DREAMCAST + TORO + BVM D

Post by Sir Arthur ahf »

Hello guys,

I have a Dreamcast with the typical VGA adapter.

I got recently a BVM D. As it doesn't have VGA, I have 2 option in order to connect the Dreamcast

An Extron RGB in order to change the VGA to BCN and the other option is to get a Toro dual video box

I would prefer the Toro option as it doesn't need a another PSU, but not sure if the video quality of both options are the same

Any recommendation please?

Thanx!

you could also run it on a dreamcast scart cable with a scart to bnc adapter.

Ive had my dreamcast on a scart cable for a long time it looks great.

I have a Hanzo and it is awesome. I would be willing to bet the Toro is fantastic as well.

I also just got the same monitor and I have a toro vga box coming in the mail for my DC. Honestly the difference between the toro and hooking it up to an extron via vga would probably be negligible. Especially if they are going into the same monitor and both outputting the same resolution *not 100% if you can get 480p on SCART*.

You can send 480p via SCART no problem (with the Toro I mean), but a BVM isn't going to be able to display it of course.

The BVM D can output 480p

I would get the TORO. I have it, and I am outputting 480p with composite sync enabled via the VGA port. It is quite versatile. You could use a single VGA -> BNC cable with it and pair it with RGBs or RGBHV - whatever your display uses.

Emotia is total overkill then, why would you want it? Scanlines for 480p games? Not every game needs them or looks good with them and there is a scanline generator in the Toro anyway.

I'm pretty sure he meant to say Extron RGB interface (just to go HD15 RGBHV to BNC RGBs) instead of Emotia.

How much does one of those things run? You can tell the TORO to output RGBs over VGA. Composite Sync goes to the H-Sync pin. Just plug in the appropriate BNC wire (typically grey, I think) from a VGA to BNC cable into the CSync port and you are good to go.
