay of Galaga with the added twist of TEKKEN characters entering the battle as the spaceships battling enemy aliens. The game will also allow players to use TEKKEN’s famed “Tag” mechanic to call upon an additional character to the game board and double the damage players can deal against enemies. Lastly as an added surprise, special attacks featuring other classic BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment game characters can also be used to destroy multiple enemies at once in visually spectacular ways.
Galaga: TEKKEN 20TH Anniversary Edition is available for free download now on both the App Store and Google Play™.
I wish we could get something of a Galaga Remix, which would take concepts & assets from Gaplus, Galaga, Galaxian, 88', Arrangement, & Legions then combine them into one game or a set of modes.
Either way, iOS definitely needs a true Galaga app. You can't change the screen orientation in the Namco Museum & options are limited. The Anniversary app is too fugly & cheap looking to spend any time with & this Tekken thing is just a rush job probably meant to raise brand awareness before Tekken 7 hits the streets.
I would gladly pay premium for a real Galaga on iOS, even if it's just a set of emulations.
Finally, a Galaga spin-off outside Japan (before that there was another Galaga spin-off based on the anime series Space Dandy but of course it was for Japan only)! And for Android too instead of being another iOS exclusive.
It's best on a tablet, & even on an iPad it's easy for your fingers to slip onto the 'Move' slider & screw you. I have to place my finger over my fighter to play half decent, & even then it gets rough when approaching the edges of the screen.
I still played for abit. Using the girl with the rapid shot is best, when you liberate one to double your shots you become nigh unstoppable.
I screwed around once playing it, then on the second start I got through the 100th wave before it just ends. Never died, or even got close to dying. Galaga is great and this is a nice twist but it's just far far too easy.
just got past round 100 as well
its pretty easy but its really nice to play around with, the sprites are cute and it should please both galaga and tekken fans

Space Galaga 'international' has seen release for iOS within the last week. It's pretty dire, but I spent a couple hours with it nonetheless.
