Longer explanation: weapon switches no longer torment the player, powerups stay around much longer, no speed items, better difficulty scaling, redone item distribution, some other small things.
Can't get the samenew patcher to work. samesame.zip matches with latest MAME fine but the SHA1s are all wrong when the patcher's done with the files and the game says error 10 in MAME.
Ketarr17 however works beautifully. Green/purple Tiger Schwert FTW.

Yup, I failed it. Fixed version of the patcher is up now.
I redid the instruction text on both releases, I think it should be more straightforward now.
I can testify that Ketsui Trap Label (sorry trap, I just can't pass up the opportunity to call it that ) is pretty genius with the manually adjustable rank.
I haven't tried out Same! Same! Same! New version yet, but I'll give it a shot, and see if it changes up the Same Old Same Old Same Old gameplay a bit
Ordered some 27C160 chips so I can try out the Ketsui Arrange.
One feature I'd love to see would be level select by DIP switches, which would make it easier to practice the later levels on real hardware. I noticed that only dip 1 is used (test menu) while 2-8 are free.
Thanks for sharing your hard work trap15. I'm really looking forward to playing the new Same!Same!Same!. You're right that game is ball-crushingly difficult. What did you do to re-balance the weapons (get rid of the green )?
Weapons are all the same, but I made it so you pretty much don't need to dodge powerups anymore since they float away very quickly now instead of staying around forever. You'll just have to try it
Re: Metal Slug 2 Turbo, "You also agree that this ROM will not be included in any emulator builds or assembled ROM sets."
I just need a little clarification: does this mean.. we aren't allowed to emulate it or list it in the emulator? Or do you mean we shouldn't bundle it with an emulator?
thanks and sorry for the stupid question Don't want to step on any toes..
best regards,

Yeah, getting "rom error 9," whatever that means. Could only get it to boot in UME in linux (sdlume from archlinux AUR), via commandline, and mameuifx in Windows. Both versions 0.159. The others I tried were Mameplus 0.159 and Shmupmame 4.2 (both windows, didn't try either from commandline). Any ideas?
Redownload the patcher and make sure you have the latest ROM set (with the names ending in .8j etc instead of .bin). Somewhere along the line after Shmupmame v4.2 the set's been changed.

I checked the rom names, already, actually (It won't even work with files that aren't named o17_09.8j and o17_10.8l). Will redownload the patcher, though, just in case.
EDIT: SOLVED! Must have had the old patcher. looking forward to playing! Shame about the sound in mame, tho
