trap15 Arrange Thread

Post by trap15 »

Didn't want to necrobump the Ketsui Arrange thread, and I figured this'd be a good idea to just centralize the announcements/postings/discussion.

Two new arranges have been released as of today.

Same!Same!Same! NEW VER! (Updated: 2015/03/27)

Ketsui Arrange 1.7 (Updated: 2015/03/27)

Please everybody enjoy, and don't sue me (´・ω・`)

In one short catch phrase: It makes it not dumb.

Longer explanation: weapon switches no longer torment the player, powerups stay around much longer, no speed items, better difficulty scaling, redone item distribution, some other small things.

Any significant changes for Ketsui compared to previous arranges?

Fixes some bugs, changes some numbers and factors, removes the suicide bullets, changes color from blue to red, and probably some other small changes.

Can't get the samenew patcher to work. samesame.zip matches with latest MAME fine but the SHA1s are all wrong when the patcher's done with the files and the game says error 10 in MAME.

Ketarr17 however works beautifully. Green/purple Tiger Schwert FTW.

What a nice effort from someone who admits to hate Cave, and more particularly Ketsui.

Yup, I failed it. Fixed version of the patcher is up now.

I redid the instruction text on both releases, I think it should be more straightforward now.

I can testify that Ketsui Trap Label (sorry trap, I just can't pass up the opportunity to call it that ) is pretty genius with the manually adjustable rank.

I haven't tried out Same! Same! Same! New version yet, but I'll give it a shot, and see if it changes up the Same Old Same Old Same Old gameplay a bit :)

Ordered some 27C160 chips so I can try out the Ketsui Arrange.

One feature I'd love to see would be level select by DIP switches, which would make it easier to practice the later levels on real hardware. I noticed that only dip 1 is used (test menu) while 2-8 are free.

Thanks again!

Thanks for sharing your hard work trap15. I'm really looking forward to playing the new Same!Same!Same!. You're right that game is ball-crushingly difficult. What did you do to re-balance the weapons (get rid of the green :P )?

Weapons are all the same, but I made it so you pretty much don't need to dodge powerups anymore since they float away very quickly now instead of staying around forever. You'll just have to try it ;)

Re: Metal Slug 2 Turbo, "You also agree that this ROM will not be included in any emulator builds or assembled ROM sets."

I just need a little clarification: does this mean.. we aren't allowed to emulate it or list it in the emulator? Or do you mean we shouldn't bundle it with an emulator?

thanks and sorry for the stupid question :) Don't want to step on any toes..
best regards,

dink: it means no bundling with an emulator, and no bundling with the rest of the rom set for distribution. If you're using it on your own, it's fine.

Hypnos: 1P set. I'll note that on the page, as I've had some others ask this as well.

Nice one for the metal slug 2 fix trap, it's finally enjoyable without overclock.

Yeah, getting "rom error 9," whatever that means. Could only get it to boot in UME in linux (sdlume from archlinux AUR), via commandline, and mameuifx in Windows. Both versions 0.159. The others I tried were Mameplus 0.159 and Shmupmame 4.2 (both windows, didn't try either from commandline). Any ideas?

Redownload the patcher and make sure you have the latest ROM set (with the names ending in .8j etc instead of .bin). Somewhere along the line after Shmupmame v4.2 the set's been changed.

I checked the rom names, already, actually (It won't even work with files that aren't named o17_09.8j and o17_10.8l). Will redownload the patcher, though, just in case.

EDIT: SOLVED! :D Must have had the old patcher. looking forward to playing! Shame about the sound in mame, tho :(

An old version of the patcher would give that error when booted. As said, make sure you've got the latest.

Just to confirm it was intended: you removed that (second to last dipswitch toogle) autobomb feature on Ketsui Arrange 1.7, didn't you?
