There must be something I'm missing because I'm having a hard time trying to figure how I let 30k points fly by to reach the number one spot. Anyway, anther one of those shmups I overlooked for way too long. Great game!

Sensato Kurai - 1,316,040 - Hydra - Genesis/MD

Impressive score for starting on Hydra. Since both top scores are Saturn scores, I think it the Saturn version has differences and is not comparable to the MD version. I am pretty sure it's impossible on the Mega Drive to get such a score, especially when you're starting on Hydra which makes you lose quite some points. But you're still doing astoundingly well considering that you can't destroy a lot of enemies in stage 2 which appear behind the fire walls. You would need the wave weapon to destroy them, but you don't get it until the middle of stage 2 when starting with Hydra. That's why starting on Haides is better: you can get (almost) all points available (even as stage 1), get all weapons + shield and thus put yourself in the best possible situation from stage 2 on. Haides is a little harder as stage 1, but after some practice it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

However, it seems I have to take a look at your video since you beat my score even under these circumstances. Try Haides for the first stage and push your score further!

I didn't want to mention it but also feel that way about the Saturn version scores. I wanted to give it a try to see if I can reach a higher score, but I started playing something else.

I was aware that starting on Haides would give me a higher score but I wanted to stick to my original route. I got that score from a friendly competition which took place here: http://ccjvq.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t= ... sc&start=0.

After watching the video for my friend's high score, I learned about the starting at Haides thing. I then decided that I would try to beat him by keeping my original plan. I'm still pretty close to destroying everything in Gorgon even though I star on Hydra.

I absolutely agree that Haides is your First Attack. You obtain all weapons, shield and can clear all enemies in the level with good milking on the cannons in the beginning that fire the bubbles at you. What's funny is, Haides has ALWAYS been my First Attack from day one back in the winter of 90' when I first played the game....the track for this level "Truth" was AMAZING. Just the way it started out with heavy,bassy drum beats produced by the Yamaha sound processor on the Mega Drive.....
