NG:DEV.TEAM announce Kraut Buster
Re: NG:DEV.TEAM announce Kraut Buster
If you want to support the real thing instead of a janky plagiarization, Metal Slug 3 was released on PS3/PS4/Vita today. It's cross-play, so if you buy one version you get them all.
Re: NG:DEV.TEAM announce Kraut Buster
That's the worst Metal Slug though. It contains all the worst excesses of drawn out stages, bullet sponge enemies and so on.
I really just want someone to fix Metal Slug 2 slowdown and release that.

M2 already did it for the Neo-Geo Station release. And it's always been the case that no one can agree on which Slug is the best - I favor MS6, though 3 is my second favorite.system11 wrote:I really just want someone to fix Metal Slug 2 slowdown and release that.
Re: NG:DEV.TEAM announce Kraut Buster
Or you can overclock the CPU in MAME to something like 200% and poof! all slowdowns gone.system11 wrote:I really just want someone to fix Metal Slug 2 slowdown and release that.
But yeah... emulator.

Huh? Last I checked 6, 7 and Advance were mediocre as hell. I thought 3 was pretty well loved by most.system11 wrote:That's the worst Metal Slug though.

Once an Internet hate wagon starts rolling, it's all downhill from there. The more people jump on the harder it is to stop. Just stay at the peak where a fun game will arrive & let em' crash.Specineff wrote:You guys just don't understand.
Every NGDEV game has been pretty good so far. I especially like Gunlord & Last Hope, both built on the backs of classic titles. Will be getting KB if a Dreamcast version arrives.

Re: NG:DEV.TEAM announce Kraut Buster
Why can't NG:Dev team just port their games to commercially relevant platforms? I'm pretty sure the people who pay big bucks for these games on the Neo Geo would still do so anyway if, say, steam ports were available.
I do recall a failed kickstarter for a wii u port of gunlord, but surely steam would be easier to get onto? I mean there's pretty much no quality control on indie publishing there anymore.

Re: NG:DEV.TEAM announce Kraut Buster
Probably because they can make a shit ton more shelling out Neo Geo carts for the price of arcade cabinets.

Re: NG:DEV.TEAM announce Kraut Buster
Yeah, there are craptons of downloadable average-good 'new retro' games around, would NG:DEV and WaterMelon games get as much attention without the physical cart/box releases ?
On Steam or whatever platform people would just say "meh I'll get it when it's $1".

Re: NG:DEV.TEAM announce Kraut Buster
They are called Neo Geo Development Team, they make games for Neo Geo & then release affordable Dreamcast ports for those who can't afford a Neo Geo or it's typically, universally expensive carts. Doesn't everyone on this forum use CRT & retro consoles? Instead of Steam just buy the game you want & emulate it if not. DC emulation is pretty good for their titles.

So, 8BA, how much are they paying you?

But then, isn't everyone except Nintendo themselves doing poorly on the WiiU?cave hermit wrote:I do recall a failed kickstarter for a wii u port of gunlord
Re: NG:DEV.TEAM announce Kraut Buster
NG:DEV doesn't want to release their games on PC, because they think it would invite tons of piracy while bringing the perceived dollar value of said games completely crashing down. And they're probably correct; they've built up the image of an exclusive premium brand that they have a right to protect for as long as SNKP holds off on the C&D hammer.
If they ever consider another downloadable console/handheld port, it'll only happen if enough people pony up the cash on Kickstarter beforehand, as well. NG tried it with Gunlord, it didn't get the funding they asked for, they dropped it and moved on.

It's my favorite, personally. Only problem I have with it are the zombies.
Turning down the difficulty does make it a more fun game, since it really does seem designed to munch your quarters.
Anyway, the sprite work in this looks below NG:DEV.TEAM's standards. I'm surprised.

Metal Slug 3 is the best side scrolling game since Mario 3. Yeah, it's probably too long. But it's got so many great levels. I think really put some love into that one. Yeah, the vert shooter section sucks, so what. Everything else is so good.

Re: NG:DEV.TEAM announce Kraut Buster
Metal Slug 3 to me is a great route based game that still has some nice random/improvisation elements. You have to follow an extremely strict route and have a plan for everything to get through stages, but there's a modicum of flexibility and improv throughout. It's a good game if you enjoy extreme planning but don't like things to be completely static.

I'm not a huge fan of MS3, but I don't dislike it either. I haven't played in awhile but I remember being aggravated by the status change effects. I also remember feeling that it was mind-numbing by the end.
I have the Anthology for Wii so I think I'll be giving it a complete playthrough in order this week.
I guess I'll pick up a copy of 7 since I'm getting that new 3DSXL soon. I hear they're only $200.

Re: NG:DEV.TEAM announce Kraut Buster
Dreamcast games are not nearly as pirated as PC games. Compare the number of PC owners to Dreamcast owners. And yeah, yadda yadda PC emulation, but it's really only well-established Dreamcast nerds who are willing to put up with that.Jeneki wrote:Dude. Re: NG:DEV.TEAM announce Kraut Buster
You can just burn a Dreamcast game to a cd & pop it in the console.

Also, NG has managed to hold back the .isos of their DC releases from being distributed on most of the popular rom sites.Pretas wrote:Compare the number of PC owners to Dreamcast owners.

Re: NG:DEV.TEAM announce Kraut Buster
PC indie titles are so affordable now these days. no reason to pirate them unless you are REALLY poor. compare that to a 50$ DC print. I'm pretty sure more people will choose to pirate the DC games...
